Hear me out
What if elf ears worked like puppy ears where when theyâre young theyâre kinda floppy and bend over and then they get fully pointy when theyâre grown up a bit more
Poor awkward middleschooler age elves walking around like this
HI I HEARD THERE WERE ELF EAR HEADCANONS??
Allow me to add:
Baby elves have such long floppy ears that special hats are needed to keep them warm. This means every young elf has to listen to their parents coo over their baby pictures with their significant other. âOh, just look at those big floppy ears! You know, she used to chew on them?â
There is a rumor going around elf middle school that your ears only go up after youâve gotten your first kiss.
Elf parents are able to detect bad days at school easily. Eg. âHow was school, sweetheart?â âFine, dad.â âOh no it wasnât - your ears are droopy.â
Elf parents also threaten their children that if they get dirty one more time, they will be hung out to dry by their ears.
Elf parents also insist thatâs how you get stiff ears anyway. It builds character.
Elf children are notorious for yanking the ears of other children.
A common colloquialism for an elf who is either a terrible parent or does not like children is, âTheyâd trip on a babyâs ears.â
The floppiness also comes with an irresistible softness, like how baby skin is softer than normal skin.
Much like the word âbabyâ to humans, âsoft-earâ in elvish can be both insult and term of endearment.
I love that I can always tell which cat has hopped up into the bed in the middle of the night based on whether or not I am licked.
twelve favorite drarry fic reccers
these are some of the lovely folks who have introduced me to fics that broke my heart, took me on vast emotional journeys, and made me laugh my butt off. each of these reccers have different ways of presenting insightful (and often humorous) commentary, pointing out all the best bits of fic, and reminding me of all the lovely reasons Iâm in this fandom. hereâs a shout out and a thank you to these brilliant recâcers! please thank your faves in the comments too <3Â
@sitp-recs - Witty, thoughtful, and oh-so-carefully worded, each of Livâs recs brings out the best in the fics described. Each time I see a new post, itâs a must-read! Liv creates such a kind and affirming environment that feels so special. Her themed weeks have left me utterly weak, going back to the masterlists over and over whenever I need a new suggestion.
@eat-yearn-cry - From when I saw the first four masterlists floating around to the absolutely fantastic posts now, I feel so lucky we get eat-yearn-cryâs suggestions! Each of her recs is brilliant and informed, hilarious and sometimes sarcastic, and so clearly her. Itâs an absolute joy to hear these thoughts, it always sends me straight to whatever fic sheâs poured her heart out about.
@dewitty1 - Dewitty has such excellent taste in fics, and always picks the best excerpts to share to get my interest piqued. I love seeing her masterlists across my dash and getting to see both fics iâve read and loved and ones I know I must check out based on her opinion.
@thedrarrylibrarian - The ex-library worker and lover of organizing in me absolutely swoons at this blog full of gorgeously-tagged posts. I can see how much work is put into curating an excellent repository of fic, and gosh do I love it! Iâm so looking forward to more of the Happy Hour series.
@drarryspecificrecs - Truly, I do not know how this blog manages everything, from fest recaps to daily recs, to answering endless questions and searching for fics. I remain in awe daily at the amount of excellent and beautifully organized content this incredible blog shares with us.
@dragontamerdame - Though I know Ash is no longer doing recs (and looking at their art, I cannot complain, what a beautiful application of their skill!) I still find myself revisiting some of their old lists because they are so well put together and so detailed, each one feels unbelievably comprehensive.
@dictacontrion - Iâve been a fan of Dictaâs writing almost as long as Iâve read drarry fic, and I came onto tumblr this year to find a vast trove of daily excerpts and longer fic rec masterposts. Â Each and every rec is truly a treasure!
@hogwartsfirebolt - I absolutely adore HogwartsFireboltâs Netfics rec list, not only because it features some of my favorite fics, but what a brilliant way of sharing the fic love? While the taste in fics alone is impeccable, I loved the way this is put together â I wish I could open up Netfics rn and dive into some of these shared faves!
@onbeinganangel - Not only does Marion share her beautiful embroidery with us, but she has chosen to use it to recommend fics! From the soft cotton of her What We Do In the Shadows rec to the threads of the others, they always make me run straight to ao3, and the fic recs are never amiss.
@zeziliazink - Zezilia's âfandom classicsâ series, part 1 and part 2, genuinely feel like penguin classics I could pull right off the shelf, plus theyâre full of utterly stellar drarry fics! I love how Zezilia has applied an excellent definition of âclassicâ here and I wish I had a shelf full of fics like this.
@rockmarina - Iâve found myself cackling over Rockmarinaâs meme fic recs on more than one occasion, enjoying them for both the funny and the intensely dramatic fics. They immediately make me want to open ao3 because they are always, without fail, an absolute joy.
@queercore-curriculumâ - Iâm not sure if Queercore would be considered a fic reccer, but each time I see one of the gorgeous, gorgeous binds on my dash, I have two overwhelming thoughts: 1) oh my god, wow, look at that (and that, and that, and that, as I scroll through each stunning image) and 2) I must read this fic right away if someone has spent so much time binding it. We are so lucky to get to see Queercoreâs craft!
Harry: Do you take constructive criticism?
Draco: Not without crying
I've made a new character - a magical stone golem capable of thinking, and he's currently learning emotions! He was made to take care of the house and the children, and loves books for kids. In the books, he read a lot about the charming and heroic figures called paladins! And now he may aspire to become one too. What do you think about him?
I love him. I made a similar character named Aurelia of the Nightstone, who was a construct made of marble and positive/divine/radiant energy who would bleed gold and take on a greco roman statue with kintsugi like appearance.

Of course thatâs the direction I went. You could make something like Maxwell here.

The great thing about Warforged is they can be any sort of creator inspired interpretation, and all fulfill a great independent purpose as created beings. Theyâre in that twilight of life and created form that makes them ideal for plenty of imaginations.
being in your early twenties is like [grocery shopping alone] [having instant noodles for dinner] [remembering random details about that one friend you haven't spoken to in five years] [feeling overwhelming guilt for every purchase that isn't strictly "necessary"] [having midday naps] [finding out through facebook that the girl who was mean to you in high school has a husband and a baby] [falling a little in love with every stranger on public transport] [pretending you're not afraid of being alone] [wondering when you'll feel like a fully realized person] [listening to bands you liked in middle school] [blinking and it's suddenly december] [failing to imagine yourself ten years from now] [feeling like you're running out of time]
STILL ON PATROL
I learned something new and horrifying today which is⌠that⌠no submarine is ever considered âlostâ âŚÂ there is apparently a tradition in the U.S. Navy that no submarine is ever lost. Those that go to sea and do not return are considered to be âstill on patrol.â
?????
There is a monument about this along a canal near here its⌠the worst thing I have ever seen. it says âSTILL ON PATROLâ in huge letters and then goes on to specify exactly how many WWII submarine ghosts are STILL OUT THERE, ON PATROL (it is almost 2000 WWII submarine ghosts, ftr). Here is the text from it:
âU.S. Navy Submarines paid heavily for their success in WWII. A total of 374 officers and 3131 men are still on board these 52 U.S. submarines still on patrol.â
THANKS A LOT, U.S. NAVY, FOR HAVING THIS TOTALLY NORMAL AND NOT AT ALL HORRIFYING TRADITION, AND TELLING ALL OF US ABOUT IT. THANKS. THANK YOU
anyway now my mother and I cannot stop saying STILL ON PATROL to each other in ominous tones of voice
Thereâs definitely something ominous about thatâthe implication that, one day, they will return from patrol.
Actually, itâs rather sweet. I donât know if this is common across the board, but my dadâs friend is a radio op for subs launched off the east coast, and he always is excited for Christmas, because they go through the list of SoP subs and hail them, wishing them a merry Christmas and telling them theyâre remembered.
Imagine a country whose seamen never die, and whose submarines canât be destroyedâŚbecause no ones sure if they exist or not.
No but imagine. Itâs Christmas. A black, rotting corridor in a forgotten submarine. The sound of dripping water echoes coldly through the hull. You canât see very far down the corridor but then, a man appears, heâs running, in a panic, but his footsteps make no noise. The spectral seaman dashes around the corner and slips through a rusty wall. He finds himself at the back of a crowd of his cadaverous crew-mates. They part to let him through. He feels the weight of their hollow gaze as he reaches the coms station. Even after all these years a sickly green light glistens in the dark. The captainâs skeleton lays a sharp hand on his shoulder and nods at him encouragingly, the light sliding over the bones of his skull. The ghost of the seaman steadies himself and slips his fingers into the dials of the radio, possessing it. It wails and screeches. A bombardment of static. And then silence. The deathly crew mates look at each other with worry, with sadness; could this be the year where there is no voice in the dark? No memory of home? The phantasm of the sailor pushes his hand deeper into the workings of the radio, the signal clears, and then a strong voice, distant with the static but warm and kind, echoes from the darkness; âMerry Christmas boys, weâre all thinking of you here at home, have a good one.â A sepulchral tear wafts itâs way down the seamanâs face. The bony captain embraces him. The crew grin through rotten jaws, laughing silently in their joy. They havenât forgotten us. They havenât forgotten.
I am completely on board with this. Itâs not horrifying, itâs heartwarming.
Personal story time: whenever I go to Field Museumâs Egypt exhibit, I stop by the plaque at the entrance to the underground rooms. It has an English translation of a prayer to feed the dead, and a list of all the names they know of the mummies on display there. I always recite the prayer and read aloud the list of names. They wanted to live forever, to always have their souls fed and their names spoken. How would they feel about being behind glass, among strangers? Every little thing you can do to give respect for the dead is warranted.
I love the idea of lost subs still being on patrol. Though if you really want something ominous, let me say that the superstitious part of me wonders: why are they still on patrol? If they havenât been found, do they not consider their mission completed? What is it out there that they are protecting us from?
@boromir-queries-sean
Thereâs been something in the water since we first learned to float on it. Not marine life, although thereâs more of that than weâll ever know. Not rocks and currents and sand bars and icebergs either, although theyâve all taken more than their share of human life.
But something deeper. Something Other. Something not natural.
Sailors have always been superstitious.
Not one of them described it right.
You donât hear about it so much now that we donât lose ships anymore, really, not like we did at the height of the sea trade when barely an inch of ocean floor didnât bear some wreck or other. And better ships and GPS and weather satellites have all played their part in that.
But we have protection now that we didnât before. They donât interfere with war and battle, even on behalf of what used to be their country, or with rocks and weather and human stupidity. Those are concerns for the living.
But the Other Things, the Things that shouldnât be there - They canât get to us now without a fight. Itâs a fight They havenât won in a very long time.
As long as we remember them, as long as we call out to them - not very often, just once a year will do - they will keep protecting us from the Things that go bump in the deep.
More than fifty submarines, Still On Patrol.
Hello! ... Um @monster-bait said you were a bread making champ! Rock on! I made my first loaf today, it kinda crashed but I'm still excited bc I learned a lot today alone! I was wondering though if it would be alright to ask for any pointers for like. Basic beginner knows next to nothing ... If not no worries you can ignore this! I just wanted to ask bc I'm just excited to learn about something so simple but still so much fun ya know? Have a nice day/night!
Iâd absolutely love to help you, Anon, but I need to know a lot more about what kind of bread you were making and how it crashed and failed? If you want to just message me directly we can chat about it. Otherwise send me another ask with info about the recipe (what kind of bread, what kind of pan were you baking it in, and what temperature, how long did you let it rise for) and what went wrong?
Itâs been a lot of hours and also Iâve had coffee so Iâve had time to think of recommendations.Â
(Full disclosure, this first picture is actually a sourdough bread. Itâs from a starter I got started last year before it was cool (/hipster voice) named Bob.)Â
What Iâd encourage is actually watching some breadmaking videos. Thereâs a lot of things you have to learn to do by eye and by feel, and thereâs no good way to describe some of them by text.Â
My favorite bread is a no-knead cottage loaf. It takes a dutch oven to make it, but it comes out crusty and beautiful every time. @thebibliosphereâ has a great post about making a peasant loaf with next to no kitchen supplies, and no dutch oven, and I love the way she explains everything. Her pictures and gifs make a huge difference in comprehension, I think.Â
I love this favorite white bread recipe, but I only ever make half-recipe versions. For a single loaf instead of the double loaf this recipe makes, youâll need 1 0.25 oz packet of yeast (or 2.25 tsp), 6Tbsp + 1 1/3 c. water, 2 Tbsp sugar, ½ Tbsp salt, 1 ½ Tbsp butter, 4 ½ - 5 c. flour, and then 1 ½ Tbsp of butter (again, but this is for on top). Â
Other beginner-beginner tips;
Read the recipe carefully. Read it again. Then start baking.Â
There are two types of yeast; instant yeast and active dry yeast. Which type you use matters.Â
Set timers for rising & proving times so you donât over-prove your bread. You can save it from that, but itâs a pain in the butt and the bread just isnât as good.Â
Bread can be as fussy or as simple as you want it to be, but basic white breads are the beginnerâs breads. Once youâve mastered those you can start looking at whole wheats or fancier grains.Â
Get to know your oven. Mine requires me to set the thermostat about 10 degrees hotter than called for to get it right. I also need to push the bread to the back left. Yours is going to need different things.Â
Know how hot your kitchen runs. Youâll find the best spot for proving as you experiment, but you want somewhere warm (not hot! just warm!) to let the dough sit and rise. In winter I often use the oven (while off!) with the oven light on as proving box.Â
Once your bread is baked it probably wonât last long (I challenge you to not cut into a hot, fresh loaf of bread and eat half of it immediately), but DO make yourself let it cool for at least 30 minutes to let it finish cooking, and then store it wrapped in a kitchen towel, cut side down for best storage.Â
I really like King Arthur Baking Companyâs recipes; theyâre reliable and they have staff who will help you troubleshoot, plus itâs an employee owned company, and their ingredients are top quality, so if you need specialty ingredients they are a great source.Â
If this is somehow not something that answered your questions, or you want more info, please do feel free to message me. <3Â
I love bread but Iâm gluten intolerant đ
There are about 5,000 more gluten free bread recipes than there were even 5 years ago, so Iâd actually encourage you to go looking for those. A couple people I really care about have Celiac so Iâve had to learn a bit about the substitutions you make and the level of care you have to put into scrubbing every bowl and utensil for them.Â
Potato Bread, for example, is a bread which is frequently gluten free and combines two of my loves (potatoes and bread.) If you want to buy it always check the labels, because it does require flour and wheat is the easiest flour to throw in, but a gluten free flour (From King Arthur or Bobâs Red Mill) is a simple sub if youâre making it at home. Check this recipe out (Serious Eats is a good source, and I usually like their recipes) Â
If youâre relatively novice Iâd actually suggest starting with some gluten free box mixes (Like this one from Bobâs Red Mill) because learning what gluten free doughs and batters should look like compared to their wheat/gluten based counterparts is is a different skillset.Â
Basically, even if you canât eat gluten, thereâs a lot of good alternatives available these days, and I hope you are able to try making some bread. <3Â

Few notes
-While not specifically noted the sword in the first pic seems like a longsword.
Ff you are interested in learning how to use a longsword check out these few links.
And the position is very similar to that of Joachim Meyerâs Zornhut(Wrathguard)
â The Wrathful Guard is known as such since the stance has a wrathful bearing, as will be shown. Stand with your left foot forward, hold your sword out from your right shoulder, so that the blade hangs behind you to threaten forward strikes, and mark this well, that all strikes out from the Guard of the Ox can be intercepted from the Wrathful stance, indeed leading from this stance shows unequal bearing from which One can entice onward, whereupon one can move quickly against the other as needed, as is shown by the Figure in illustration E (on the left). â
- If you want to learn more about how to use a rapier check out all the videos in Martin Fabians great video series on rapier fencing as well as Rapierists group on facebook and the Wiktenauer section on rapiers and the rapier tag on this blog.
Also one may argue about her stance with the rapier but itâs basically a third guard according to Salvator Fabris (and would fit such definition in a variety of sword systems that have overlap with his nomenculture).
-Obviously the image above was a cool omage to the Disney film Mulan but if anyone does want to look into chinese historical martial arts I suggest checking

NOBODY TOUCH ME
For context: This is a 9-year-old named Aubrey who was going to get to see Hamilton on Broadway and tweeted about being sad she wouldnât get to now bc of covid. So Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, who are doing a youtube show rn about nice things happening in the world rn, got her on zoom, told her theyâd fly her out to see it once everything reopens, and then got Lin on the stream since Emily was in Mary Poppins with her.
And then this happened.
This would be my happy place.
