just saw the new Superman and yknow what I keep thinking about?.. when he’s fighting Luthor’s diversion in Metropolis, Clark is making every effort to isolate it to a relatively open space (the park). damages are at a minimum. but that takes time, it’s not efficient enough, so then the corporate-funded Justice Gang shows up - and oops, suddenly buildings are being swept off their foundations, civilians in direct line of fire, the city core is getting ripped apart. he’s scrambling to save children, squirrels, people caught in the red zone while the others are more interested in punching the big monster. the story makes it absolutely clear that corporations don’t care about life or harm reduction, and in a world in which superheroes are already normalized, this kindness is what sets Superman apart

Also new Andor episode was insane it blows my mind every single episode the way they depict the empire to be brutal and terrifying it felt like it could be real prison. Also LOVE that they broached the subject of prison labor which is essentially slave labor, and how the environment these men are placed in ( maddening stark white , unrelenting humiliation and degradation) coupled with mindless, repetitive work drives people insane (ex.the man at the end who killed himself). These people were all likely brought in for minor offenses or in Cassian’s case, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It all just screams being a front to have a cheap workforce with numbers that only grow as the Empires fascist regime cracks down harder. UGH I LOVE THIS SHOW. Peak Star Wars content I hope we see more of going forward.

Reframing it in the view of the context of those events–not just the destruction of the Death Star, but that those are the events that will be the culmination of Cassian’s journey, that everything of this series is about driving him towards that point, the mission to get the Death Star plans is the one that will take Cassian’s life, that he’ll die on Scarif, but he will have helped deliver hope to the galaxy. It’s not just about Cassian’s death, it’s more than “he has five years left to live”, it’s about a countdown to him fulfilling something that will help save the galaxy, that without the knowledge those plans give the Rebellion, Luke very well may not have been able to blow up the Death Star and the Rebellion may well have died that day, too. It’s not just Cassian’s death countdown, not just the destruction of the Death Star’s countdown, but the countdown for everything that Cassian will do in this series, everything that he will be called upon to achieve, the countdown to the most important, galaxy-saving thing he will do with this life. Cassian may lose his life in the same year of the Battle Before Yavin, but he will also reach the culmination of everything he is setting out to do.  The Rebellion will live on because of so many people who helped get them there and Cassian Andor is one of them and we have five years to see that journey play out, to see how the ties between Cassian and the Rebellion become inextricably entwined.

you know what i liked most about those first 3 episodes of Andor? it all felt real and relatable. the world? you could feel the mud on their boots and smell the thick air of the planets. you could feel the worn letter of the workers’ gloves. the rust on the vehicles. the maddening sounds of metal hitting metal. 

that’s the world of star wars that i could watch for days and storytelling at its finest for me
