The Ramsey family knew that Christmas was never going to be the same after JonBenet’s body was found, murdered, in the basement of their home on December 26th, 1996. 1997 brought a year of heart-breaking firsts for the once happy family. One of the most dreaded was that first Christmas without JonBenet. It had been JonBenet’s favorite holiday; how could they celebrate without her? During December of that year, as the anniversary of the death drew near, her family released a statement to the public.
A Christmas Message from the Ramsey Family
With the Christmas season upon us and the anniversary of JonBenet’s death approaching, we are filled with many emotions. We, as a family, miss JonBenet’s presence among us as we see the lights, hear the music, and recall celebrations of Christmases past. We miss her every day - not just today.
On the one hand, we feel like Christmas should be canceled. Where is there joy? Our Christmas is forever tainted with the tragedy of her death. And yet the message rings clear. Had there been no birth of Christ, there would be no hope of eternal life, and, hence, no hope of ever being with our loved ones again.
As the day of the birth of our Lord and Savior approaches, we thank all across the nation and around the world for your continued prayers of concern and support. It is those prayers that sustain us. We ask that as you gather with your families and loved ones this Christmas, be joyful in the celebration of the birthday of Christ, knowing that this is truly the reason for the season. We must continue to celebrate the birth of Christ … for our hope of life together ever after.
Thank you for all you meant to her and mean to us. With blessing and prayer for a Joyful Holiday and the Grace of God’s ever present love for the New Year,

I felt now was a good time for the memes-of-the-year recap:
Ugandan Knuckles was this year?
Aw, no Torture Dance? I saw it everywhere.
NO GANGSTAR? BULLSHIT.
Oh, hey, hey, hey. It’s alright. Charlie, you’re alright, now. You… are Paimon. One of the eight kings of Hell. We have looked to the northwest and called you in. We’ve collected your first female body and give you now this healthy male host. We reject the trinity and pray devoutly to you, Great Paimon. Give us your knowledge of all secret things, bring us honor, wealth, and good familiars. Bind all men to our will as we have bound ourselves for now and ever to yours. Hail, Paimon! 2018′s Halloween, October Read! ‘The Birth of the American Horror Film’
Just picked up this book for some old-timey spooky vibes this Halloween. Haven’t read much of it yet, but I’m loving it so far. Kind of envious really. I’ve been lucky enough to publish on horror before, but for my own standalone book this is 100% what I would like to have done, but alas, the means aren’t there.
Even just flicking through, some of the old posters, postcards and magazine illustrations as pictures above are so cool to see. As much as I love Jonathan Rigby’s American Gothic, Euro Gothic, etc, I’ve been dying for a book that focuses strictly on horror films before the concept of feature films even solidified. I’ve heard about a lot of the films already, but there’s even more that I’ve never heard of.
This isn’t a review (as I haven’t finished the book yet), but if you’re interested you can pick it up here. [Affiliate link, every click helps the blog out :)]
