Successfully creating a website doesn’t conclude there. A website has to be handled by SEO, SEM, and social media simultaneously, be monitored recurrently to check its status of relevancy in the competitive market, and modifications be applied to sustain the flux of engagement and traffic it needs. I have learned that SEO and SEM works harmoniously in assisting a website and they underpin how it will run smoothly.

DEVELOPING YOUR PAGE

Honestly, this entire pandemic phase is exhausting, both in mind and body. Comparing how going home was my most awaited time of the day before, now home has sometimes become my place of discomfort too. With most of our outdoor businesses synching with our personal spaces, distinction between work and rest can be quite hard now to distinguish.

One year has passed and even though how much I wanted for this pandemic to end, the situation is beyond my control and the least thing I can do for now is to adapt. For that one long year, I was able to find new things to allot my time to and somehow enjoy but mostly, it is the same routine that I get to do the first time I wake up until the sun sets. When I don’t have classes or any academic loads to do, I am usually on my phone entertaining myself with videos, playing games, catching up with news updates, reading political discourses online, or just simply scrolling on my social accounts to pass time. However, this routine frequently consumes my time for productivity and I sometimes find myself in a toxic environment when I’m on social media thus, I just keep myself busy by doing therapeutic activities like cleaning my room, watering the plants, exercising, playing with pets, having a good time with my family when everyone is free, reading some of my unfinished books, drawing, listening to music, recording songs when in mood, and watching movies. Aside from these, I am also able to keep myself busy and earn at the same time by manually typing stories at home.

This entire pandemic is a tedious phase. A lot has happened and changed. Indeed, to look at the brighter side of life this time is a real challenge. Many things have been sacrificed, missed, wasted, and lost. Nevertheless, we all struggle to save our own boats and survive until the waves pacified.

ENGAGING YOUR AUDIENCE

As a newbie digital publisher, one must follow proper gauges and apply them fitting to the nature of your content and one good example of this is by blogging.

First, letting sources know about your content, including them in the updates and ask if they could possibly share it would actually be beneficial. Once I write and post my travel story, I will let them know that their significance in our trip made it to my blog and try asking them if they possibly share it. In this way, the effort of spreading the content multiplies as my sources’ extended friends perchance can see it.

Travel blogs isn’t something new so, the challenge here is how you will get people read yours among others. If I have read similar travel contents as mine, it would be useful for me to link their work to the same topic I have covered. It would also be a great opportunity to promote my blog while also taking into consideration the right approach wherein the other authors won’t feel like I disregarded their work subsequent to my advertising. In this way, it would broaden my avenue and easily cater my target market of readers.

On the other hand, one of the most popular ways of content promotion is through social media whereas today, aside from websites, blogs are commonly shared and read on Facebook and Twitter. By doing so, it is important to consider not to overly share the content anywhere online instead promote the writeups concisely – most preferably in a group with similar interests in travelling – and fitting to the format of a certain platform – while utilizing hashtags, keywords, and patent buttons for trouble-free sharing and accessing experiences.

Above all, it is significant to avail potential gauges like monitoring the day and hour when most online users are active to weigh up the ideal time to share my blogs, might as well keeping track of the success measurements based on the audience metrics.

According to Mr. Cayabyab, journalists are no longer just ‘journalists’ today, instead they should now embrace the need to be ‘multi-platform journalists.’ Irrespective of whether you work as a TV reporter, radio reporter, or even in the print media, bringing your smartphone with you and doing extra efforts are significantly crucial. Aside from extending all the possible means to deliver news and receive information, conversely media has also been the primary source for fake news hence, imparting truth and maintaining credibility are real challenges today.

Correspondingly, since audiences are now more on lean-forward experience, communicating the story alone is no longer effective therefore, it is important to start serving it directly to their tables. Utilizing other new media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are consequential to reach more audience and induce dynamic engagement.

In 2020, a man was caught sleeping through the game at Super Bowl. Super Bowl features the championship game of the National Football League taking place every year and showcasing famed artists to perform in the arena. Averagely, the ticket to grant you access to the event costs $8,649.00 or roughly ₱420,064.00 converted in PH peso. Based on the popularity of the event and the expense it will cost you just to secure a seat, the man became viral due to sleeping on his privilege to actually attend the game and it was even dubbed as the ‘most expensive nap’ ever. Upon the publication of his video, it has attracted differing reactions from people online.

With reference to the previous reading material about building a more engaged audience, it says there, ‘Be precise, personal in identifying and contacting potential readers,’ therefore one should know who are the prospective audience of her/his content and where to find this kind of audience. RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM

A good story can never substitute your life.

The encounter happened last February 24, 2021, along the Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, just outside the Ever Gotesco mall. Based on reports, the shooting incident occurred between the PNP and PDEA in a blundered buy-bust operation. During the shootouts until the situation subsided, Gary De Leon of News 5 was recording the incident using his cellphone while doing background reports.

Crime beat is one of the crucial types of reporting in journalism. They commonly involve blood and gore, violence, and shocking value that are potent to divert attentions and therefore be controversial. While crime reports may potentially generate more views and engagement from audiences, it is also important, most especially for us communication students, to be conversant with how these type of stories are being covered by crime beat reporters.

Journalists have one of their foot in the grave, no matter what type of beat they are assigned to cover. Truth is one of the elements of journalism and public service is a journalist’s pledged obligation to people. SOCIAL LISTENING

DIY or Do It Yourself trend began materializing back in year 90s and although it is in fact no longer a novel idea, it is notable how the trend has becoming more prolific these days through different forms of new media like Pinterest, Facebook, and YouTube. The videos I watched consisted of distinct topics; the dress up themes, DIY tools and stuff, popular software applications, and innovative decorations. Upon watching, it can be observed that not only they are diverting to watch but, some can actually be instrumental in some sense. Like for example, the DIY projector, table lamp, and speakers; these things can practically cost you thousands of money to be bought from stores however, with the help of such creative videos that are available online, then you can build yourself any of these using cheap materials you already have in your home. The fact that DIY videos are popular among Filipinos, it typifies our preference on good buys and bargains rather than to spend on things with similar use.

Not only DIY videos are trending among Filipinos but, also vlogs with aesthetic contents. Personally, I am also engrossed with decoration-themed videos and I liked the bedroom makeover vlog of Elle Uy. As a Generation Z kid myself and one of the main consumers of social media, apparently young adults today are becoming more interested in contents that are not only pragmatic but also have quality of beauty and aesthetics.

DIGITAL PUBLSHING TRENDS

With the global pandemic almost crippling our capacities, people are now instead leveraging the use of technology in different aspects of giving news and information, promotion of literature, elevate societal consciousness, and other business affairs. As someone grew in the age of advanced technology, I can relate to variety of trends I encounter online. Like how I’m being spoon-fed with news by just scrolling online or by turning on the notifications of my trusted sources to receive daily information. Might as well the offerings and messages I receive in my email when I show interests in online courses of different e-learning websites.

With all of the overwhelming trends mentioned, I think the one that Filipinos would preferably choose are the digital reading materials. For young Filipinos, including me, published readings with incorporated visual and audio elements really pique interests since they add extra enjoyment in the reading experience. Although the one that uses QR code to provide further information is something new to me, I think I would find it helpful as I don’t want readings swamped by so many details instead, it lets me personally decide on whether I need or won’t need more information.

WHY GO DIGITAL?

In a quick pacing world, with all the advancements and technology, conventional ways are dwindling, simultaneously being replaced by digital means. Why should we go digital? Today, going digital is no longer considered as alternative but, rather deemed as the mere resort to stay modish and relevant in most industries. Nevertheless, digital world offers a variety of advantages to publishing groups – be it a freelancer, a small time publishing house or huge publishing institutions – with more prospect to gain and less to no cost of money. Through internet, creation, production, and publication of works have now made easier, more convenient, and efficient by just exploring the new media.

As someone acquaint with internet and technology, I’m in favor of going digital. Not only it helps save money from laborious and costly creation, production, distribution, and promotion of your work but, more significantly it provides you plenty of platforms to utilize, to engage with, and to generate wider network of connections anywhere in the world. Technically, it’s not only the publishing people who enjoy benefits of digital publishing but, might as well consumers who have already opted the online mode. Given that the pandemic today has taken a toll on our daily life, doing tasks requiring physical exposure can hardly be done so, instead of going to libraries or bookstores to search for books, through digital publishing, consumers like me can instead look for websites selling printed or non-printed books.

SPOTIFY

Aside from social media sites which are the commonplace for digital publications – most especially the ones that are created to be viewed or read – more contents can also be published through digital streaming spaces like Spotify to cater more listening audiences might as well artists and creators anywhere, anytime, for free. Apart from the varieties of music it offers, it is also commendable how they are able to give platform to programs that are not only entertaining but, educational as well. Within the 27-minute podcast of ‘The YTL (Yung Totoo Lang),’ I was able to enjoy the soothing listening experience and simultaneously learn from relevant issues like love scams that I know and can relate to. This type of podcast is different among others as it intends to advocate on media literacy, fake news and to give awareness by extending essential advices.

Will it sell? Personally, yes but, since majority of the listeners are young to young adults, I think it is important to supplement the informative content with entertainment factor by considering if the topic will be of interest to the listeners, its relevance and timeliness value. Do I think this is an effective medium? Yes. Spotify offers conveniency by just listening while being able to multitask, accessibility wherein subscriptions are not necessarily required, and availability to any type of devices. Spreading and receiving of sensible contents in which people just have to listen in order to learn and be informed – unlike videos and reading materials – are few of things that make Spotify and other digital streaming spaces with the same design be it 0effective tools.
