There is a lot to explore when you are on YouTube, by typing any keywords of your choice you will find a lot of videos. Whether it is about makeup, lifestyle, cooking, or fashion, YouTube will have it for you. It is like a google but the YouTube's set-up is more on videos instead of texts and images. YouTube is like a wonderland for vloggers and influencers to showcase their talents in persuading the people to watch their videos. There are a lot of aspiring influencers that take their talent to YouTube to share their knowledge about a certain topic and of course to earn money.

With a lot of videos that you can see on YouTube, there is one that standouts for the Filipino viewers. D-I-Y or do-it-yourself videos are the most famous and most viewed videos on YouTube, but why is it so popular among the viewers? For me, D-I-Y videos are popular because creativity is everywhere, with D-I-Y you are able to to learn it and do it yourself. It is time and money saving because you don't need to have somebody else to do it for you. You can actually watch it for free and do it also for free. The Filipinos like these kinds of videos because I believe that we are creative people and we all love arts and also we are passionate about crafting and D-I-Y-ing different things that we can see in our house.

JOURNTALKS: DIGITAL PUBLISHING AND MOBILE JOURNALISM

According to Mr. Cayabyab, journalists are no longer just ‘journalists’ today, instead they should now embrace the need to be ‘multi-platform journalists.’ Irrespective of whether you work as a TV reporter, radio reporter, or even in the print media, bringing your smartphone with you and doing extra efforts are significantly crucial. Aside from extending all the possible means to deliver news and receive information, conversely media has also been the primary source for fake news hence, imparting truth and maintaining credibility are real challenges today.

Correspondingly, since audiences are now more on lean-forward experience, communicating the story alone is no longer effective therefore, it is important to start serving it directly to their tables. Utilizing other new media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are consequential to reach more audience and induce dynamic engagement.

Ultimately, regardless of all these complications, hard works, and challenges that media people may grapple with, there’s only one thing that they probably share why they are still choosing to stay in this industry – and that is the passion for what they do. “It is a journalist’s job to deliver news and information to people; it is a pledged obligation, no matter if your story gained views or not.” – Mr. Zhander Cayabyab.

RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM

A good story can never substitute your life.

The encounter happened last February 24, 2021, along the Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, just outside the Ever Gotesco mall. Based on reports, the shooting incident occurred between the PNP and PDEA in a blundered buy-bust operation. During the shootouts until the situation subsided, Gary De Leon of News 5 was recording the incident using his cellphone while doing background reports.

Crime beat is one of the crucial types of reporting in journalism. They commonly involve blood and gore, violence, and shocking value that are potent to divert attentions and therefore be controversial. While crime reports may potentially generate more views and engagement from audiences, it is also important, most especially for us communication students, to be conversant with how these type of stories are being covered by crime beat reporters.

Journalists have one of their foot in the grave, no matter what type of beat they are assigned to cover. Truth is one of the elements of journalism and public service is a journalist’s pledged obligation to people. But again, a good story can never substitute a life therefore, always be on guard when doing a coverage.

Engaging Your Audience

If I would be a vlogger or influencer these tips would be helpful because it can be a way to subtle introduce my content or story to different audience. For a beginner, these tips would be helpful and useful because it will serve as guide on how to make the story appealing to the audience. Letting the source know about your work is effective way to engage them because they will be intrigue about how you use the knowledge or information, they shared to you. Also, they can give more genuine feedback which will be helpful for your future works.

“Be precise, personal in identifying and contacting potential readers”, this means that a target reader will be more effective in engaging them than sending the article all over the place. Having a specific audience in mind can attract their interest more and you can earn their loyalty. In addition, this way the readers will feel more connected to the author or publisher.

Social Listening

The content of each video is different from each other and earn many viewers because of its content. One of the reasons is that they are able to display their creativity in their video. Although their content or concept might be common but they made it interesting by adding their creativity. Also, through their video they are able to help the viewers gather new ideas. The DIY videos are helpful because they are able to teach the viewers by watching and made the procedure easy so that it will be easy to follow.

Aside from their content, they are able to deliver it well and the music they used are not distracting. Another reason why their videos are popular is because it is relatable. Also, the videos are short and well organize, because if they made long, it will be boring for the viewers unless their content is new or unique. In addition, the way that they deliver their video is helpful to attract attention because they do it like their just having casual conversation and it will make the viewers feel connected with the vlogger.

Digital Publishing Trends

Since the pandemic our activities were done online and it result to increase in demand for mobile devices and internet. We are now expose to the digital world. They are used for online classes, meetings, and business transaction. Digital publishing allows us to have an effective publication of our literary works and it is cost-effective than printing them on paper.  Here are some digital publishing trends; People want information delivered to them, the rise of mobile devices, interactive content is a necessity, readers will influence content more than ever, audio becomes even more popular, google news takes the lead, and collaborations to meet digital publishing demands.

It is efficient when news or information are delivered to you because you do not need to search for them and you will be updated on the latest news, however if all information is delivered to you, it may take a lot space on your devices. I also subscribe on some news channel and I get email or text messages of the latest news and I can read them anytime. The rise of the of the mobile devices, cellphone or laptop are necessary for online activities thus the innovation of technology will continue in to meet the demand of the public. Interactive content and audio content, these two will be more popular because if the contents are audio, it will be more engaging and if it is interactive, they can ask questions to the author and get accurate information.

Pandemic was unexpected, no one sees this coming. When I look outside, the fears and anxiety are waving at me. The country around us and the city around us is a lockdown, I can’t even explain the feeling of being in an isolated area. The first week of the lockdown I entertain myself, I made a new routine but then again it wasn’t enough. The anxiety still there and I don’t know how to manage it because I can’t go outside to hang out with my friends and to distract myself.

Living under the Covid-19 pandemic isn’t easy. This pandemic affects my emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual health which makes me worry about all things. No one knows when will this going to end. I can say that this pandemic changes our lives. Little did I know there is still hope in this crisis. The online class was also frustrating and exhausting, looking at your laptop from 7:30 am to 2:20 am is exhausting, I can’t even explain how tired I am even I am just sitting and listening.

A year passed and I know that step by step I am proud to say that I found my ways to deal with pressure. Looking at the bright side, this lockdown allowed me to learn new things just like baking. Also, I spend more time with my family and I realized that this pandemic made us stronger together. I realized that even we are isolated I know that I am not alone. No matter how scared I am some people remind me that everything will be okay.

Lastly, kindness is highly underrated. This pandemic taught us that we are one despite our culture, religion, customs, social class, and ethnicity. At a very young age, we learn that it’s better to give than to receive an attitude. Today, kindness is contagious, when people experience a generous kindness, they also treat other with kindness or in other word domino effect. We need to become generous people because it’s the right thing to do.

                                     How is your ECQ journey?

Although some are ready to venture out again, others are happy to stay in and communicate with the outside world solely via their phone. While some are worried about the virus, some are more concerned about the impending crisis. "There is no easy way out," that I recently realized during this pandemic. People may wonder if they can stay within their house for a long time, especially if you're used to being with friends and taking a trip with them. However, over time, I became accustomed to staying inside our house, specifically my room, without wandering anywhere for my protection.

At first, I was having difficulty adjusting, but thanks to the group I stan, "Bangtan Sonyeondan," I found a way to cope up.  Their music, shows and updates are what keep me alive throughout the ECQ journey.

The sleeping pattern is one of the things that has adjusted. Since I am no longer required to wake up at 6 a.m., I began waking up later and later. As a result, I ended up eating lunch, dinner and going to bed at least two hours later than average, and sometimes I do not even sleep because of movies and series that I watched.  I last went out with some friends two days before the quarantine began and now I’m not in the mood to go out just yet, it is more fun to enjoy random YouTube videos and TV shows related to BTS rather than going out.
