Loki Season One Opinion - *Spoilers*
Art is meant to be consumed and appreciated and criticized. This is known. Characters can become such personal beings to the consumers whether it be because people see themselves in the character, or they simply find some comfort in the character. This is also known and even beautiful.
My issue lies solely in the fact that many people feel a sense of ownership in a character and even find themselves becoming clouded to who the character is as written.
Personally, I feel that the season one of Loki was written marvelously. The team had a purpose and a story that they wanted to accomplish and they accomplished it. Simple as that. This story was always meant to be a journey to "self love" for our main character (of course, on top of everything else). Bottom line, 2012 Loki was forced to take a deeper look into his recent/"future" actions and his character to the true core of his being. This Loki was also forced to take a look at many different versions of himself and quite literally got an outside look of his own flaws. The clarity and knowledge and acceptance of himself grows throughout each episode and we are clearly able to see it.
As for the Sylvie storyline....
Beautiful. I know, not popular, but what this series did in the sake of being fully transparent on Loki to the core, is show a physical demonstration on how Loki has always been his own enemy within the MCU. Loki has continuously self sabotaged, stabbed others in the back, and has almost always played for his own side.
Sylvie is the mirror image to Loki of all of his worst qualities. She has all of these qualities, yet Loki is able to accept/understand those and see her to her core. Literal self love. On the nose, but hey that's art for you sometimes!
In the final episode, we see the famous "because you cannot trust and I cannot be trusted." Loki is self aware at this point and understanding of their own individual and similar flaws. He gets the classic heroes growth while Sylvie falls into their shared flaw of playing for her own team. Their blossoming relationship is pushed aside because again, Loki is his own worst enemy.
Anyway, these are my thoughts simply being jotted down. I am not editing this because frankly, I do not want to. I just want to sign this off with:
Please understand that Loki is a flawed character. When being well written, there will always be questionable decisions.
Understand that teams of writers work hard to ensure that a character is being fulfilled properly.
Understand that the narrative you create for a character in your mind, might just not be canonically correct.
