Controversial art topics: AI fan art

There is a trend going around for quite some time where people will essentially draw fan art of AI images in a way to "take back" the art. It is my opinion that this glorifies the AI image. I don't think we should pay any AI generated image any mind. Ignoring them to that degree is acceptable.

I'm not saying "ignore the fact that they exist." But you're not taking it back. The image was already generated from theft. You're not doing anything but glorifying the image that was created and bringing attention to it. Because what do people do when they see your fan art of that image? They are going to look for the original generated image. It is bringing traction and views to the theft.

AI should never be used for any part of your art process whether it be inspiration or reference. Let's not give prompters anymore attention.

I finished this commission the other day and one of my friends had the audacity to ask what AI generator I used. They were serious.

Just a heads up for anyone with a DeviantArt, they have now made everyone automatically "opted in" for their art to be used for AI art. You have to go into the settings of every piece you've ever posted and opt out for each individual piece if you don't want your art to be used as "inspiration for" AI art. Additionally, users can now create AI art by inputting random DeviantArt users' usernames as prompts. Today might be a good day to opt out (or delete your account entirely, as I did).
