Tithing Or Spirit-Led Giving

Many people argue that tithing is not relevant under the new covenant as we are no longer required to be governed by the Old Testament law. According to those who hold to this view all that matters under the New Covenant is Spirit-led giving.  What does the bible really teach?

 A SPIRIT-LED LIFE

 The New Testament talks not only about Spirit-led giving but about a completely Spirit-led life. And we know that when we are Spirit-led we will not be doing anything against what the Bible says and against God’s will. The Spirit of God always leads us to do that which God says – what the Bible already says and what He presently wants us to do in our everyday life; and what He tells us for our everyday life will never be against the written word.

So, essentially the Spirit of God will never lead us to lie, steal, dishonor our parents, ill treat people, lust with our eyes etc.. I think that is easy to understand. And, we understand that because we know well what the Bible says. So, similarly, the Spirit of God is never going to lead us to give less than the tithe, which God clearly states, in the book of Malachi, belongs to Him. The Spirit of God can ask us to give more or equal but never less because then He would be going against God’s word!

The argument on whether we should obey and follow only the written Word of God (Scripture) or traditions that have been handed down also has been going on between the Protestants and Catholics (and probably other traditional churches) for a long while. The Protestants would say only the scriptures , the ‘written word’, and the Catholics would say, ‘traditions also’ as the Bible refers to oral traditions also having to be followed besides the scriptures. But what does the Bible really say? Does the Bible say that scripture, the written word is our only authority or does it say something about following traditions also? Is it bible or tradition or both?

What Does It Profit A Man If He Gains The Whole World But Loses His Soul?

Most of us do not give careful thought to our lives. We just live day-day, month-month and year-year, rarely even asking ourselves, ‘What am I living for’? ‘What is the purpose of my life’? We work so hard to make our lives secure that we hardly even think of the reason for our lives. We live as though we would spend an eternity on this earth. The span of our lives is 70 or 80 years (maybe much lesser!!). And what after that? Have you considered the fact that you have a soul? Certain decisions you make while you are still alive will determine the fate of your soul?When you die your body goes to the grave but your soul lives on to receive an eternal reward – heaven or an eternal punishment – hell.

Friend, what does it profit you if you gain the whole world and lose your soul? What does it profit you if you gain a lot of wealth, riches and property but lose your soul in the end? What does it profit if you gain name and fame and a very high social status but lose your soul in hell? What does it profit you if all the people around you are happy with you and all of them praise you but lose your soul? What does it profit you if you are very satisfied with your life and everyone around is satisfied with your life and you are very happy with what you’ve achieved but lose your soul in the end? What does it profit you if after you die people remember you and speak wonderful things about you and make a wonderful tombstone for you but you lose your soul in hell?

You may be so preoccupied with satisfying the needs of your body and the needs of your everyday life that you’ve neglected the deeper aspect of your soul. Life is so fast paced that you may never get time to really consider this issue. And when you do get time you feel you would rather not think of such things. Is it wise to put off such an important issue for another day????? You say, “I’m too young now, I’ll think of that when I’m closer to the grave. When I’m sixty or seventy I’ll give it a careful thought.” What if you do not live till then? How sure are you that you will live another day? Wehave a glorious future to look ahead to with God if we make the right choices.

Dealing With Loneliness

We all look for someone to really love us, for someone to accept us as we are, to understand us, to care for us. No matter how much some of us may deny it, deep inside that's what we all long for – love, acceptance, understanding, care. But very often it just remains a dream, a desire. And in a world with seven billion people you find yourself alone and lonely.

No one seems to have the time for you. No one seems to notice you. People just pass you by as though you do not exist. Sometimes even the closest people – your parents, your husband / wife, your children – are so busy with everyday life and work that they seem to be ignoring you. And you have this question in your heart, 'Do they really love me, do they really care?' May be you've walked such a lonely journey through this life that life itself seems uninteresting to you.

Sometimes the people you trust most betray you and let you down. Every side you turn to you experience rejection and a lack of acceptance and you wonder, 'What's wrong with me? What wrong have I done?' You do not know whom to turn to and it makes you feel very lonely, miserable and even depressed.

DON'T BE DISCOURAGED.
