hotaru certainly was not expecting him to activate his own transformation do casually . her mind thinks fast as the surge of power && energy from the change overwhelms the room , sending desks && chairs flying out of place . a hand raises , expelling force from the tips of her fingers , creating a crackling bubble which shields her . as the activity dies down , hotaru lowers her palm , shield dissolving to nothingness . alarm && surprise && confusion race through her , making her heart race . but there was no mistaking it …
❛ … helios-sama ? ❜ incredulous is her tone , eyes blinking quickly as though that may help her make sense of the priest sprawled on the floor before her . the truth of the matter was - he was definitely helios , the priest of elysion , the very same who had helped them to defeat the dead moon circus .
well . this certainly complicated things .
❛ heiwano-san … you’re … helios-sama ? ❜
Helios scrambled to his feet. The change in honorific did not slip past him, and he needed to address that immediately.
“Such formality is not necessary, Tomoe-san. Helios-san is fine,” he said with his trademark gentle smile. “I assume you are Sailor Saturn?”
It was liberating to say her true title at last, now he was sure it was her. He had felt more than seen her magical shield -- quite an impressive feat, considering she was not transformed.
He could sense she was still in a bit of shock and confusion, so he decided to try and lighten the mood. “I didn’t expect the transformation phrase to be so... Touchy,” he admitted. “I also wasn’t aware that I had the ability to rearrange furniture.”
Okay, maybe now was not the best time to be cracking jokes. Helios awkwardly coughed and brushed imaginary dust off of his robe before making eye contact with her again. “Anyway, I suppose the answer to your question is yes and no. I am Heiwano Yuuki, the reincarnation of Helios, Priest of Elysion... Or something to that effect. I’m afraid I don’t know much about how this all works.”
the anxiety rising in him is almost palpable , but only a twinge of pity stirs in hotaru’s heart . if there was any weight to her suspicions , then this was about far more than either her or heiwano . especially if chibiusa were to be involved .
gaze drifts to his hand , watching the way his fingers tease && fiddle with … a stone ? its crimson surface reflects the window’s light just enough to give the young girl the impression it may be a crystal of some sort . ❛ so you think they are things you’re remembering . why me though ? and why chibiusa-chan ? ❜
her head tilts , attention refusing to shift from his palm && its contents . ❛ heiwano-san , what is that you’re playing with ? ❜
“I wouldn’t be asking you if I could answer that question... I can’t say why I felt it was you two, I just knew.” He sighed. “I’m sorry I can’t be of any more help, Tomoe-san.”
Yuuki abruptly stopped fidgeting in surprise -- ‘How does she always know what to say to give me heart attacks?’ -- and removed his hand from the red gem. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you how I got this thing...”
Something in her gaze urged him to go on, though, so he sucked in a shaky breath and recounted the tale. “I was walking home the other day, and I kid you not, there was an alicorn standing in an alley. It called itself Pegasus, ironically. It gave me this pendant and ordered me to say this ridiculous phrase... I think it was something like Elysion Powers... No, it was Elysion Prayers Make Up --”
A bright flash of sunlight later, Helios fell out of his chair and onto the floor in his priestly garb, the nearby desks all askew from the burst of energy.
It took about three seconds of awkward silence before he blushed beet red in embarrassment (a new record for him). “Well, now you see what happened.”

seconds pass , && she is silent , seemingly processing the information . violent hues , normally warm in their brightness , darken ; a coldness settling into her gaze .
❛ you know , i’ve always been the kind of person to believe that dreams are special . ❜ her attention does not appear to be on yuuki - she sees through him , gaze averting to the classroom window . it is difficult to formulate her thoughts in ways that will not reveal herself in the process . && she mustn’t frighten him , though she can feel saturn’s power just beneath her skin . ❛ they’re like eyes . windows to the souls and things like that . some dreams are just thoughts we don’t have time for during the day , or desires we haven’t realised yet . but others … others are more than that . sometimes they’re memories . sometimes they tell us what’s to come . ❜
young maiden . there is only one who has ever called chibiusa that . slowly , her eyes drift , returning to yuuki’s form as the possibility plays through her mind . impossible . wasn’t he supposed to have returned to elysion ?
❛ … heiwano-san , if you had to choose one of those , which kind of dreams do you think you’ve been having ? ❜
Yuuki’s blood ran cold when her expression changed. ‘This was a terrible idea, I never should have told anyone, I’m going to die --’
Then, she started explaining different kinds of dreams. He felt his terror slowly dissipate, but an uneasy feeling remained. Hotaru was holding back, he could tell. He appreciated her attempt to not scare or overwhelm him... That ship had already sailed, though.
He felt completely and utterly exposed in her scrutinizing gaze. Did he see a spark of recognition in those violet eyes? Unfortunately, the little glimpse into her thinking process vanished as quickly as it appeared.
“Hmmm...” He paused to consider her question, twiddling the pendant between his fingers as a way to relieve some of his anxiety. “I believe they’re memories from the past. They just seem incredibly nostalgic, somehow... I don’t think any of the other types you mentioned fit as well.”
Yuuki did not expect to run into a pegasus in an alleyway on his way home.
Well, on second thought, maybe that was not the right classification. The magnificent creature had a horn and wings, so technically it would be called an alicorn, unisus, or pegacorn. “Pegasus” was the first thing that popped into his mind when he saw it, though...
Regardless, it seemed to stare right into the depths of his soul. Did it know him somehow? Yuuki vaguely recalled a white winged horse from the odd dreams he had experienced in recent days.
‘Yes, I do know you. I am your loyal steed, Pegasus. I have been searching for you, Master Helios. I am glad to see you are in good health.’
He nearly fainted in shock.
Pegasus was not one to waste time -- while Yuuki had a small existential crisis, the gem on the horse’s forehead lit up. A pendant with a teardrop-shaped gem materialized around the young man’s neck.
“Huh? What’s this?” Yuuki paused his freak-out to inspect the new item.
‘There is not much time to waste,’ Pegasus warned. ‘You need to transform and use your powers to assist Sailor Moon and the others.’
“Sailor Moon? How could I possibly help a superhero who can do anything? Besides, nothing’s attacked the city in a long time.”
‘That is what I am worried about. If you and the Sailor Guardians fail to practice using your powers regularly, it will become far too easy for someone to shatter our fragile peace.’
“Fair point. So, what sort of powers do I have, Mister Telepathic Horse?” Yuuki said, unconvinced. He figured he would soon escape this crazy hallucination -- this had to be his mind playing tricks on him, right?
‘It is easier to explain if you transform. Place your right hand over your heart and repeat after me: Elysion Prayers, Make Up!’
Yuuki rolled his eyes at the cheesy catchphrase, but he still did as Pegasus directed.
“Elysion Prayers, Make Up!”
Yuuki fought the urge to yelp loudly as bright beams of sunlight encased his body, lifting him into the air.
He felt his school uniform melt away, only to be replaced with a new outfit. He was now wearing a long, white garment with sheer sleeves, tassel decorations, and a slit down the side, which was cinched at the waist with a dark teal ribbon. Under that was white pants and shoes.
He felt a strange warmth around his neck and looked down to see two golden chokers appear. A similar sensation at his ears suggested he had matching earrings as well.
Not to be forgotten, the pendant floated upwards and its cord vanished, leaving just the gem. He watched it float closer to him until it painlessly attached itself to his forehead.
All of this happened in an instant (at least, it did to the observing Pegasus), and the instant Helios’ feet were on the ground, he snapped out of his trance.
“EH!? What is this!?” he squawked, twisting and turning as he examined himself. “How did this happen?”
Pegasus ignored the barrage of questions. ‘We must not delay, Master Helios. If we hurry, we may be able to make contact with the young maiden before she leaves --’
“Heiwano-san! Are you okay?”
“...Crap.”
‘We cannot let anyone see you like this. Quickly, de-transform!’
“How do I do that!?”
‘Simply willing it to happen should suffice. Try picturing what you were wearing beforehand.’
Helios closed his eyes, imagining his school uniform, and just like that, he was Yuuki again. “Uh, and what will you do?” he asked.
‘Do not worry about me. Now, go!’
Yuuki rushed out of the alleyway without hesitation.
“Heiwano-san!” A girl waved to him as he approached.
“Ah, Fujioka-san, hello.”
“I heard you cry out, is everything okay?”
“Oh, everything’s fine,” he said, waving off the concern with a small chuckle. “I just found...”
He stuffed his hand in a pocket and found an unfamiliar object. He pulled it out and showed it to her.
“It’s a pegasus keychain. Somebody must have left it there, but how do you lose something like this in a dirty alleyway? I guess I’m going to search for its owner.”
“Pegasus?” she giggled. “Don’t you mean a pegacorn?”
“Or unisus, or alicorn... It’s not like I can ask it what term it prefers.”
“Well, good luck! I gotta get home.”
“See you tomorrow, then.”
“Yeah, see ya!”
Yuuki breathed a sigh of relief as she walked away.
‘I do not appreciate being handled roughly like that.’ The miniature winged horse tossed its mane in disgust.
“Well, if you take the form of a toy, you should be prepared to be treated like one,” he retorted. “So what are my powers, exactly?”
‘We will address that when you can transform without being disturbed.’
“So much for being quick...”
‘It cannot be helped, I am afraid. Protecting your civilian identity is now your greatest responsibility, Master Helios. Everything else will come in due time.’
Yuuki trudged home with more questions than answers.
the vague request makes her lips purse , hotaru stepping further into the classroom . she cannot imagine what he would want with her , though she sees no reason to deny him the opportunity to speak . after all , heiwano yuuki was hardly any threat to her well being , && though they are not terribly close , he has given her no reason not to trust him .
❛ yes , chibiusa-chan wanted to go home quickly . ❜ hotaru confirms , fingers curling && loosening around the handle of her violin case - her own reason for staying late . ❛ what is it you wanted to talk about ? ❜
All the courage he had mustered swiftly died as she walked closer to him. The door slid shut behind Hotaru -- thank goodness. The last thing he wanted was for someone to walk in on the most awkward conversation of his life.
“You see, I... I know...” He floundered, looking away out of embarrassment. Perhaps ‘I know your secret’ was not the best way to start out, especially when there was the possibility his assumption was wrong. “I know my other friends wouldn’t understand my problem, but maybe you will.”
“After I met Tsukino-san, I started having the weirdest dreams. In a lot of them, I was flying with a girl who looked exactly like her. I called her young maiden. There were several other people in my dreams, including one who reminded me of you, but that girl was the main one.”
“...I have no clue what it means,” he finished lamely, staring down at his lap. He hoped his slight lie would not be detected.
you know how most stories describe the grim reaper && the bringer of the apocalypse as these tall, mysterious, evil hooded figures ? yeah, that’s all bs. actually, she’s just a tiny, gothic firefly who really likes the colour purple. && she’s totally harmless - well, as long as she doesn’t need to destroy the world or anything.
if you’d like to hang out with the cute goddess of destruction, TOMOE HOTARU / SAILOR SATURN, you should LIKE or REBLOG this promo && she’ll pop over for a look see !!

❛ don’t tell me you’re here all by yourself , heiwano-san . ❜ the school was surely empty by now , as most activities had ceased hours ago . so why was he still here ?
Yuuki turned the red teardrop-shaped gem over in his hand. How could one little item cause so much confusion and disarray? How was he supposed to cope with learning he was not who he thought he was?
He was startled by a slightly accusatory statement, his fingers subconsciously clutching the pendant. A sigh of relief escaped him when he recognized the voice’s owner.
“Ah, Tomoe-san... I was actually hoping to have a word with you. It would be better if your friend Tsukino-san was here too, but it seems she’s gone home already.”
“ Oh wow ~ You sure do say such strange things, You are like a less depression Azama … I love it “
Kaiyo laughed softly as the other spouted about many things that kaiyo honestly didn’t fully grasp but still listened anyways, afterall … yuuki was his friend. he sat back upright and rested his hands in his lap once more as the other seemed to be going in and out of sorting through some heavy thoughts. Kaiyo didn’t know what it was but yuuki could be distant sometimes and it made him curious … very curious about what the other could be thinking about, but never the less he looked back to the stars above them and smiled.
“ Perhaps you are right though, maybe the stars know secrets that no one can understand but maybe one day they can still lead us when we are in need “
Yuuki nodded thoughtfully in agreement. “In our darkest hours, they are always there to show us the way, literally and figuratively. I have used constellations to navigate on nighttime flights.”
“This reminds me of a conversation I had with a old friend of mine,” he mused, sitting up to face Kaiyo. “She said we all have a star in our chests. We have to protect this star and keep it burning brightly.” He placed a hand over his heart. “When your chest feels hot, your star is shining.”
His smile faltered slightly. “She told me showing even a little bit of fear to the darkness would allow it to attack, swallowing up the light of my star. Looking back now, I should have heeded her warning. I let my insecurities get the better of me... It will never happen again.”
“Regardless... I suppose star was her way of saying soul or heart, but I think the metaphor is quite appropriate,” Yuuki continued, returning to the subject at hand.
Yuuki’s mother is an archeologist, and his father is an oneirologist (someone who studies dreams); they’re extremely busy and almost never around. He and his older twin sisters, Kimiko and Kiyoko, take care of the household chores themselves.
Once he realizes he’s Helios, Yuuki confides in his older sisters, and their memories of their time as the Menaeds are unlocked.
Helios has quite the soothing, peaceful aura. It was originally a defense mechanism to deter enemies from attacking him, but now he (as Yuuki) uses it to calm the nerves of other students before important tests. It’s less effective, but still active, when he’s not transformed.
It’s unknown when exactly Helios was born, but he was raised by the Menaeds in Elysion.
The Star Seeds of Helios and the Menaeds were/are very similar to Sailor Crystals. This is how Yuuki, Kimiko, and Kiyoko can transform and use their magical abilities. They may not be as powerful as actual Sailor Guardians when attacking, but they have healing and purifying powers that can rival Sailor Moon’s in potency.
Yuuki is claustrophobic. Until he regained his memories of his past life, he could never explain this fear – it stems from when he was captured and trapped in a birdcage by Nehelenia.
Helios’ power fluctuates with the sun. When the Dead Moon Circus invaded, he was weakened by the total solar eclipse and they easily slipped past his defenses.
Kaiyo laughed softly as his strange retainer spoke about the stars. Kaiyo had snuck out late to go stargazing and it seems his retainer had skillfully followed him as he always did since kaiyo had a habit of slipping away. Kaiyo turned his attention back to the sky above them and leans on his hand as he sighed softly, he was pretty content in this moment. He sat in silence for a bit, counting the stars in his head and then finally leaning back on the grass and stretching and looking about to the other
He doesn’t remember exactly when the other became his more permanent retainer but at least he didn’t try to stop him from his late night adventures like some of his siblings retainers did. Kaiyo enjoyed times like this because he felt as if he didn’t have to worry about anything else around him and he could just exist instead of having to overthink every interaction he had with a person.
“ I don’t mind the strange things you say though, So tell me, Yuuki-chan. If only the stars make sense then what are they saying ? “
“If they are speaking to me, I cannot understand them,” Yuuki replied, a hint of sorrow in his voice. “However, stars are supposedly deeply connected to fate... Perhaps they are trying to guide us down the right path?”
He felt an odd attachment to celestial bodies. From the few hazy memories he had of his past life, he knew he had friends who somehow were connected to planets and moons. He recalled nothing more than that, of course, but it was a start.
Yuuki could not shake the feeling that this whole situation was wrong. He was not supposed to be here serving Kaiyo. He had another liege long ago, and he perished trying to save them -- he was a failure, completely unworthy of another chance. Yet here he was, a retainer who was expected to protect his prince no matter the cost. He could only hope that he would succeed this time.
“I am eternally grateful that the stars aligned for our friendship, Kaiyo.”
This is one of those times where I say “Screw canon, I do what I want.” Here are the changes I have made for my interpretation of Helios in regards to his relationship with Chibiusa.
Before his reincarnation, Helios was extremely old mentally, having been around to witness the fall of Silver Millenium (and who knows how long he had been alive before that point); physically, he was somewhere in his late teens. In his post-canon verse, Chibiusa is about fourteen years old and he is eighteen. Either way, he is quite a bit older than her.
He did not kiss her, he nuzzled her cheek (in his Pegasus form) and then hugged her (in his human form).
Chibiusa did not kiss him to wake him up after the battle, as his body had disintegrated. Her grief over his death, along with the last remnants of Helios’ power, is what causes her Pink Moon Crystal to appear. She remained hopeful that they would meet again someday... Which may have been why she was drawn to Yuuki, his reincarnation.
Artemis, Luna, and Diana escort the Sailor Guardians to the surface instead of Helios and his Pegasus; the Menaeds take up the role of protecting Elysion in his absence.
Helios and Chibiusa do share a unique bond, but it's more similar to the one between Helios and Mamoru than Usagi and Mamoru's romance. That's why he gravitated towards her when looking for the maiden from his vision -- she is the daughter of Endymion, the man who “shares the same heart and soul” as him.
As Yuuki, he sees Chibiusa as a good friend. Their dynamic is like that of an older brother and a younger sister. Any feelings she may have for him are one-sided. (For Chibiusas: it’s fine if your muse has a crush on Helios, but it will be unrequited.)
When the rest of the gang first met Yuuki, they all agreed that he was strangely familiar, but not a threat to Chibiusa's safety. They quickly accepted him as a trusted ally once his identity as Helios was revealed.
Hello! Lark here, and I love pegasus riders so much that I made another roleplay blog, this time for my favorite Sailor Moon character! If you’d like to interact with a canon-divergent version of Helios based on his manga (and hopefully Crystal) incarnation, please like or reblog this post!
