Resisting the urge to make a sarcastic comment, Alicia took the stuff being passed her without any compliant. Looking around, she gathered her bearings again, before pointing in a direction. “Back that way.” She confirmed. She nodded in agreement. While running off into the night seemed like the easiest option, she didn’t want them to think she had been bitten. Just because she wanted independence didn’t mean she wanted to cause them pain. Nor did she want it to be prolonged. “We should see if they can spare a truck, make it a little easier to cart stuff around.” She knew it would make it a little harder in that they would have to keep an eye out for fuel, but that was a bridge they could cross when they came to it. Setting off, she stayed silent, suddenly realising just how real it was. The walk wasn’t long, she hadn’t actually ventured that far away, only about twenty minutes. Once they reached the compound, Alicia turned to Elyza. “You’re welcome to come in, or stay out here, whatever you want.” She murmured. Before she could hear the answer, she made her own way through the gates.
It didn’t take long for her to find her mother and brother. Wanting to keep it as brief as possible, she didn’t allow herself to be pulled down, to join them. In a voice that sounded so different to her own, one that sounded so much older than she was, she informed them that she was leaving. That she needed to do this without them. That together they would be the death of each other. She could see the hurt in her mother’s eyes, but the understanding in her brother’s. He had always been the golden child, and he knew it. He knew that Alicia had always felt like she was left on the side lines. Alicia smiled softly, grateful as he interrupted her mom’s refusal. It took another few minutes before it was accepted, and Alicia felt herself being wrapped in familiar arms, the three of them stood together, not knowing when they would be able to do so again. Holding back tears, she smiled, wishing them farewell. Before she could leave, she was handed more blankets, some food and a set of keys. At least the journey hadn’t been a total waste, she couldn’t help but think, Elyza wouldn’t be too annoyed at the time spent here. Thanking them, and telling them she would see them again soon, she turned to leave. Meeting the blonde again, she tossed the keys to her, before loading up the back with their supplies. Jumping into the vehicle, she quickly wiped away a tear before it could fall down her face. “Where to now?” She asked, turning to the other girl.
With the two making their way back to Alicia’s family, Elyza wanted so bad to tell Alicia that this was the wrong thing to do. She would do anything to be back with her family. Yet here the girl was, willingly walking away from them in a time like this. Never having any contact with them other than maybe running into each other at some point. She couldn’t even do that. There was ‘maybe I’ll see you again’ type of communication. They were gone forever and it still hurt her. At the mention of a truck, Elyza stayed quiet, not having an answer towards it. It would help a lot, but she had last this long on how she was doing things now, she didn’t need the truck. Nor did she really need Alicia to start throwing suggestions her way. But for the sake of this new duo lasting without Elyza killing both of them, there was no need for her and her comments to start argument. It was best for stay quiet. For now, at least. Arriving to the compound, Elyza shook her head, not really seeing the point of going in. One, she didn’t care much about it. Two, she would only continue to get angry if she watched a tearful goodbye as someone left on their own rather than their lives being taken away. Yet again, it was best for no arguments to start because of Elyza’s mouth. Waiting for Alicia to exit the building and come back, she became impatient as each second went by, almost wanting to leave her behind completely. For someone who didn’t want to be with her family because they didn’t care about her, she was definitely taking way too long. But eventually, she spotted Alicia walking out with items in her arms, a bit thankful she did so. Wasn’t going to change the fact that she was too stubborn to actually want to accept it. As she would say, she was doing fine on her own this far, she didn’t need any hand outs or any help. Guess that’s just what came with having someone tag along with her now. Catching the keys, she fought the urge to roll her eyes. Of course she’d get it. Getting into the drivers seat after everything was loaded up, she started it up and shrugged. “Wherever the wind takes me, sunshine.” Elyza took in a deep breath, trying to come to terms with Alicia tagging along. “Us. Wherever it takes us.” Driving off, she sighed and hoped that it would be easier to accept her company than it currently is.
