Has any one thought maybe this whole Things from "outside" the universe (toymaker,meistro - possibly the doctor) are actually coming from OUR universe like legit our side of the screen. That's why the screwdriver looks like a remote, why they have control over certain things (the toymaker is a writer, meistro works on the score) and the doctor is just a fix-it fan that fell through to their universe and got stuck? (Tron style)
