An experienced Los Angels theater manager, Emal Nessary managed the Bridge Cinema De Lux for National Amusements, Inc., from 2001 to 2005. During this time, Emal Nessary studied business administration with an emphasis in business information systems at DeVry University at Long Beach, from which he went on to earn his bachelor of science with magna cum laude distinction. Researchers at the University of Colorado’s very real Humor Research Lab (HuRL) have analyzed scores of data to determine the funniest cities in America, based largely on a city’s live comedy scene. The HuRL researchers looked at data like the number of comedy clubs a city had per square mile, how often inhabitants performed humor-related Web searches, and how comedians rated each city’s comedy audience to determine the country’s funniest cities. Topping the list in the first three spots are Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta. Cities like Portland in Oregon, New York City, Denver, and Los Angeles also made the top 10. LA's Laugh Factory Home to Multiple Stand Up Records

The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, California, is one of the better known stand up comedy clubs in the United States. Countless well known comics have performed at the club over the years, while a number of memorable stand up moments have played out on The Laugh Factory stage. In April of 2007 comedian Dane Cook performed at The Laugh Factory for nearly four hours, breaking the club’s endurance record. Richard Pryor had previously held the record, performing for two hours and 41 minutes in 1980. The record would not last long, however. Just five days later Dave Chapelle performed for just over six hours, beginning a set at 10:30 PM and wrapping up quarter to five the following morning. However, Cook returned to The Laugh Factory in January of 2008 to set a record that has so far stood the test of time.
