The not so fabulous destiny of Amélie Poulain
I first saw Amelie two years ago, i can not describe how this movie touches me and leaves me with a smile on my face every time i watch it. I can relate much to Amelie, her introverted childhood, the worlds she created inside her head to entertain herself and escape the sad events of life and the boring reality, how she pays attention to things people usually do not notice, the way she admires her favorite things, she knows how to spot beauty in the surroundings, the little things she likes and feel in harmony with are enough to keep her going.
In search of happiness she tries to connect with others on her own way, Amelie discovers what a great pleasure it is to help other people, to fix their lives anonymously. However things don’t always go the way they were expected to be, most of the time, when it comes to love, she refuses to settle for mediocre relationships, it is much more interesting inside her head, the way she pursues love is as awkward as her, but it is the only way she knows, the only way she enjoys, she could be rational and do things the usual way people do it, but that is the last thing she might want. She might be perceived as a naive girl, but for her it’s not a problem she’s happy with her world, she’s content with the good she does, even if she doesn’t get recognition for it.
At the last scene, there is a moment where she catches herself daydreaming again about things that are impossible to happen, she can’t help crying before she realizes that her dreams are actually coming true, of course because it’s a movie there is a happy ending and she gets what she dreamed of, in reality, i guess my life is stuck at the moment where she cries in despair, nothing goes as planned. However i know things are not supposed to always go the way we want, and we should accept that we might never get what we dreamed of having, but we should keep on trying, it’s not just about the result, it’s about the trial as well. Surprisingly enough when people get old they don’t regret the mistakes they have done but rather the things they haven’t done, to live a life that is full of mistakes and failed trials is better than never trying and never knowing what might have happened.
