I have been meaning to write something but I didnt know where to start... I will try to not get sappy but I can't promise because if you have read chapter 138 of attack on titan you would be hurting too. Maybe if you loved mikasa and eren and their relationship, you would be hurting like me. I feel both happy and sad for them but even when I say happy tears won't stop rolling down my eyes.
I can't expresd enough how much sad I feel for eren. This scene between eren and mikasa might be my most favourite panel because this shows that both of them love each other so much that they had accepted that eren would die from mikasa's hands. They are not sad about it, mikasa is not sad about killing eren. She is smiling because they both communicated in the alternate reality that eren showed her that there was never no happy ending for them. Even if they ran away, eren would have died after 4 years and paradise would have been done for and mikasa would still have to live without eren.
I think because mikasa didn't confess in chapter 123, eren never got the motivation to stay behind and stay close to the kind boy in himself. When mikasa didn't give eren the answer he was looking for, he got the motivation to do what he dreaded so much..the rumbling!
Eren clearly says here that he didnt get the courage to kill everyone outside paradise so he'd rather spend his remaining years with mikasa.
I think this shows that mikasa was also not happy in this AU. She also felt guilty like eren because she clearly brought it up before too (how they left everyone behind) and she does it again and then appologizes to eren for bringing it up again.
I brought this up last month as a crackpot theory. Basically, zeke said ymir wanted something from them and based on these panels, I expected ymir to be looking for genuine/pure/unconditional love
She was so cuaght up with this moment that we saw this memory twice and then we also see it a third time.
Ymir is smiling because this is what she saw before the curse and everything. This is the moment that made ymir smile. Not the scene between armin or zeke or anything. Because ymir herself had been struck by a couple showing affection to each other as a little kid. And now as a 2000 year old goddess, she witnessed unconditional love again.
I think ymir will end the curse because she has finally witnessed something that she wanted, something that made her smile again. Something she saw only as a little girl. ( I do wonder if she will talk to mikasa next chapter.)
And eremika did really end with angst. Isayama's true otp is true to his main theme of cruel and beautiful.
