My dear Last Legacy fiends, tell me something. Am I the only one that can’t see this “Felix still likes Rime and MC is third-wheeling” narrative everyone keeps talking about?
I am sincerely confused. I have played through all of Felix’s chapters, and never have I felt like this was the case.
In every conflict, in every crossroads, Felix has chosen MC over Rime. He has protected them from Rime and shown genuine affection and concern towards MC. I haven’t seen Felix try to justify what Rime was doing, nor have I seen him express wishes to ditch MC and join Rime to try and “get him back to normal” again. He does not trust him easily, and it feels as though he would take MC over him in an instant.
Felix cares about Rime, of course. Did we all forget they had not broken up, but rather, they were still very much in love when Rime died? or that Felix spent FIVE YEARS trying to bring him back? Their reunion was bound to be conflictive and complex, and it has. It would be unrealistic to write Felix in a way that makes him instantly detached from Rime, what they went through and the torture Felix subjected both himself AND Rime to for five years with failed necromancy attempts.
On the other hand, things have changed. Felix has found MC and has started to fall for them, which directly conflicts with the grief he has been experiencing for ages before MC’s accidental arrival. He needs time to organize his feelings and his thoughts, and his arc pretty much revolves around him moving on from the past.
Rime? He has nothing. He was robbed of a peaceful death, then abruptly brought back with no one waiting for him. He had no allies and, above all, he lacked the anchor he expected to have, Felix, because he’s got MC now. Imagine the frustration and the pain that would’ve made him feel, to know he no longer has a clear purpose in life when he’s been given a second chance. To heal, he also needs to let go.
The revitalized closeness between Felix and Rime is part of their healing process. It’s them coming to terms with the current situation as peacefully and reasonably as possible, after many, MANY conflicts.
And of course him and Felix are going to have chemistry. They were lovers. Why would that be strange? They did get along pretty well.
My thoughts of a possible poly ending? Make it a choice. Personally, I wouldn’t mind it, even if I’m not polyamorous myself. I like Rime well enough and it would be interesting. Keep in mind, though, that there are many non-poly people who would be saddened by this turn of events— and many poly people who may absolutely despise Rime.
