Hi! I love your takes on LL! I'm curious what you might think about a map about Astraea? The Suhail, Vela, Athtal, Vair, Rivath, etc. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.
I have no idea how I didn't see this until now, but I am so sorry, I promise I wasn't ignoring you
I would Love to talk about the map!! I love maps so much and am devastated we never got a good one. Because of how little info I'm running off of and the fact that this is a very wide topic that touches areas I want to expand on deeper, this is gonna be a bit of a rambling post
As far as I'm aware, the only maps we got are the table from Fathom tower, appearing to depict a coastline, and one on the wall in Anisa's apartment of some kind of a lake or inlet
The fact that the map on the table is in the War Room and focuses more on the land tells me that there isn't much concern of threat from the water. That paired with Vair being a very large country across the ocean has me picturing things to be kinda similar to like the Pacific Ocean in the real world. You’ve got this big ocean with 2 continents that come pretty near each other but not quite, so then the Suhail could be either between them or somewhere along one of the coastlines. Since the Suhail is the only named body of water (that I recall), I'm going to assume that it's at least semi-local or close enough to be relevant to the characters.
Something I have to keep in mind is that Last Legacy takes place in a world that is not as globalized as ours. When I first read through the story, I had assumed that Astraea was the whole world because of the way it's spoken about, in game and irl by the devs, Astraea is referred to as The World so I assumed Astraea=Earth but I've seen some people say they interpreted it as a continent. I like that idea because to the characters, Astraea is the whole world. Maybe other continents don't seem as particularly important because they're so far away or maybe travelling beyond Astraea isn't something that's well documented. I’ve also played around with the idea that Astraea is the country that LL takes place in. We know that Porrima is the capital and there are some other cities (namely Mournfall), but ultimately, I think that might be too small scale for the level the characters talk about it, especially given the number of characters who have immigrated from other countries.
Anyway, I also think this layout is a cool idea lore-wise because Vair is “the ilephtan country” so it has a similar vibe to in The Dragon Prince where you've got humans dominating one area and magicborn/fantastical species in the other. I know the magic works differently in LL but I have thoughts on the origin of ilephtas that should really be its own post
Moving on to Althtal,
It has black sand shores. That is a phenomenon seen typically as a result of volcanic activity so then Althtal is almost certainly a volcanic island and most likely part of a chain of islands, since that's how plate tectonics work, but I think we can assume that Althtal is the largest/most populated since it's the only one mentioned directly. I’m also willing to bet that it’s closer to Vair since it was once a colony of theirs and the 2 have overlapping cultures. A big point to this being the language that Tulsi and Sage speak is called Vairi. I talked about this a few weeks ago in the Fictif Revival discord server (which you should totally join if you haven't already) and for anyone who saw that, I’d like to issue a correction. I said I headcanonned that Althtal’s emancipation was more recent, but it’s actually explicitly stated by Dev that the 2 split a long time ago so that's my bad!
I don't have much I can say on Vela and Rivath right now because I don't remember enough about them to state anything and the info that we do have is all in the actual game so I would need to replay it. Hopefully I'll find the energy to make separate post/s on them later. Life has been kicking my ass a bit, so I haven't been posting as much as I'd like to be
Thank you so much for the ask and please, I'd love to hear other's thoughts!!
