Trying (and failing) to organize my thoughts about omega!Robert

I already talked about his upbringing a teensy bit

But I just- *holds head in hands and cries*

Robbie was definitely raising Robert under the expectation that he was going to present alpha. There was no way he was going to accept any other possibilities, so he pushed that expectation on Robert. Hard. His son would present alpha. His son would become Mecha Man. His son would continue the superhero lineage.

I can only imagine that while Robert was already grieving the death of his father, presenting omega sent his world totally falling apart (as if it wasn’t already). But, I just know he was utterly crushed with the sense of everything he was working toward being for nothing.

So, he starts pushing himself. He was self-isolating after Robbie’s death anyways, so there was no one (save for Chase who used to babysit him) who knew that Mecha Man Blue was secretly an omega unlike his predecessors.

Robert doused himself in scent blockers when he worked, took so many heat suppressants he ended up in and out of the hospital, and ignored any urges he had to nest (along with any other pre-heat urges), only confining himself to the cold, emptiness of his apartment for the durations of heats that he was forced to experience.

He was locked in such a cycle of intense self-deprivation, it makes me sad for him 💔

I think this only heightens Nevermore’s urge to want to protect and take care of him, too. She’s constantly making sure he’s safe, fed, comfortable… She’ll back him up when they’re on missions together and help him to keep his omega status a secret when he’s in costume. And she absolutely will happily start a fight with anyone who even looks at him a little funny. (Evidently, her pre-ruts would also heighten those urges, ehehe!)

She just doesn’t want him to feel like denying himself to the point where he’s hurting himself is the answer anymore. Quite frankly, it never should’ve been…

I think that also makes him asking her to be his alpha all the more sweet, because what do you mean you trusted her to support you? Wahhhhhhh! 🥹💕

The sliding doors parted, bringing with it a gust of conditioned air through the walkway. Axel and Nova both let out a hefty sigh of relief as it instantly cooled the both of them from the sweat-inducing heat of the outside world. Not only was grocery shopping necessary at the moment, it was an excuse not to bake alive in their apartment while their air conditioning unit was on the fritz. Axel could only bare to slip on a muscle tee and jeans, his arms growing goosebumps that were welcome against him. Nova had slipped on a skirt and her own tank top, both shades of black that make the appearance of a single dress from far away.

"Alright, we are getting basics." Axel sighed, "Eggs, butter, and I think more chicken nuggets because I am NOT cooking in this heat. We are air frying."

"Mmm, nugs." Nova agreed, almost sleepy in the heat as she looked around, "Can we get ice cream?"

"Ideal." Axel agreed with a nod, "Let's get it at the end so it doesn't melt."

"Walking is so hard."

"Want to get in the cart?"

Nova's eyes lit up, her gaze both tentative and hopeful. She wasn't sure if it was a joke, or if he was offering seriously. The confirmation Nova needed was Axel slowing down to a stop. He passed her a bright smile, encouraging with a tilt of his head. With a giddy shake of her hands, stimming with a twitch of her neck, she climbed in and adjusted herself so her legs were at the end of the cart, sticking out slightly before Axel began to push again. "My princess deserves to take her outing in her carriage." Axel teased, leaning over the edge of the cart and catching the top of her head in a playful kiss.

"Thank-you, my knight." Nova teased back, winking up at him before focusing back to the aisle they slipped down. It was the cereal aisle, the quickest way to the eggs and dairy in the back of the store.

"Oh, Axy-!" Nova sat up and pawed into the air, indicating she needed her boyfriend to stop once more. He did, eyeing up the cereals as Nova continued, "Can we get Reese's Puffs? Please?"

"Course, darling." Axel hummed and picked the box off of the shelf, handing the cereal down into the cart for Nova to grab and place neatly to her side, her smile wide and pleased on her lips as Axel pushed at the cart, "Do you want milk?"

"Nah, I'm going to just eat it dry."

"That is some good cronch."

They laughed as they made it to the back of the store, and Axel selected one of the lower priced carton of eggs. Dutifully, Nova crossed her legs into a seated position and placed the box down. She gave them a cushion with her skirt, bunching the fabric up slightly as if using it as bubble wrap. Axel watched her as her nose scrunched up in concentration, his face warming red with adoration before he shook his own head and turned them to the frozen after picking up a box of butter sticks on the way by them.

"Hey there," A woman with a sunny smile greeted them as they passed through one of the main aisles, her hair done neatly up into a net and her gloved hands extending pieces of sweet smelling bread, "We're giving samples, would you like one? They're brownies."

"Oh, yes please!" Nova beamed as she reached for one. The woman happily offered her one and then gave Axel the second. The two popped the sweet brownie in their mouth, and Nova's head lay back in a long hum of appreciation. Axel nodded his head softly, his agreement showing in the curl of his lips as he sighed contendedly.

"Those are SOOOO good! The heck?" Nova reached for one of the display mix boxes and read over the title, "Babe, we need to get a box."

"This AND the reeses puffs?" Axel teased lightly, "Someone's craving sweets."

"I haven't eaten since lunch!" Nova whined, "Besides, chocolate is good!"

"Can't deny that." Axel laughed, but let her keep the box in their cart as seal thanked the sample woman and began to make their way to the frozen food section.

"We can't bake those for a while, you know," Axel hummed, "Unless you want to turn the oven on in this weather."

"Oh, I was kind of just going to mix the mix together and eat it raw."

"Nova no! That's how you get salmonella, girl."

"Nu-Uh! The box says safe to eat raw on the front."

Squinting, Axel confirmed it did. He huffed and turned his head, catching Nova's cheek in a playful bite of his teeth before pulling away. It left star giggling as star wiped her cheek off playfully, grinning over while keeping the eggs ever balanced in her lap. The brownie mix had been tucked to the side of the cart as they wheeled into the frozen foods section.

"Dinosaurs?"

"As if my refined palette would eat anything less." Axel grinned as Nova laughed at his words, her hand covering her mouth and hiding away her crooked teeth as she giggled. He loved her teeth, but she had always been so conscious of them in their daily life. He would do his best to remind her that they were beautiful always. He plucked the largest pack he could find before plopping them in the cart at Nova's side. She touched the bag only to shudder and put it to the side, the frozenness of it chilly on her poorly circulated fingers.

"Ice cream still?" Nova bat her eyeslashes up sweetly at Axel, who gave a thoughtful look back at her as he bit his lip.

"I dunno. That plus the treats already..."

"I'll pay for the cereal and brownie mix! I promise I will. Please, Axy? They were sooooooo good!"

Unable to say 'no' to his girl for too long, Axel relented with a nod and a bargain of: "I can choose the ice cream flavor, though."

"Ugh, fiiiiiine."

In the end, he chose moose tracks, which Nova wasn't too bothered by. She sequestered the ice cream to the corner with the nuggets, adjusting around the objects in the cart to stick her legs from the front once more, combat boots knocked to either side and splayed as he brought them to the front of the checkout. The cashier smiled at them politely, giggling at Nova as she waved from her spot in the cart.

"Don't you look cozy." The cashier giggled, "It's so nice to see young people can still have fun."

"You're never too old for carts if you have someone to push them." Axel chimed, reaching out to stim on Nova's shorn head. The woman at the cash register sighed wistfully, as if remembering something from her youth, before offering out the total and bagging the items as Axel paid.

"Here's your receipt," The woman handed Axel the paper and then passed the bags down to Nova, "And here you go, miss!"

Miss. The words made Nova's eyes widen in awe. A flush of red burst across her face as she smiled and accepted it with a stutter 'thanks' to the cashier. Unware of what she did, the woman simply waved the couple off as Axel pushed the cart out of the store and to their car in the parking lot. The air was still hot and muggy on the outside, the wall of it blasting across their faces and chapping their lips with near immediacy. Axel groaned, and Nova threw her head back with a loud sigh of annoyance, clutching the bag with the frozen ice cream and nuggets closer to her as a source of cooling.

"Alright, princess," Axel stopped the cart at the car and hit the 'unlock' button on his fob, "Time to transfer carriages."

Nova passed the bags to Axel and hopped out of the cart, putting it away in the cart dock close by while Axel shut the trunk on the goods. A shaky, sweaty palm touched seals shoulder, and seal turned to find Nova staring with wide, flushed cheeks. Concern painted Axel's own face for a moment as he gave her a questioning look. Relief settled in his gut as star smiled, wide and bright and hopeful and with such a joy she might as well have shone brighter than the sun on them.

"She said 'miss'." Nova whispered in awe, "She called me 'miss'-!"

"I know!" Axel giggled and reached out, taking Nova into a hug and spinning her. Nova giggled, tilting her head from side to side and moving on the tips of her toes in a motion of complete joy. They remained like that, sweating as they danced and held one another with excitement over the victory for them both.

"Nov?"

He reached for star. He put stars face in his palm and brought her down for a kiss, long and slow and caring. Nova kissed back, moving closer. Relishing in the affection as she smiled against her lover's lips. Axel giggled, moving and whispering quietly between the two of them:

"You are absolutely gorgeous."

Nova blushed and giggled, bumping her nose to his and rubbing them together, "And YOU are handsome. Now come on, sap, the ice cream is going to melt."

"Alright, alright. Come on, get in princess."

"Oh frick, wait, do you think I could mix the brownie mix INTO the ice cream at some point?"

"Guess we'll have to find out."

Nova giggled as she turned on the radio the second the car started. She hummed to the song as the AC turned on and cooled against her face, feeling as beautiful as Axel said she was for the first time in a while.

Of course, not every single person asking about your F/O is a scammer, but these accounts tend to have AI generated pfps (which might be cropped or harder to detect) and other tells.

Generally, be suspicious if the account has little stuff on there made by themself, like no pinned personal post, no tags on posts they reblog and such. Some of these accounts reblog a lot, but you'll notice they reblog directly from the OP of these posts and never add tags either. Their bio may either be blank or have bios with emojis that imply they are an artist or have commissions open. They might post commission examples which are usually stolen art or AI.

This is because this is a variant of an ao3 fanfic commission scam (this person has more posts talking about multiple different scams across tumblr and ao3 if you'd like to learn more), but now they're asking about F/Os instead of fanworks or OCs. They will try to get you to commission them to draw for you, and if you do, then they will give you either AI generated images, traced AI, or they'll trace others' art.

More EmberMech omegaverse AU thoughts now that I watched a comprehensive video essay recommended by my friend (Thank you, Spirit! 🙏)

I still haven’t wavered on my assigning Nevermore as an alpha and Robert as an omega, that’s staying for good methinks 🙂‍↕️

So, as I briefly mentioned, Nevermore was banished from her home planet after refusing to sire heirs once she presented to continue the royal elemental lineage. (His mom definitely didn’t pull any punches when it came to referring to him as “broken” and “What kind of an alpha doesn’t want to continue their bloodline?” blah, blah, blah…) In this AU, she was actually raised there as opposed to on Earth, and was banished to Earth when she was 24. (Thus, he skipped his Justice Incarnate / Red Death arc and jumped straight into joining the Avengers as Ember Blade, then like her main timeline, eventually gets fired and joins the Z-Team)

From Robert’s end of things, his presenting came shortly after the murder of his father, which only heightened the blow of the tragedy. Both Robbie (RR II) and Bobby (RR I) presented as alphas, and Mecha Man was a very domineering persona in the hero force. He was very careful in hiding the fact that he was an omega while working, so as not to ruin the reputation that his family worked toward. Given that Earth’s society is still pretty unfairly skewed in favor of alphas and against omegas, he found it doubly important to hide his true presentation to be able to continue doing the work that he was doing.

The Torrance branch of SDN is one of the company’s smaller branches, and when the company began to diversify its employees, this branch was one of the first to onboard more omegas into its staff. Still, workplace harassment of omegas is common and its betas will occasionally step in to mediate.

Robert being an omega hired to dispatch was a learning curve for the Z-Team, as many of them present alpha and had to humble themselves to listen and trust his guidance. Eventually, he did win over their respect, and any Z-Teamer would gladly punch someone for the sake of protecting their dispatcher.

Nevermore and Robert don’t immediately begin dating after he kills Shroud, but rather she begins courting him (buying him Twinkies and snacks, throwing her jacket over his shoulders when he gets cold, commanding attention for him in meetings when she feels he’s being disrespected, etc. etc.). Naturally, he remained oblivious to her courting attempts and thought she was just being nice to him. 🫩

They don’t officially begin dating until after Nevermore helps Robert through a surprise heat, and while he said a lot of flattering things while they were doing the do, she waited until his heat was over to ask him in no uncertain terms what he wanted from her.

ALSO!!! SCENTS!!! Robert’s pheromones smell like vanilla because I couldn’t resist making that Twinkie-lover smell like Twinkies /silly

Nevermore’s smell like whiskey, but she often uses scent blockers because the smokey smell from her powers—while amplified from that of her normal timeline—tends to make her scent a little more aggressive and overbearing to others (Robert likes it, though <3) She also does have enlarged canines, hell yeah! 😼

One more thing! Upon Nevermore asking where Robert typically nests, he just brought her over to that cramped ass cockpit of the mech suit and Nevermore went 😦 before dragging him shopping for a proper bed and blankets (but of course his nest wouldn’t be complete without a few shirts and things of hers. That would be to come closer to his next cycle, ofc 🤭)
