If people weren't quite so weird about bugs & burglars & stuff I think we could really do something fun by cranking the open-floorplan house up to 11. Shade walls on the eastern & western sides (as well as having a roof of course) but the rest can be artsy dividers & safety railings, maybe mosquito netting if you're still squicked about the bugs

If you wanted to be extra fun with it, you could combine it with the idea I'd had for all furniture, internal walls, & other such to fold away when not in use, which could potentially also fix that people-stealing-your-stuff worry. Complete empty series of concrete and tiled slabs when fully folded, like the most liminal barebones sketch-concept idea of a house
