Dimitri Belikov was/is one of the most underrated book boyfriends of all time.

Actually cares about the age difference between him and Rose without needing to have her immediately?

Mentors her, gives her wisdom, teaches her to fight, cares about the logistics of their relationship rather than just wuv?

Takes responsibility for his actions when forcibly turned into a monster?

Isn’t someone that everyone in the VA universe worships unconditionally without question because he’s just a human being?

Doesn’t use a tragic past to influence his actions/behavior?

Doesn’t have unrealistic powers/isn’t a Mary Sue, just a tall fighter boy with an uncanny sense of resilience?

Sense of honor and duty before all else?

Even their relationship was healthier than some contemporary writers (*cough*) IMO. The sex scenes were fade-to-black and not over the top. They took time to actually know, love, and forgive each other. Rose’s crush on him was realistic. They were pretty much equals in battle. I’m sorry, for the year 2005 when Edward Cullen ruled the YA world, I think Dimitri isn’t/wasn’t as appreciated as he could be/have been.

PS, I’ll always appreciate Mead for having Adrian snap at Rose at the end of Last Sacrifice. Everything he said was true, and it showed that our deft protagonist was also quite flawed and not entirely forgivable after everything.
