Hello!! If itās not a bother I was wondering if you could give advice for gradients/shading/general shift in colors without it looking cell shaded if that makes sense? I am planning on making a partially (fabric) painted partially embroidered back patch of the album Trust Ceremony by Jhariah since I am seeing him on tour somewhat soon!! Thank you for the time and advice if you respond š
Sure yeah. Caveat: i do do the equivalent of cel shading. It looks as lively and nuanced as it does because I embroider in flowing directions instead of straight up and down, or side to side, to fill a space. The light physically twisting and reflecting in different ways gives it a depth it would otherwise lack. For more convention shading, look up books by Michelle Staub, Emillie Ferris, and Trish Burr. They aim for photorealism compared to my cel shading. Trish Burr in particular has some wonderful free patterns for learning on, while Michelle Staub has a couple books out that are carried pretty widely in different library systems.
"Sewing is a gateway drug to thinking through complex problems. It seems really simple; culturally, we make it women's work. Let me tell you: real sewing at any kind of level of proficiency is a bloody magic trick. Sewing, like mold making, involves mental frames that require one to think inside out and backwards. It requires one to work on an order of operations that is often taking into account the reverse. It's a really, really important skill, and if you learn how to sew, you're mostly on your way to carpentry and welding and sheet metal work. I'm not kidding: these are planar forms meeting under rules and conditions. And if you can make a sleeve work, I swear to God, you could build a house."

Knitting update:
We have finally finished the last row of ants before we split for sleeves! I am too sleepy to split for sleeves tonight.
What have the artist and crafters of the PWHL lbr abandoned tonight?
This is one of the more ambitious pieces I've done for a bit, and I did it on an absurd deadline, but my trans dragon back patch is done! The project ended up taking 130 hours of working time to finish, using two strands of cotton floss for both fills and outlines. The base pattern was from my own collection and was originally from 1936.
Did you know there was actually a toy-making company that tried to compete with Playtime Co. They specialized in erotic toys for adults, the audience that Playtime Co. ignored. They were pretty successful until "the hour of debauchery" happened

I don't like making clothing why spent 3 weeks making a perfect body just to cover it up later, but she does look pretty in that dress
