This blog is dedicated to discussing and sharing tracker music. Everything will be pulled from The Mod Archive and linked back to their source.
What are trackers?
Trackers are pieces of software that read, play and write "modules."
What are modules?
Modules are individual pieces of music that are programmed using a tracker. They are usually entirely self-contained and only take up a few hundred kilobytes of space on your computer. They are not unlike punch cards used in music boxes.
Why are they cool?
Tracker music was first commonly used in video games made in the early to mid-1990s, offering a better alternative to General MIDI. Since they are self-contained, they will sound exactly the same no matter what hardware they are played on. They were also commonly used in the piracy and demo scene due to their lightweight performance impact and small filesize, making the modules easy to pack in and transfer.
