Do the Gentry believe in chemistry? Does chemistry believe in them?
I don’t know about the first part, but there’s a whole field of dark and illicit academia built around the fact that the answer to the second part is yes.

Watch out for the swamp queen! She's at war with the crows again. Happens every year when the cold gets to her bones, and she feels the loss of her leg, arm, eye and wing. If you're favoured by amber lass you're fine, but if you've offended the spider queen or sided with the sunflower lord watch out! The swamp queen's a spurned lover of the latter and has a bastard daughter with the former. If you give her a Burger King burger she'll leave you be though. No macdonalds or you'll lose your eyelids
Ugh, I’m going to be patching wings up again, aren’t I?
I have a flock of about 14 bartered and testy crows in my room and am quickly running out of the cookies they like. Send help.
What cookies are they? I can pick some up, and I’ll see if I can escort the crows to a more spacious accommodation than your dorm.
Shortbread cookies, and moving them would be nice if they are willing to leave. I’m slightly obligated to offer them protection, but I’m rapidly running out of supplies to heal them.

Not-Down-For-a-Datenignt Movie Night!
Hey guys. Now that I’m back to typing on a regular basis, I wanted to put it out there that I’m holding a movie night next Thursday for anyone that wants to chill and avoid references to all things relationship-y for the night. We’re starting with Ponyo and will take a vote on the next movie after that.
Only requirements to attend are bring a food dish to share that you think others will like, and respect my apartment as peaceful grounds. No ill will, malice, or trickery, and no discussion of romance. Let’s make this a fun night! :)
Let me know if you’d like to come, so I have a rough headcount ahead of time.
Sounds like fun. I shall bake the cookies!
I can make things explode with my mind.
“God summoning”
It’s like Pokémon. “Iehovah, Bastet, I choose you!”
Uh…Iron sand manipulation.
Yikes
Figurative Vocifery. I create as I speak.
Let’s dance
Back finally!
Hey, so I visited grandfather over the hols and I guess time can be a little weird, but I’m finally back on campus guys!
Welcome back.
Did I miss anything?
Back finally!
Hey, so I visited grandfather over the hols and I guess time can be a little weird, but I'm finally back on campus guys!
The Gentry didn't notice her, not for her first two years of being there. She was very good at being invisible to fae, a skill that comes from long ingrained knowledge and acquaintance. She was entirely normal, at least in their perception, and not worthy of notice. Until. Until a raven comes with a black letter. She cried for three days and then left for a week. When she came back she had a child with her, a child who was obviously Fae. She was worthy of notice then. (1/3)
She was the recipient of deep and frantic scrutiny then. They learned her name- Kaia, though she goes by Ky. She had wild brown hair and stormy green eyes that were just barely human, a perpetual tan, and faint scars on her legs and arms as if gained from brambles. The scars across the pads of her palm though, those were from deals. She stopped wearing iron the day before she left, and she had an unsettling hum of energy around her after she came back, but she felt like a forest.
Ky’s little sister’s name was Luna. She was a changeling. She was an endearing little thing, and so, so, SO, chatty. Her Momma died, so Kaia has to look after her now, and Kaia looks like shes about to wilt under the stress. The Gentry didn’t favor very many people, but they had a hard time not collectively cooing over the pair. There were so few children at EU after all. Classes were very quickly rearranged so changelings could help with the little one, not that they would admit it.
Ky is terrified of the Gentry, but not enough to put the Iron back on and hurt her sister. She sets up a few rules around her sister, one for her and four for them. ‘Listen to them if they tell you something, do as they say, and be polite’ 'She is not allowed to be taken for more than 13 hours, if she’s out after bedtime (7:30) you get to keep her for the night and deal with the hellbeast that is a five year old fae on no sleep, Hurt her at thine own peril, and don’t feed her weird stuff.
Kaia graduated eventually, but when she left the entirety of The Gentry had an open invitation to The woods she guarded. Tap on the tall oak covered in creepers and hop three times and you would find yourself in the Lark woods, courtesy of Lady Kaia Lark herself, the warden of said woods, and one very chatty adolescent Fae.
Have a lovely samhain.
Not Their Land, Not Their Kind
When folks immigrated from the Old World to the New it was only natural that, due to the power of belief and curiosity, some of the Gentry went as well. They found the wilds, untouched and untamed, of this strange new world perfect for their homes and laid claim to whatever they pleased. They had not counted on the land already belonging to those who saw them as not but invading parasites. To the west the birds of thunder and the flesh eaters with an eternal hunger ruled. To the south the creatures of the lakes, water panthers and monsters of the deep, were kings. To the east the savage spirits of the trees and vengeance held sway. And in the frozen lands of the north, a giant wolf devoured any, human or Gentry, foolish enough to challenge him. When a girl came from the eastern shores of that strange land to Elsewhere, she came with the knowledge passed from an Irish grandmother. She came with respect for the crows and the good sense to keep her gaze down and to avoid certain places that hummed with unseen force. She wore no iron. Carried no salt. She bore no trinkets or charms of protection. And yet she walked freely as only a few could. The Gentry kept their distance from the girl with mismatched shoes and an Irish lilt to her words. This Canadian girl with Old World blood from a land where the Gentry had not been welcome. For she did not come alone. One of them, those ancient spirits who had refused to bow, who had refused to give up what was rightly theirs to invaders, had come with her. And, when it looked at the Gentry, it looked hungry.

Once, there was a person who valued themselves so little that all help was freely given.
Once, there was a book, kept beneath the old english building.
Once, there was a person who did not Know, who thought cruelty was humor.
They say that the value of an item is in the labor put into it. That an item that could be easily created that is instead made in the hardest, most painful fashion is inherently more valuable because of it. That blood and bone are just as valuable as gold and velvet in creating the richness of a work. That putting yourself into your work is the highest form of craftmanship.
Once, there was a person who played a prank on another.
Once, there was a bargain of the worst sort made.
Once, there was someone who didn’t hesitate to give their own life for something small.
They say that time passes differently in the library. That the flow of time could let someone could make a book in the span of three days and three nights. That the flow of time could someone could copy all the pages of an ancient tome in the span of three days and three nights. That maybe, just maybe, someone could find a way to do something more terrible than that.
Now, there’s a story whispered in the Library, of a book that was made there.
Now, there’s a story whispered in the dorms, of a prankster who was never seen again.
Now, there’s a story whispered in the Elsewhere, of a human who bargained with the Wyrm.
If you ever find yourself under the old english building, you may see a book. It is small, bound in blue velvet and clasped in ivory, lettered in gold leaf and rusty ink. Whatever your reason for visiting that place, whatever your plans or plots, you must never take that book with you. For it was given to the Wyrm, by one who gave so freely that they gave themselves up, and with the Wyrm it must forever stay.
Elsewhere UN Prompt: if you go onto the roof at night when the star Polaris is brighter than normal occasionally you'll meet a stranger with armor (that looks like iron)(but that's impossible for the stranger has to be fey) the stranger will not bargain nor will he trade in the usual things but if you're in danger or if you're friend has been stolen ... well you might just find something or someone waiting for you come day break if you talk to the armored stranger(after all stars get lonely too)
These people? They are mine, and you will not have them. You will not touch them with your silly games, your twisting tongues, your thin disguises. You will not touch them at all.
These people are mine, and you cannot take them. Your hands cannot grasp their flesh, nor their minds, and no harm will come to them, not from you.
I will protect my own, those who wish it, from your malicious and ill intended bargains, from your grasping claws, from your beady stares.
I am Iron, and I am Salt. These people are protected, and they are mine.
