quick little bag project

i really enjoyed making this, as it was quick and simple to do and turn out to be quite a nice bag. it made this following my own pattern.

i think it ended up being the perfect present for my little sisters birthday!

katie jones

katie jones is a knitwear designer that studied at st martins, i found her work quite inspiring as it is the same field as i want to go into , she uses alot of brightcolours and gets her inspiration from all around her, one of her collections was based on the day of the dead using sugar skull designs and bright colours to represent the idea.

When speaking with her it made me realise how much work doing handmade garments will be as a usuall day for her while doing a project is a 16 hour day of crocheting. another thing that it made me think about that was quite important was work experience as she had done quite alot and mark fast ended up giving her a job this way, which showed how making contacts and getting work experience was important.

Her BA project was based on tippees and their symbols and i was really impressed with the structure that she mangaged to get with the knit material as their was a tippee shaped garment which was really emphasised at the bottom, i also really liked katies process of how she comes up with ideas as it is quite organic and can come from anywhere.

One thing i particalularlly found helpful was the sketch book work as she would draw all the way through the book and she would also design from the start as well which i think might be a good way for me to expand my sketch books in future projects.

I really enjoyed katie coming to talk to us and i found it really helpful as she is a post gradutate student which helped us knowing how she managed the ba course but as she has also made headway in a professional enviroment, it is also helping us what to expect when we finish are degree and also telling us alot of tips on how to get job placements and how to stand out from all the other applicants.
