It’s a risky idea to create an animated children’s movie in which the two main characters the audience are supposed to sympathize with are not human and also do not speak. The title character, Wall-E, is essentially a box, so even he is limited in showing his emotions through body language. However, this is more than made up for with his sounds. Every beep and whistle, every mechanical whir and shake, create his awkward lovable persona. The sound design of this movie is so complex that it was definitely difficult to pin each little sound down onto one sheet. I decided to chose this particular scene because even though there is a background score, the real story is created through the sound effects. No real communicative words are even spoken until about half way through the movie, yet it successfully develops a deep relationship between these to mute robots.
