What do you appreciate most about your learning about web writing? 

I appreciate how there's never a "perfect" way to write on social media because it is always changing. Although, at first, it was frustrating, it now gives me a mind for creativity and analysis. I had to take a step back before writing and truly think about what I'm writing, for who, and in what context. Additionally, I appreciated the community aspect of this class. Even though we weren't in person, I still liked that we had to reblog other peoples' posts and get feedback from others. It was interesting to hear what other peers had to say.

What do you appreciate most about your learning about web writing?

I appreciated that the class showed me that web writing isn’t just about what is said but it is also about the design, the timing, structure, platform, ect. It gave me a new perspective of writing as being creative but also strategic. It helped me understand how much thought goes into content.

I really like how you described web writing as both creative and strategic, that's a really good way to put it. I used to think writing online was just about getting the message across, but this class definitely opened my eyes to how much design, timing, and platform matter too. It's cool to see how much behind the scenes thought goes into content we usually scroll through so quickly. I’m glad this class helped you see writing in a new light because it did the same for me!

I’m proud of how much more confident I am in my writing now. The detailed feedback we got on every assignment helped me actually see my growth from draft to draft. Before, my writing process was kind of messy, and I'd just hope for the best. Now I feel like I have a real structure. I worked out a lot of bad habits thanks to this class and honestly feel way more prepared for future writing projects.

HI Fallon! I really relate to what you said about feeling more confident in your writing! It's amazing how much structured feedback can make a difference. It’s also great that you can actually see your growth from draft to draft; that kind of progress is something everyone needs to be a better writer. I also used to have a pretty unorganized process, so I get what you mean about just hoping for the best! It sounds like you’ve built some really strong habits that will definitely help in future writing projects.

Where will you adjust your writing process based on your experiences in this class? 

Now that I have taken this class, I will begin to figure out the audience I will be writing for, as well as, the content and context of the platform. The class has really helped me identify how I can look at a platform and all of the attributes of it and write geared towards the information architecture, and the overall purpose of the message. I’ve learned that writing isn't just about what I want to say, but how to shape it so it fits the expectations, layout, and tone of the space it’s in, whether that’s a website, social media, or another digital platform. I will continue to draft and do more drafting and peer editing before I post the final version.

What are you most proud of with your writing assignments in this class, this semester?

I am most proud of how much detail and brain power I used for some of these assignments. I feel like the more the semester went on, the more detailed and creative I got. I also became more confident in my voice and took more risks with how I structured and expressed my ideas. Looking back, I can really see how my writing grew in both depth and originality.

What questions do you have about web writing that will help you after you finish this course?

The final assignment is questions that interviewers may ask in an interview. My major is Early Childhood Education. What are more specific questions that you think principles and administrators may ask me in an interview as a new teacher coming out of college. How could I use my skills from this class in an interview? I know I use technology in the classroom all the time, but how can I use web writing rhetorical analysis in the classroom and/or in an interview?

I'm not sure if this is what design choice you're looking for, but I always have been interested in the design that leaves create. They always have unique designs like snowflakes. I think it's cool how many things in nature are alike. For example the veins in leaves look like the same veins in humans and animals or maybe even like lightning.

Share a section of your design project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise?

I added an example of my show cancellation post from the tv studio. I don’t know if it looks polished and professional like it would if an actual stdio. Also are the words too hard to read? Do you have any suggestions to make it look more professional/ scroll stopping?

Hi! My suggestion would be to have a solid color in the background, that way the words are more clear to read. You could make the background picture you have now as the second picture in the carousel. What generator did you use? This looks so real!

A show detail that is upsetting my audience is an unfinished ending. The fictional series O have created is a long running series ending after 15 seasons. It has a large loyal fan base with emphasis on a lot of character relationships. Some of which people have been waiting for years to come together. A sudden ending where some of these pairings may not have come to fruition has upset viewers. Specifically, they are directing their concerns to the production company of Favorite Show.

If I was a fan of this show I'd be mad too! I really like the idea that you created about why fans are upset about the show cancelling. It's so frustrating when shows are cancelled when there's so much build up and character development.

Share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled.

The show that I loved a few years ago was The Society . It only had one season and then was shut down because of COVID and unfortunately never picked back up. The show was a Netflix teen drama/thriller series where a group of teenagers in a rich town had to form their own society after the rest of the towns' population disappeared. The show had themes of survival, power, and social structures as the main characters grappled with the disappearance of their parents and the challenges of creating a new world. RIP The Society.

I never watched The Society but now I kinda want to check it out! I hate when Netflix leaves shows hanging like that, especially when people are super into it and then it’s just gone.

Also, side note, this totally reminded me of that early 2000s reality show Kid Nation, which was absolutely insane. They literally had kids split into factions trying to take care of themselves and run a town with no adults around. I know it’s not the same vibe, at all, as The Society, but just thinking about kids being left to figure everything out made me think of it. Still can’t believe that show was real lol.

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom? 

My show is based on quite a few of my favorite pieces of media as well as other things I enjoy in general. Some of the main media(s) I drew heavy inspiration from were movies like Lord of the Rings, shows like Frieren and Game of Thrones, and Manga like Berserk. This was not only because I had creative freedom and wanted to create something I enjoyed but also because it helped me narrow down other parts of my project. Since I created media I myself, would be an audience member of, this helped me produce things like the audience analysis, and how fans would react on social media to its cancelation.

One of my all-time favorite shows is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Loving this show has definitely helped me understand angry fandoms more, especially in the adult animation space. Even though Sunny isn’t animated, the humor is just as dark and ridiculous, and a lot of fans cross over between the two. What I’ve noticed is people get super defensive about these shows, like if someone criticizes the characters or the jokes, fans flip out and act like it’s a personal attack. Working on this project, I see how fandoms can turn toxic fast when people can’t tell the difference between satire and reality. It’s like, the characters are supposed to be terrible. That’s the humor.

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie -- how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?

One of my favorite shows is Stranger Things, and it really helps me understand angry fandom and how fans react when something they love changes. When characters were killed off, relationships shifted, or the plot started to move away from what made the show great, fans flooded social media with frustration and disappointment. Some even made petitions or vowed to stop watching. Their reactions weren’t just about being mad but they were emotional because they felt connected to the story and its characters. That kind of passion helps me see both sides: the fans who feel hurt or betrayed, and the creators or network who have to respond thoughtfully without making the situation worse.

If I have my fake posts on Tumblr, can I just screenshot the post before I post it and turn that in? This way I'm not actually posting fake news to Tumblr.

Also can you expand on what you mean by "include connective elements so these posts connect with audiences." I understand we should revise out posts after your feedback and then also make them look like real posts, but I don't quite know what you mean by the statement above.

This is well designed for someone like me who likes to cross their legs a lot. This is a criss cross chair. I like working on this chair because I can be in a comfortable position, it can be adjusted height-wise, and it has wheels so it moves and swivels. This is a well designed piece of furniture.

What is upsetting audience members....

In the first season of my show, characters become stuck in an escape room for hours, and no outside source is reachable. The characters must fight to find a way out, and they think they do until the door they entered through has concrete behind it and is infested with bugs. After trying every possible thing, one character, Ally, falls through the floor. Her friends must go down to save her.. Could this be a way out? The group walks through these tunnel passages in a cave beneath what they thought was an escape room. As they pass by rotting corpses, they see a shadowed figure run down the path ahead and hide against a wall, up against the decaying bodies and bones. They cover their mouths to stay as silent as possible. Then they hear distant chanting and footsteps approaching. (episode end) After this episode, as fans waited patiently for the next season, what would happen to the group? Are they still going to be trapped in the tunnels beneath the ground? Who is this shadowed figure? They will never know, as the show was cancelled because of conflict among staff members. Now, fans are very angry because some of them grew to love these characters and tagged along in the pursuit to see if they will ever escape. This show ends on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

That’s such a crazy setup! The escape room turning into underground tunnels with rotting corpses, creepy chanting, and that shadowed figure is such a good mix of suspense and mystery. It’s one of those moments where you’re waiting for what's gonna happen next and then, BAM, the show gets canceled right after a huge cliffhanger! Fans are definitely going to be super mad, especially after getting so invested in these characters and wondering what happens to them. I can totally see why people would be upset about never getting closure on all those questions. Good job!
