PLEASE HELP MY SON

Premature birth is the number one killer of young children worldwide.

Despite the expectation of a hopeful and joyful pregnancy, things don’t always go according to plan. Sometimes the overwhelming wonder of having a new baby is reduced to just wondering if the baby will survive. Sometimes the hope a parent feels for their child’s success, happiness, and future turns into simply hoping the baby will be able to leave the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Sometimes the dream of possibilities turns into a nightmare.

My son Julian was born September 10, 2016, at only 26 weeks gestation. He weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces and was 13.75 inches long. As a result, he will spend over three months in the NICU to help him grow and stay alive. 

After almost 3 months in the hospital, Julian is soon to be discharged and Andrew and I are looking forward to finally bringing him home. While we don’t have a clear picture of what Julian’s future may hold, we do know one thing — Julian’s medical bills will be expensive: estimated to be at least $3000 a day.

This is a tough post… I apologize if anyone is offended by the graphic images. Edward got attacked by two pitbulls while she and the pitbulls were on leash. The owner of the pitbulls hit my mom with his car as she was trying to get his information. Luckily, my mom is doing fine. We only got a partial plate and the man got away before we got his information. Edward had surgery this morning and she’s doing fine. She’s staying with my mom for a few weeks while she recovers and goes in for check ups with our vet. She should be at home with her later today. Our vet is a an angel and he is covering the cost of her bills as what he calls a baby gift to me. I hadn’t told him this but I recently got put on maternity disability. Not having to stress about these bills was beyond anything I could ask for. I’m trying to focus on the kindness of all the people who have helped during this super difficult time. How many vets would cover the cost of a surgery. I feel so fortunate to have my mom take care of Edward, to have police and witnesses who helped out, and to have a god send of a vet. I feel so lucky that Ed is going to be just fine because it could have been so much worse.
