Hi people! Been awhile, gimmie updates who died
Three years laterđ
â¨Spoilersâ¨
-The 8th book is a shit-show. Lilly and Rikkard are pirates. With my guess, they've been pirating up until Lilly's 9th month of pregnancy. they come back to london with a kid they found on the pirate ship and just leaves her at a factory as chief toy tester and we don't get to know what happens to her after that for the entirety of the series. the book ends with Rick getting a letter that his dad is going to force Adaira to marry some french dude who "tried to kill Lilly and Rick" which caused them to be pirates in the first place and with Lilly's water breaking.
-9th book is honestly tolerable. just kidding. Opens with Lilly giving birth, the baby isn't crowning, lilly is under anesthesia still conscious, doctors don't know anything so Rick get his hands dirty. I mean that literally. That man puts his hand inside her (yup đ) and flips the baby. According to him, he's got plenty of experience birthing cows in farm he use to work atđ. It's a boy, YAY! A week later, they head to Battlewood(yes just a week after her giving birth) to save Adaira. Rick's brilliant plan was to declare Victor Linton, AKA Lilly as a man, and Adaira is in love. So now the entire book is post-partum Victor/Lilly(how the women is not utterly exhausted from her birth giving needs to be studied) having a Macho-out with the French dude, because she wants him dead for trying to sink her while she was pregnant, only to find out he actually wants to marry Adaira and not faking his love to get to Rick and never actually tried to kill them, it was dogleash(obviously) tricking them into believing it was the french dude. then Rick's dad was like you either become the next Marquess(which is bad bcs the rich white nobles back then were not allowed to have jobs bcs working is a lower class thing, hence Rick cannot have a business empire) or he'll force Adaira to marry who ever he says bcs she's not of age yet and he has authority over her. But Rick says fuck you and now Adaira can inherit the title(apparently women could inherit titles) so grandpa Ambrose does not want to marry her off to a rando but he'll still do it. So Adaira runs away and hence forth we go to the next book. Also the baby starts talking. that guy is 3 weeks old and he talks... his first words are "papa gimme mon-nee". No joke. Oh, and Lilly and Rick does the hanky-panky even if its only been a few weeks since she gave birth :)
-10th book they go to india bcs Adaira left lilly a letter saying she's off to find Captain Carter bcs they love each other (yea they interacted for 5 minutes in the 6th book and they started sending each other letters.) and he's stationed in india. this book we get POV from Adaira and James Carter (this book is so shit btw). Adaira tries to join the army, dressed as a man only to get called a chest-hairless noodle boy, but she's desperate to get to india. while Rick prepares for the india trip, lilly looks for a governess(nanny) and put ads out with "Yo i need some nans to take care of my money munching baby. we going to the land that our ppl are colonizing". Adaira sees the ad not knowing it was lilly, gets cuaght, makes lilly promise to never tell rick, lets her be in disguise while lilly lies to rick that adaira is till not found, in the yacht they took to india rick discovers nanny is actually adaira, tries to turn yacht around, he sees adaira's letter to carter and says "uh fine we'll rescue him from the revolution in india that i set off". Oh yea, rick set of a revolution in India by revealing dogleash army has bullets greased in cow and pig fat, so that would mean this book is taking place around 1852-1853 (the first book is 1839). I cannot tell you how much I was enraged at having a real incident be portrayed in this book as a side plot to bring tension between the main characters. I could punch the author in the face :) anyway, Adaira now has Lilly's personality and carter is a flirty weirdo. Ah yes, last but not least, if i'm not wrong lilly, rick, and adaira does brown-face and wear indian mens clothes to disguise themselves. Rob writes it off the brown-facing as "them getting a fake tan to fit in". the reason i'm sure they are brown-facing is bcs rob describes indians as tanned peopleđ¤Ąđ¤Ąđ¤Ą. I'm still in the process of finishing the book.
As much as I hate the series, reading them at my peek teenage depression era made it my guilty pleasure. I hate that I like reading a book that had actual plot, eventually become a shell of fan service that is not even historically accurate as the author wants to make it to be.
Yours truly,
An avid Hater and lover of storm and silence painfully trying to finish reading it to get some closure :)
