All right people, that's enough. My Momma is Black, My Daddy is White and for the purpose of this post that's all you need to know.
Stop wrecking others people's cars, that won't bring him justice
Stop breaking into stores, that won't stop hate
Stop harassing Good cops for what a few Bad cops do, that won't stop the fear
Stop setting fires, that won't bring us peace
I don't care how angry you are at me, this post, or this world. STOP
Sit down next to that woman of color at the bus stop, ask her name, help her with her bags.
Sit down in your courthouses and public meeting places and don't leave until someone says they'll do something to help find justice
Sit down at your kitchen table with your friends and children and ask them what they think
Sit down at your places of worship and pray for peace
Sit down and decide now, not tomorrow, today, now, what you will do if you see injustice taking place
Sit down and vote with your voice and, more importantly, your money for those who fight against hate in the courtrooms
Sit down and turn off the flood of information coming from everywhere and Make your own decisions, make up your own mind
Sit down like Rosa Parks and do not move
To quote Teddy Roosevelt, a white president, "speak SOFTLY, and carry a big stick"
Calm, quiet, organized, and civil protests will pack more power than a pipe bomb or drunken rabble ever will.
Is the guy who sells ice cream down the road a blatant racist? Don't buy his ice cream.
Is that crazy woman you met on FB posting hate, unfriend her
Go to the places you know support equality and spend your time there, invite Mama Odie who you met at the bus stop along, I'll bet she has some amazing stories and makes the best Mac and cheese you've ever eaten.
Because until you get to know someone, you'll fear them simply because they are different it's han nature. So fight it.
Play basketball with those Latin kids at the park
Fist bump the cop on the corner
Wave at the Muslim family across the road
Smile and say thanks to the bagger with the pink hair and rainbow flag pin
Only when we can pass by a person on the street and see them as human, not black, white, or any other color, religion, or gender can we finally hold hands across that nation and sing "free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last."
Thank you for reading my rant, have a lovely day.
