Backstories

Noé: we get 90% of his backstory in one chapter

Vanitas: it takes 7 chapters, three omakes, a contract with a demon, tears of a stranger, and a few cookies

Okay, so I don’t know why I was so slow on the uptake here but it just now occurred to me that Noé is telling Vanitas that he will “save him without fail.” Bit late to add this realization to either of my character studies but it sure does explain this expression from Vanitas:

He clearly wants to protest at first but I think Vanitas actually would like someone to genuinely help him. That smile implies to me that he doesn’t quite believe it’s actually a possibility but that someone is willing to try is already touching in a way he had never anticipated.

So.

I found out about Vanitas no Shuki late Sunday night after seeing some fanart on Tumblr and instantly got curious. So, I chose to read it. As I have read one of Mochizuki’s other works (Pandora Hearts; the ending made me cry like a bitch), I could tell that this series was going to be good.

So far, I’m not disappointed.

The plot is interesting and may I just say that I absolutely adore Noé and Vanitas?

Well, anyhow, I read this manga into the wee hours of the morning and just like with Pandora Hearts, I was hooked. Like, besides a select few mangas out there, this one hooked me and kept me hooked. I love how Noé and Vanitas interact with one another (did I mention that I ship them?)

Like, I just can’t enough of these two…

So far, Vanitas no Shuki has a score of 100/10 in my book and I can’t wait for the next chapters to get uploaded!
