I think the saddest thing about adult/working life is that youâre forced to spend your days around people you barely like or care about, but you have such little time left for the ones you really love. You see your shitty co-workers all day every day but your best friend and your family and your lover get the tired, deflated, de-energised scraps of you at the end of the day/week.

I love this persons work lmao

I hate this âno spoilersâ culture that we live in right now. Producers and writers are so terrified of fans predicting the ending to their works to the point that theyâre making nonsensical endings to their narratives. Theyâre messy, out-of-character, and outlandish, but, hey! at least theyâre unpredictable!
Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi â completely ignored & disregarded the 3-film narrative arc J.J. Abrams has planned out for the sequel trilogy, and instead developed his own messy narrative full of subversions for the sake of subversion, and completely disrespected the legacy of Luke Skywalkerâs character (Mark Hamill himself has reported several times that he doesnât recognize the character).
Russos, MCU â give out fake scripts, actors play against green screens and are cut & pasted together in post, show fake/edited scenes in trailers, throw away previous character development (Thor, Ragnarok vs Infinity War and especially Endgame).
D&D, Game of Thrones â throw away a decade of foreshadowing and character development for shock value, not to mention they missed a whole ass Starbucks cup in a shot in 8x03 (either on set or in post, somebody shouldâve noticed this).
Iâm sick and tired of this. Itâs not good writing, and itâs no longer entertaining to fans when the characters they know and love become complete strangers. Thereâs good shock value â âNo, I am your father,â for example â and then thereâs ignoring years of character development and turning a kind and caring character into a murderous maniac. Thereâs a difference, and I think writers still know what that difference is, but theyâre pressured to create an ending that fans canât predict because of this mass panic over âno spoilersâ.
This needs to stop. Give me a happy ending. Who the fuck cares if we guess what comes next? That means the writers have done their fucking jobs. If we can guess what comes next that means the writers have successfully developed their characters and foreshadowed future events as youâre supposed to do in a well-written narrative.
No spoilers? Sure. I like to experience narratives without being spoiled. But donât make the narrative unrecognizable by the ending. Itâs just not good writing.
Oh this is some good tea âïž
@darkfannibal
Well said! I completely agree.
âNo spoilersâ should apply to people that have already seen content giving specific details of how something happens. It shouldnât apply to overarching plot points that have been building for years that weâve seen coming bc you made it that way. You donât have to subvert expectations every time. Sometimes youâve built up great expectations for something. Why subvert that for shock value and give us something shitty? Just so we didnât guess right? When we werenât guessing, but reading into years of well planned and thought out content?
Why have I been laughing at this for a solid 5 minutes?
it is so funny how life is just whatever. itâs hilarious. life is so regimented all the way through high school and then after that you just do literally whatever itâs all just whatever. youâre like âshould i do this?â and everyone you know is like âjust do whateverâ absolutely incredible. that canât be real
genuinely enjoying and being okay with watching someone play video games rather than playing it yourself is younger sibling culture.
This might be my favorite post hahaha
I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD YO BECAUSE DONâT THEY KNOW ITâS SUPPOSED TO BE THERE???
You are alive and have witnessed the first blackhole to ever be seen in human history.
âMy cousin Helen, who is in her 90s now, was in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. She and a bunch of the girls in the ghetto had to do sewing each day. And if you were found with a book, it was an automatic death penalty. She had gotten hold of a copy of âGone With the Windâ, and she would take three or four hours out of her sleeping time each night to read. And then, during the hour or so when they were sewing the next day, she would tell them all the story. These girls were risking certain death for a story. And when she told me that story herself, it actually made what I do feel more important. Because giving people stories is not a luxury. Itâs actually one of the things that you live and die for.â âNeil Gaiman
