——————× “I just got a little caught up in traffic s’all. I thought I told you not to wait up.” Graverobber tried to make that last bit sound cold and stern, but he couldn’t find it in him. Instead, he flashed her that signature crooked grin and closed the door behind him before striding into the living room of the shabby little apartment. The genuine concern he heard in her voice was what stopped him. This, of course, only proved what he had been trying so hard to deny- — despite how much he snapped and became annoyed with the girl, she was beginning to grow on him.
Not deterred by any signs of anger in his voice, Shilo stood from her spot and walked towards him. She knew he didn't mean it, not anymore at least. They had been through to much to still have him get truly angry at her. Besides, all she had done was wait up for him. "I know you did, I just didn't think you'd be this long. Are you sure it was just traffic?" One thin eyebrow slid upward at her question, signalling she didn't quite believe him. He wasn't one to use any sort of transportation anyways, besides the dump truck on occasion so traffic? It didn't seem like a likely reason, but she'd go with it for now if he decided not to fill her in on the truth. Perching herself gingerly on the old couch he had though, her eyes followed his movements, hoping that she could figure out what held him up just by looking at him.
"Are you sure? I’m sure it won’t be too difficult to get you a new copy." As soon as those words leave him, his mouth shuts and tightens into a hard line. That might not be true, necessarily. Books were increasingly hard to come by, being that the industrialization of the planet has decreased the population of trees, thus extinguishing the use of real paper. He doesn’t want to get her hopes up, but on the other hand he doesn’t want to let her down.
"Is there.. Any other book that you want to read?" He hastens to ask, desperate to fill the gaps of silence, thus preventing any guilt to render him unreasonable. "I can look for anything you want me to. I’ll go out and look after work tomorrow, I promise." He watches her eye the ruined text with longing and softens his expression. How he longs to see her smile. She has a pretty smile, just like her mother’s.
Thinking over his suggestion briefly, Shilo sifted through her thoughts. There were so many things that she was interested in reading about - but knowing that paper was rare to come by these days it would be difficult to find no matter what it was. Could she really just list off a title or two and hope he found what he was looking for? It was highly unlikely. So with a shrug, the slender girl sat beside her father on the edge of the bed.
"Really it's nothing to worry about. Though if you were to go looking -" She paused, unsure of which tale to tell him. Then it came to her. "If you could find something adventurous that would be perfect. Something where the hero much go on a journey, I love those so." Her lips twitched upward at the idea, but didn't turn into a full smile. The last thing Shilo wanted to do was make him think it was the one thing that would make her happy. He'd never stop until he found it. But thinking back to world travels and far off places already had her mind spinning. What she wouldn't give to be like the characters in her favorite novels.

Please only reblog if you have a Repo!verse.

( he could hear her heartbeat and rapid breathing from a mile away. he could always go and take out whatever predator it was that was chasing her, but instead chose to help her, first. so, (and he probably shouldn’t have) sneaking up behind her crouched down (& making as much noise as possible), he tapped her on the shoulder, golden irises trailing back and forth in front of them, being sure that nothing (else) would sneak up on either of them, especially not repo man. attention turning back to the girl, he tapped her once more, this time a bit harder; she probably didn’t feel the first one. )
❛ hey — kid. ❜
Jumping in freight as his voice spoke up so close to her, Shilo turned quickly - pulling out the closest thing to her hand from her bag. It wasn't much of a weapon, but holding the object out in front of her like a sword, she grimaced when she noticed what it was. A pen. Great, that would surely help her survive. But still she held it out, just in case.
❝What do you want?!❞
How p e r f e c t is this?
He takes the book from her when she offers it to him and he tilts it to examine the bulk of the pages between the covers without opening it. The mass was wavy, which prompts him to set the book down in his lap so he can flip open the cover and turn the pages. It takes some effort for him to unstick the pages from each other, as they’ve dried so peculiarly. The ink is blurry and runny, and as he brushes his fingertips over the words, he feels that the texture of the paper is gritty.
"No, Shi," he murmurs after closing the book and looking up at her with troubled eyes. "I don’t think that I can fix this. I’m sorry." The book is beyond his repair. It’s disappointing, he was really hoping that he’d be able to make it better for her, after locking her in her room and preventing any opportunity to fix it before the damage became permanent. He knows how much this book means to her. "I can get you a new one, if you’d like, to make up for this."
"I don't want you to do that." Her response was quick, but still downhearted in tone. Shilo knew he would buy one if she asked, but it hadn't been his fault. She was to blame and as much as she wanted to read it again at some point, she didn't want him to clean up her messes. That wasn't very fair. So taking the book from him gently, her fingers brushed against the spine. Even though it was ruined, she couldn't get rid of it. It meant to much to her to just be thrown away.
"I've read it plenty of times anyways." With a slight shrug, she attempted a smile. It wouldn't do any good to continue being sad over such a thing and it would only prompt him to buy a new replacement for her anyways. Shilo turned as set the book down, with one final longing glance. "Maybe it's time I move onto a new book."

Crying about the well written Devil's Carnival fan fiction I just finished reading. <3
He looked at her and raised an eyebrow at her words. He chuckled a little. True he has to admit that her figure had always impressed him but the snake demeanor had always allowed him to hide his feelings and emotion. “Don’t you know that it’sss not wissse to tempt a sssnake little Wick?”
"Don't you know by now Twin that I don't care much for what is wise? I only care about what is fun, and right now? You're starting to bore me." With a quiet huff of annoyance now, she crossed her arms. He really was starting to turn her off of the idea of playing games with him. Clearly he wasn't going to play along as well as she had hoped. Perhaps the Scorpion would be willing to entertain her. "Though I can tempt you as much as i damned well please, thank you very much. I wear this for a reason you know."
