for those that, like me, have no idea what this is referring to:

january 8, 2011, Gabrielle Giffords and several other government officials were attacked at an open forum in Tuscan. Her husband, Mark Kelly, was given false information that she had died in the shooting, but soon learned that she survived.

Mark Kelly is a senator from Arizona, and during the January 6th nazi riots, Giffords was in the same position of concern for her husband’s safety.

She wasn’t simply attacked, or a government official. She was a US congressswoman, meeting with her constituents, and she was shot by a right wing gunman. Six people, including a federal judge and a nine year old girl were killed. Gabby Giffords sustained brain trauma, from being shot point blank in the head, and had to spend years relearning how to walk and talk. Her husband, Mark Kelly, ran for senate in direct opposition to the right wing terrorist violence that nearly took his wife from him, and the kind that yesterday he himself faced.

Trump supporters who were endorsing the January 6th protest in D.C just a few hours and days ago, are now backtracking and blaming antifa for the actions of people in MAGA hats, QAnon shirts, and those waving Trump flags. Despite Proud Boys openly declaring attendance and plans to dress as antifascists, despite videos and photos of known Trump supporters in attendance, people who know no better are dismissing the violence as antifa infiltration.
