I’ve been playing Blue Prince obsessively for the past week and this is all I can think about:

Simon, a kid who has been wandering around his uncle’s empty mansion for 15+ days and has not interacted with another living soul for that entire stretch of time, who just thought it would be neat to see what happened if he put a coin in the old fortune-teller machine and is now being assaulted with irl visions: *incoherent screaming*

Really appreciating the pivot this game is taking from "Plucky kid solving fun puzzles in a crazy magic house to win his eccentric old great-uncle's inheritance" to "We live in a fascist state and my family is a member of the aristocracy, the history books in the library are redacted, my mother wrote thinly veiled politically charged children's books under a pseudonym to distance herself from her family but she has since gone missing, which in hindsight makes sense as to why I, this like 10-15 year old boy, am the sole beneficiary of this old man's will. There's also a bunker in the yard so we apparently live under threat of nuclear annihilation"

I bought the game to play it during my holiday break, and I've been obsessed with it every since. It has everything I love: an old (seemingly) sentient house, puzzles, symbolism, exploration, mystery, a slightly scary vibe, and layers and layers of lore. I haven't finished the game yet, and I don't think I'm even close. The story is so deep and so detailed, and the way the game lets you unravel its secrets is expertly done.

So this is my spoiler-free love letter to Blue Prince. I can absolutely recommend falling into this rabbit hole.

This game is really great at making you feel clever when you figure things out on your own, until it doesn't so you turn to google and then you realize you don't have the smarts nor knowledge in the language of puzzles to play this game 🫠
