The most important message in Venom 2 tho is exactly what Venom says at the club.

Society shouldn't make people who are different feel so unsafe they have to hide or be kept hidden by their loved ones.

Venom and Eddie ultimately both want to protect each other (and themselves) but they have different approaches at the beginning.

Venom wants to be out, proud and fighting for what's right. Eddie is scared and wants Venom to stay hidden (closeted, basically).

Venom wants freedom. Eddie wants peace. The thing is they both should be able to have both, but ya know, society says no.

It's obviously a very queer narrative.

If the world allowed them to be free and to be themselves, they wouldn't have to fight like this.

And that's what's shown at the end. They have to basically leave society and runaway somewhere they can be free, and you can see them be finally happy and at peace there.

Here’s what I said on twitter about this (cleaned up for tumblr):

I don’t think the film is erotic in its themes/plot/etc but - the way it’s presented is very…affectionate? toward Gawain/Dev Patel, like the camera shots themselves are in love w him. I feel the film makers knew what they were working with wrt Patel, and used that to push their themes.

Patel is a beautiful person and iirc the cast is on record saying so. The lingering shots of not only Gawain’s body but other characters stroking his cheek, kissing him, brushing his hair back - even him sleeping alone. not all inherently ‘erotic’ but they’re all vulnerable, tender acts. It makes you root for Gawain. the characters, the camera, the film is rooting for him, even tho Gawain is in most respects a shitty person in his actions/demeanor. There’s dissonance in who he is and what the characters/camera/you hope him to be, or could be.
