My least favorite things about anti- UBI discourse is always the techbros whining that "nobody is going to work anymore! People will just watch Netflix all day!" and I have 2 responses:

1) Who the fuck cares. Who the fuck cares what people do with their time! That's kind of the fucking point!

2) People aren't going to stop laboring. Housework (look, it's right there in the word!) will still need to be done. So will maintenance on our homes and personal spaces. Children will still need carers, as will the elderly and disabled. There are millions of examples of ~work~ that we do all the time, uncompensated, that won't suddenly stop because we aren't forced to sell our labor to provide corporation's profits.

I'm not surprised that what is traditionally women's work is invisible to these dipshits, but it never fails to anger me.

Field studies have been conducted in several countries now, and the result is always the same - people will just flop about for a couple of months to recover from the burnout most people who have a job live with, and then they look for something to do. Some get a job with reduced hours, and some start doing charitable stuff like volunteering in soup kitchens and teaching others to do whatever their particular skill is. They socialize more, they are happier, and on average, people will work more, not less.

But the thing is, employers suddenly have to think about how to make their jobs appealing enough for someone to come and do them! It's hard to find someone to work for you for long hours under horrible conditions, if they can just choose not to; which shows you how voluntary our current system actually is.

The US is detransitioning prisoners and just announced that ICE can detain trans people on suspicion of visa fraud. The UK just banned all care for trans kids and is now conducting an "evidence review" into HRT for trans adults and now the biggest DIY HRT web resource just went down.

Trans people need to learn solidarity yesterday, we need to be ready to organise together and set aside anything that we need to in order to get our shit sorted out. Cis people need to take it seriously that the fascists are trying to completely extinguish transess from existence

One immediate step you can take if you're tech literate is try to personally back up as much DIY information from the internet as possible. We need to confront the fact that the internet is American dominated and primarily American-owned and in a larger sense owned and operated by capital primarily. For the informational resources of the internet to benefit human beings we have to deliberately make choices to structure it that way, and in the age of Palantir that largely means thinking about parallel informational infrastructure, setting up another internet or at least other communication systems.

If we want to preserve life saving information, information that aligns with reality over fascism information that is useful, beautiful and true to human beings and ugly and inconvenient to capital, first we have to make backups

Im still getting likes on this and the occasional rb so I wanted to elaborate. I don't think that the "real punk" attitude would be to just flip the above around. You can be a punk and like kittens and cuddles and dislike sex. You can be a punk and like sex but dislike kittens and cuddles. Because punk isn't stored in your off topic likes or dislikes, it's stored in the music and the community. I listen to a lot of punk music but like very non stereotypical punk things, that does not mean that every interest of mine is punk, or that I'm suddenly not a punk because I have other interests. Not everything I like has to be punk just because I'm apart of the subculture. Warrior Cats, Leverage, Animal Jam, Fallout, Spy x Family, Breath of the Wild, The Librarians, none of that is fucking punk!!! They're books and shows and video games that have nothing to do with the subculture because not all of my interests have to revolve around the music I like or where I like to go to hang out or who my friends are!!!!
