Okay no one asked but I was talking it over with friends this weekend while I worked on a fic and here's my current take on Lara Croft

Like - classic Lara of course has the vibe of a seasoned and well-versed freak. Has done and tried everything under the sun in every combination, knows what she likes, is comfortable going after it. Haven't played those games yet, can't speak on it in depth but that's the vibe the sort of wry humor and swagger are giving off to me

Survivor Lara however? She has NOT had the luxury of a lot of time and space to really nail that shit down. She's been getting impaled with rebar, dude. She's been soaking her open wounds in stagnant water and getting every disease..She's been tromping around in freezing conditions in a tank top and cauterizing her own wounds and stabbing wolves to death with arrowheads. She's been RELICS > relationships. Grappling hooks > hookups.

That's not a woman who's had time to go to a kink club okay. She's never even heard of FetLife. She's mourning a minimum of two father figures at a time and if she's not catatonic with grief she's probably scrambling up a cliff face and/or trying not to get shot to death on a mountain. She's IN THE TOMBS.

There IS a freak in there, I believe that, but she's buried deep under layers and layers of 'i don't have time to think about that, I'm in the middle of my 18th small aircraft crash'

So - I think for a while she's just like a needy service top who likes to get her bruises pressed on and doesn't really think about it much beyond that.
