So we all know that Sarge was in the UNSC before he was assigned to the Red Team, but we don’t really know too much about the others. I’ll belie the Low Test scores on Simmons, Grif, Donut, and Tucker, but Caboose is a huge mystery to me. Even if there was a compulsory draft, and the soldiers were sorted from there, Caboose with his shaky connection to reality doesn’t seem like someone who would typically be kept around.
What we do know about Caboose is that he has incredible physical strength, which goes beyond even Tex. We have seen Caboose flip cars with ease and he lifted Andy the bomb with relative ease (at the point when no-one else could), and when they fought the Tex drones, tore through them like it was nothing (though Church was in control and making him angry, it was likely still Cabooses physical strength at work).
Which brings me to the point I am trying to make, what if Caboose (like Sarge) was previously involved in the military or their experiments? If they had been experimenting on him (to achieve super strength) and something went wrong, the UNSC wouldn’t have wanted to lose all of their progress, right? We saw how they were with Project Freelancer and wanting their equipment back. They wouldn’t have discharged Caboose and risked losing him, so they stuck him in a box canyon, under the Command of the former Freelancer Florida, alongside the Alpha AI/Church. Who are all people who the UNSC would not want to lose track of.
