Hello!
I’m Engiru, a highschooler webcomic artist. A few months ago I had an idea to start a project that combines the internet and fundraising (for real causes). I thought that if Loish can have such a successful Kickstarter and 4chan can make (startling) changes both inside and outside of the internet, then why not use those same powers for something bigger than all of us: causes such as world hunger, global warming, and such?
Now, you may be thinking: but nonprofits already do that! They have their own social media sites.
However, as I said, I am a webcomic artist, so most of my experience on the internet is with fandoms, artists, and other people who appreciate the arts. I know that this side of the web is generous and highly connected, as shown through Patreon and trend (i.e. Smug Wendy’s). I know that many of you are willing to take time out of your day to be creative and use that energy to make things you believe in (like maybe some Dream Daddy fanart?).
I believe that you have untapped potential and can make real differences in this world if you continually have some coordinated events; thus, I made The Internet Idiots, an organization that plans fundraisers that caters to this enormous group. Not saying that you guys haven’t made differences already, but really pulling all of you together would be…amazeballs. Even though I made it specifically for this side of the internet, it is not exclusive and others can join in too.
You can view the current (and our very first) fundraiser, its cause, and how the art aspect is going to work here (or the vid above):

As of right now, this project is in its fetus stage– I just publicized the fundraiser and organization on July 24th. Any help received during this stage (and any stage) would really kickstart this “internet-power” movement and for other future, similar fundraisers that combine social media and art. I made this organization with full acknowledgement that one day I might not have the time I have as a highschooler now to run things like this, and I hope that if this fundraiser is successful, future young artists or other creative persons would use the same methods (or something similar) to make even bigger differences than I’ve ever made.
I’ve already contacted many big artists or magnet names, but they either have not responded yet, or they have declined (granted, it’s only been 3 days). With that being said, thanks to my art buddies (who are [somehwat] famous) for helping me out so far > <!
As you decide whether or not you want to promote/ participate in this, I hope you can see that one day we can actually build a well in Africa together through doing what we love: meming. Art is a way to connect people and ideas in ways we can never describe, and I hope this fundraiser and organization accomplishes this as well with your help.
Nevertheless, if you ever decide that you don’t have time to participate, doing a quick sketch and/or simply clicking the share button means so much already.
You have a bigger impact on the art/ internet community than you really think.
Would you help make this meme a dream come true for Walking for Water?
