Lady Lesso x star!reader
Synopsis: At the school for good and evil, a star has fallen through the window of the assembly hall, still unaware of why she is here. Word count: 1k words a/n - errr this has been sitting in my arsenal..
The rare little streaks of light tore across the night sky. Some would gush at the sight, others would mock the mediocrity of it all. Shooting stars they’d call them. They would make a wish, close their eyes, and keep it a secret—believing it would never come true if spoken.
No one questioned why they appeared so frequently at the school.
Though, in this assembly hall…
SMASH
Little colourful shards blew inward through the air as her back collided with the stained glass of a neatly decorated window. She rolled, coughing as shards gnawed at her skin.
Air refused to come—then it came too fast.
“Ugh—fuck!” She jerked, light folding into a girl all at once.
She heaved and opened her eyes. The dim light filtered through the shattered innards of the window, revealing two women who stood by broken glass, lips parted in shock.
The first wore gold. She gingerly stepped closer, light catching caramel skin, blonde curls pinned into place. Her expression shifted between shock and curiousity.
"That's not how they arrive.."
Her voice was uneven.
The second one did not hesitate.
Black heeled boots struck the tiled floor, the sound echoing off of the walls. A flick of her hand—the girl's breath caught in her throat.
Purple wisps snapped into existence, striking the girl before she could move. They lashed and coiled around her body, slamming her into a nearby chair, the wood wracking under her.
The girl retched, lungs burning and muscles taught.
"Who are you?"
"Lesso! You can't just—"
"She’s a threat, Clarissa."
The girl’s vision blurred at the edges during the back and forth, a strange pressure on the her neck.
Lesso didn’t look at Clarissa, her eyes studied the girl like a mistake. Red hair unruly and brazen against the tightness of her jaw.
"I asked you a question."
The girl’s voice was useless, her fingers twitched against what wasn’t there, instinctively for her neck. Lesso’s expression shifted slightly, her hand lowered a bit. Air came easier.
"Wait."
Clarissa, stepped forward, eyes fixed on the girl’s face. "Look at her."
"I am looking, Clarissa." Lesso snaps.
"She’s translucent!"
Lesso’s eyes never moved from the girl, but her brow twitched.
“I see that, Clarissa.”
Clarissa huffed, reaching out and pinching Lesso’s arm.
“You can’t solve everything with Evil, Lesso.” She said, placing a hand on her hip.
Lesso kept her eyes trained on the girl. The girl sheepishly smiled. Then Lesso turned her head and looked at Clarissa.
Almost reluctantly, the pressure on the girl’s neck eased. She gasped, her heart slamming against her rib cage to make up for the debt.
Lesso crossed her arms, silver nails slowly tapping on her arm—eyes averted from the girl, now at Clarissa.
“A better idea?” Her smile had no warmth in it whatsoever. “From you, Clarissa, I’d settle for one. Any idea. Besides that expression on your face—which I believe is hope and has never solved anything.”
She clasped her hands. “We know nothing about this girl. So unless your little blue birds have been doing reconnaissance, I suggest you close your mouth.”
Clarissa’s eye twitched, her smile a little late. “Well," her tone dipped. "I suppose you wouldn't have a better idea. You never do, dear. You just have louder ones."
The girl’s eyes flicked between them as she shifted in the chair. She had a feeling she was sitting in the middle of something very old.
Lesso didn’t look up. “Oh really, darling?”
Clarissa muttered under her breath, then glanced at the girl. She ignored Lesso as she knelt down to her. Her smile was patient.
“Can you tell us your name..?” The girl’s mouth opened. It came out in pieces. Clarissa’s expression stayed warm. Lesso, arms still crossed, did not look impressed. “Do you know you got here?” The girl looked at her own hands. Her knuckles shredded, and palms aching. Something tugged at her. The edge of her fingers blurred briefly—fractured light burst from them at angles that made no sense—before snapping back. She was breathing heavily, and pressed her hands flat against her thighs. Clarissa instinctively pulled back. Lesso stepped forward. The girl pursed her lips. “That’s—" “Normal.” Clarissa finished for her, smile unwavering—but her eyes briefly looked to the side at Lesso. The girl stared. She shifted slightly, pulling back. “I’m not sure, how I’m here.” “You’re not sure.” Lesso repeated, her tone flat. “Lesso.” “I merely repeated what she said, Clarissa.” Clarissa gave her a look. Lesso rolled her eyes, suggesting it wasn’t the first. The girl’s vision began to steady, the edges of the room sharpening back. She became aware of the gentle hands, unhurried, helping her on her feet.
“She’s clearly hurt..” Clarissa dusted off the girl's clothes, offering her a warm smile before glancing back. “We take her to the infirmary, have the fairies look over her and then we speak to the Headmaster.”
Lesso stared at her. “Unbelievable.” She turned sharply on her heel, striding to the door. “How delightful.” The corridor was long and poorly lit, windows showcasing the night sky every few steps. Clarissa walked in front, her gold dress trailing behind. The girl followed, steps steady, though her hand would constantly throb. Lesso walked behind them, not with them. She had been distant. The girl passed by a window as she had before. A streak of light tore across the sky, warmth radiating from it. A warmth that tugged at her chest. She stopped walking. Clarissa notices first, her brows knitting. Then Lesso, her eyes slightly narrowed. The girl looked down at her hands again. The yellow has passed her finger tips, now up to her arms. She tried to press her hands together. The light from them briefly bursted, twisting into random angles before she pulled them away. "Woah—" she chirped. Not in pain. Clarissa called to her. Her hands hovered near, careful not to touch as she was unsure if she would help or worsen it. The outline of the girl's shoulders blurred. Luminous yellow particles dusted off of her, the initial white light at her centre dimming. She was becoming remote. Lesso stood still, a few paces back with her arms crossed. Her jaw was set and her fingers no longer fidgeted. A wave of irritation flickers across her face, involuntarily—the girl hadn't answered her questions yet. Outside in the sky, the warm yellow burns out mid flight. The girl's form snaps back. White light flooded back to her, folded in by yellow that settled at the edges. She was here once more, she exhaled. Clarissa lowered her hand, finally breathing. Lesso uncrossed her arms, eyes glancing at the window before she walked past them. "Let's go." Clarissa glanced at Lesso as she brushed past, her mouth parting in question but sighed. The girl, however, stared out at the empty night sky, wondering what kept her anchored here. Still, she followed Clarissa.
