i heard this once on a podcast i listen to, and i checked, and it is on memory alpha.

in ds9 s1 ep16, originally miles o'brien was supposed to bring a leprechaun to life. colm meaney basically was like "you have to be fucking kidding me" and refused to appear on screen next to "caricatures and cliches."

good for him tbh! they changed it to Rumpelstiltskin, as we all know. the episode suffered zero. good call.

the writers just said FUCK IT. let's do it. and yes, we got "masks" and "subrosa" (both of which i love but recognize its quality)

but we also got "dark page" and "parallels" and "lower decks"

i'm just saying, don't sleep on that season. "all good things..." was GOOD, not in spite of but BECAUSE of the terrible old makeup.
