adult. beginner artist (started trying to draw seriously in early 2025!). mostly fanart sketches on traditional media. multifandom and idgaf. this is sideblog from @wormfoo. twitter is entitledtitle. i am the number one gqux hater
NO AI generation is used in creating my artwork. reminder, please have this blog setting turned ON please!
(this is probably going to be an irregular thing, though i'm hoping to post it every Saturday -- the first one is just an exception since i have too many progress screenshots cluttering my pc disk space lol.)
I've been suffering from just... really weird bad creative burnout (mainly in terms of my confidence in writing), alongside a bunch of personal things worsening that burnout, but i don't want to be a bumass like i was in the past couple of years LOL so i've been practicing and brushing up my drawing skills once again!
i've compiled a series of progress screenshots alongside a few notes about what i've learned, etc. and these will be in the cut below.
July 19th (+ a few days from the week previous):
my coloring is awfulll (and i flat out gave up on coloring ovid's face here lol) but i'm sharing it anyway in the hopes that future me will look back at this and die screaming laughing at it
mainly pose + face/neck practice sketches, and a sakuraba ema (from manasoba/magical girl witch trials) sketch, i'm pretty proud of the way i stylized the color for her hair (bc lazy and unskilled lol), i might try it again when i'm more confident with my colors + digital coloring.
the face above right of virgil is a study of a ikoku nikki panel (from ch.3 i think). the pose to the right is studying an eva01 model kit promo pic (i have it saved for a while in my pc art ref folder, i also drew it for practice last year but we don't talk about that)
the screenshot above of the virgil sketch has a combined layer of the sketch, my attempt at inking it lol, and a shading layer so it's pretty messy oops
3rd pic on 3rd row is the layer i drew on for the below screenshots
July 20
i think i cleaned it up a bit on the 21st? (see below) but well, oops horace's neck is still Like That lol so i'll have to fix that when polishing up the sketch in a bit.
got lazy and distracted while trying to figure out who i should draw for these head practices soo i haven't touched this layer in a bit. moving on
gave horace a short chopped hairstyle and made her butch bc i hatteee drawingn her hair omfg but honestly it made her hotter so its an okay tradeoff i think. (and inspired the chopped ovid scribble below) the text at the top left is referencing this tweet. up and right of chopped horace is a dante bust i forgot to give hair to (i am lazy). and the bottom trio is a scribble from memory of the ladies from hit indie game MESMALIE which i think you should play if you haven't already dear readers
July 22+3
the homer scribble, EEK okay her hairstyle was the easiest to draw for me i feel, but i got distracted and starting scribbling out the ovid sketch just below her, so homer's scribble is currently very rough...
the short hair chihaya anon is a quick redraw of a scribble i posted back in April 2025, though i redrew it based on my old drawing instead of using a character card for reference so it's still a bit wonky haha... as for the minos sketch, i was not intending to reference that meme but i realized the face position was crooked ...again... so i was like whatever man and drew the meme face for her
the enormous dragon shaped thing in the middle was just a warmup practice for my lines but i liked it so i left it there
the taki scribble screenshot below was intended to test out shading i could use for her hair
currently like this for now
actually i'm proudest of the ovid sketch here, came out unexpectedly nice, just need to color it now (but i'm afraid of ruining the whole thing)
gave her hansum jawline. AND chooped her hair off bc i don't like drawing it one bit
this one is from today (july 23)
i used this image as reference for the sakiko pose at the bottom there (i've been meaning to draw her in that pose for a while now but i was super unskilled and still am) but i'm not sure what's going on with her face so i'm hoping some time away from the canvas will give me clarity... i hope... anyways, i was sort of bumming around a bit (and ofc i decided to write up this post) so i didn't really draw too much on this layer. oops..
Love's Young Dream, an otome visual novel, is out now!!! 💗🪶🧺🦊
(I was the character artist working with a team of several other talented people!!!)
Summary:
The Ashbrook family has always been born beneath an unfortunate star. They aren’t destined to lose their lives at sea, nor lose their fortunes to disaster, however. They are only doomed to lose their first loves to unrequited feelings. No Ashbrook to date has had the luck to prove that curse baseless superstition.
Yet that doesn’t stop you, the youngest Ashbrook, from trying to defy that fate. Clearly other Ashbrooks of the past just haven’t tried hard enough.
Having fallen in love for the first time, you’ve set yourself to the task of throwing aside a tradition of heartbreak and earning the affection of one Prof. Heron Renaude. With the help of your dearest attendant, and with the backdrop of the romantic Reedford Manor, your brother’s countryside home, surely you’ll prove yourself more powerful than fate.
...Won’t you?
Features:
A customizable protagonist; choose their name and gender
Three love interests; one f/m or m/m route, one f/f or m/m route, and a final exclusively m/m route
A historical romance with supernatural elements set in Edwardian era England, with multiple endings
i know this is supposed to be a fanart blog, but i'm still going to share WIP sketches of my ocs - these are my daughters, created for an upcoming visual novel / interactive fiction i'm developing for the Sapphic Monster Girl Fluff Jam '26!
i really need to start posting my art here again... seeing my old art is sending me off into the stratosphere (though most of my new stuff is WIPs and misc oc sketches lol)
my art advice is always to have more fun while doing it + make more of it + lean into anything you like. so much art advice only shames people into not doing art and it's sad... like yes you'll learn more from being serious and doing studies and leaving your comfort zone, but you'll learn nothing from not drawing at all, which is what people do when art is made into a chore. draw what you like and what makes you happy, and find a process where the act itself is fun and not just the result. it doesn't have to be painful and frustrating ! i command thee
