You expect the usual reaction. Zanka will glare at you, scoff, and click his tongue as he storms off.

Zanka grips your wrist tightly. Not enough to hurt you, never, but enough to make you stop. He pulls you closer, your noses nearly touching.
(Though… you wouldn’t mind being even closer.)
There’s already a flush on his face, but now it deepens, creeping down his neck and spreading as his jaw tightens.
His shoulders go tense, his grip firm around your wrist. Controlled, but just barely.
And when he speaks, his voice drops.
“Ya really don’t know when to stop, do you?”

For the first time in this little game you started… You freeze. Your eyes widen in surprise and your face grows hot.
This is very different from his usual reaction, it’s… intense.

Zanka narrows his eyes at you. “What’s with that face?” he asks. He sounds… almost smug, if not still irritated.
“N-Nothing. I just–”
“Just what?”
“I just keep thinking of how attractive you look like this.”

Zanka stares at you like his brain completely stopped working. His grip doesn’t loosen, but you can feel it falter for a second.
“…You’re— ” He cuts himself off, brows furrowing deeper, like he’s sure you’re just messing with him. “…You’re not serious.”
“Maybe I am.” You tilt your head sideways, the tip of your nose rubbing against his from how close the two of you are. “Or maybe I’m not.”
Zanka’s jaw tightens again, his grip firming as he pulls you even closer, so most of your face is pressed against his.
“...Yer impossible.”
His hands move to the back of your head, grasping onto you tightly as he finally presses his lips against yours. The pure force of it makes your teeth clash lightly, but…

This is the big reaction you wanted to trigger on Zanka.
Eventually, he pulls back, but he doesn’t let go. Your foreheads are touching as Zanka starts speaking again.
“...Yer impossible,” he repeats, “and yer unbelievable, and so irritating...”
You smirk back at him. “So I’ve been told.”
He exhales sharply through his nose. You can’t tell if it’s a laugh or if he’s annoyed. Or both. Probably both.
But he’s still holding you close. And you don’t pull away.
You both stay close for a while.
Then, you tilt your head sideways again, studying him like he’s a lab specimen.
“Hm.”
Zanka’s brows furrow. “What?”
“....Worth it.”
He sighs, but his face grows flushed quickly. “Don’t start.”
“What? I got what I wanted, can’t I enjoy it?”
His grip tightens again, not as firm as before, but enough to warn you.
“... Yer pushing it.”
“Yeah?” You grin. “What're you gonna do about it?”
He leans in again, but he doesn’t kiss you another time. Still, he gets close enough to make your breath hitch.
“Don’t test me.”

♡ ── The day starts off… surprisingly normal. You had expected something to feel different, like… Fu expressing any sentiment, positive or not, about the date.
♡ ── You’re not actually sure how he feels about it, exactly. He hadn’t really said anything when you asked him about it earlier
“It’s your birthday today, right?” You ask.
You know it’s his birthday, but you’re scared he might not react well, especially since you’re not extremely knowledgeable about his (clearly not pleasant) background, before and after he joined the Raiders in the past.
He pauses for a second, “...Yeah.” He answers meekly.
He sounds like his usual nervous self, if not a little more on edge. Like even he isn’t sure how he’s supposed to feel about it.
Your smile wavers slightly, unsure of how to follow that up. “Well… Happy birthday!”
He smiles back at you, though it’s a little wobbly. “I… I didn’t really think you would remember” he reveals.
“Whaaat?” you draw out the word teasingly “You should really raise your expectations of me!”
His eyes widen immediately, “N-No! I-I didn’t mean it like that! I just— I meant—”
“Wow, good job.” Hii mocks sarcastically inside his mind. “You’re great at fucking things up.”
“I’m just teasing you.” You lean closer, pressing a quick kiss to the crown of his head, his hair brushing against your face. “But seriously… I care about you, okay? Of course I’d remember.”
His cheeks flush pink as he nods slowly.
It’s… a little sad, seeing him this unsure over something so simple.
But you don’t really mind reminding him.
In fact, you think you could say it as many times as he needs to hear it.

Fu’s expression tightens slightly, “They’re all busy…” he mutters under his breath.
“Wow, you’re slow” Hii chastises.
“M-Master Hii!” Fu squeaks back.
(You vehemently ignore him talking to the doll… It’s not like you can hear Hii talking back anyway.)
Fu turns his head toward you, nervous eyes fixed on your face.
“Uh… A-Are you— Did you also notice that?”
You pause your reading to look back at him. “Notice what?”
“I-It’s like everyone’s at HQ today… And they seem so busy…” He hesitates “If they needed help, they’d ask me, right? T-They’d trust me with something, right?”
You jump to reassure him “Of course they would.” You lower your book “And it’s not like they asked me and ignored you.”
You gesture towards a nearby clock on the wall “Look, we’re gonna have dinner soon anyway. We’ll see everyone in the mess hall, and then we can ask what’s going on, okay?” You suggest.
He follows your gesture, looking at the time “... O-Okay” Fu agrees, though he’s still clearly a little uneasy.
(You cheer internally at your head at your amazing job of distracting Fu)
♡ ── The two of you make your way to the mess hall not long after.
♡ ── The walk there is quiet, not uncomfortable, but filled with curiosity as you both look around the halls, looking for any other cleaners around.
♡ ── (Though, only Fu is genuinely confused)
♡ ── You reassuringly squeeze his hand at his uncertainty.
♡ ── He squeezes back, his other hand gripping Hii’s body tightly.
♡ ── Hii sighs in frustration, but doesn’t complain to Fu any further.
♡ ── When you reach the door, both of you stop in front of it. You can’t hear any noise coming from inside, nor is there any light peeking out from behind the door.
“I-Is it empty?” Fu questions.
“Guess we’re early” You say, holding the door open so he’ll step inside first.
He walks forward and—
“—Surprise!!”
The room lights up at once, revealing the group of cleaners inside the birthday-decorated room. Team Akuta and Team Child, together with the supporters and Semiu are gathered around a table that, as planned by you, has a cake right in the middle.
Their voices overlap with each other as they cheer and congratulate Fu simultaneously.
Behind them, a small pile of gifts sits on a different table, waiting to be opened.
“...Huh?”
Fu’s grip on your hand tightens in surprise as he turns to look at you.
“I- D-Did you—” He gestures vaguely at the scene ahead “Did you… know about this?”
“Hmm… Did I?” You tease, putting your hands up in mock surrender. “I don’t know…”
Fu subtly slumps forward in relief. You step behind him, placing your hands on his shoulders and gently guiding him forward.

♡ ── Once you get out of bed and get ready for the day, you decide to go searching for him.
♡ ── Eventually, you manage to find him on the HQ’s training grounds (as mildly expected). Zanka’s not wearing his uniform, instead opting for more casual clothes, while still being appropriate for exercising.
♡ ── You decide not to bother him, instead choosing to sit on a nearby bench and watch him as he trains.
♡ ── However, you can’t help but notice how… unwell he looks, to say the least. Your boyfriend’s already fair complexion is unusually pale while, somehow, looking flushed at the same time, covered in a layer of sweat that seems excessive for the light exercise he’s doing.
♡ ── His usually graceful movements are noticeably clumsier as he trips and has to catch his breath frequently.
♡ ── You infer that he's probably been training for much longer than your previous guess. Even though it’s pretty early in the morning, you wouldn’t put it past Zanka to have already been on the training grounds for hours, even on his day off.
♡ ── Just as you’re about to suggest a break, Zanka suddenly freezes, his face twisting into a nauseous grimace.
♡ ── You wait expectantly for him to do or say something. Zanka then turns and runs off, stumbling into the building.
♡ ── He flees so carelessly he even drops Lovely Assistaff (!!)
♡ ── You carefully grab her off of the ground and follow Zanka’s trail.
♡ ── Eventually, you manage to find him.
♡ ── Or, well, find where he’s hidden. An individual bathroom, one that does nothing to dampen the sounds of Zanka vomiting inside.
♡ ── You patiently wait for the sounds of him heaving to stop and for the toilet to be flushed and, when they do, gently knock on the door.
“Zanka? Are you okay?”
“...” His silence is especially unsettling in this scenario.
“You, uh… dropped Lovely Assistaff when you ran, so I brought her over for you.”
Are you trying to use his beloved jinki as bait so he’ll open the door and talk to you? Yes, yes you are.
You don’t feel bad though, because you know she’s just as worried about Zanka as you are.
♡ ── There’s a pause on the other side of the door after you mention Lovely Assistaff. You can almost feel the internal conflict happening: Zanka’s pride fighting against his attachment to you and to Lovely Assistaff.
♡ ── Eventually, attachment wins.
♡ ── You hear the door lock click and gently push it open just enough to look at Zanka. And… wow. He look awful.
♡ ── He’s even paler now, his cheeks flushed and his face sweaty, making his bangs stick to his forehead as he leans his head against the closed toilet seat.
“...What?”
“Zanka…” you gesture vaguely at him, “you’re sick.”
His face tightens immediately, like a kid getting scolded.
“I’m not,” he grumbles.
You blink at him.
“You were literally just throwing up…?”
“...Just ate something bad, that’s all.”
Your expression turns into a frustrated frown as you kneel down next to him, your knees hitting the cold bathroom tiles.
“Do you think I’m stupid?”
Zanka’s eyes widen in surprise at your question, but you speak again before he can answer.
“Did you think I wouldn’t notice that you’re sick? You’ve been all over the place ever since I found you earlier.”
He clicks his tongue, “Yer making it sound worse than it is.”
Your frown deepens, though you’re definitely not mad, just worried about your boyfriend and his… self-destructive tendencies.
“I already know you’re sick, what’s the point of pretending you’re not?” you argue as you press the back of your hand against his flushed forehead, feeling how hot and clammy his skin is.
You hesitate for a second before sliding your hand down from his forehead to instead cup his reddened cheek gently, tilting his head so you can look him directly in the eye.
“Zanka. Let me help, please.”
You can see how he instinctively thinks to refuse, to push through. But you also see how tired and unwell he is.
He sighs, “...Fine.”
You immediately relax a little.
“But when ya catch whatever I’ve got, I ain’t helping, ya hear me?” Zanka teases, though there’s no real bite behind his words.
You let out a quiet huff, somewhere between amused and
exasperated.
“Loud and clear,” you answer.
♡ ── You then help him stand up and slowly guide Zanka to his room while he leans his tired body against you as you carry Lovely Assistaff in your other hand.
♡ ── Once you’re inside his room, you leave him to clean up and change in the bathroom while you make his bed. You gently tuck Lovely Assistaff under the covers, hoping being near his vital instrument might help Zanka recover, situating her on the side of the bed against the wall. Looking at her, you feel almost a sense of companionship in your worry and love for Zanka, feeling what you’re sure Lovely also has inside her wooden body.
♡ ── Once you’ve deemed his room appropriate for rest, you make a quick run to the kitchen, warming up some clear broth in a mug and grabbing a package of crackers for once Zanka’s stomach has settled.
♡ ── You swiftly return to Zanka’s room, finding him sitting on the side of the bed, now dressed in a warm pair of pajamas.
♡ ── You put down the food on his bedside table and drag a chair so you can sit near him.
♡ ── Once he’s settled into bed, you carefully hand him the hot broth, watching his reaction attentively since you don’t know how well his upset stomach will take it.
♡ ── Zanka slowly drinks the broth, one small sip at a time, handing you the empty mug once he’s finished.
♡ ── You help him lie down and smoothly tuck him in, ignoring his protests on how ‘you don’t need to do that’. He watches you the whole time, heavy eyes trying (and failing) to follow your every move. His shoulders relax a little.
♡ ── Your hand slowly reaches up and brushes the still-damp hair out of his face, leaning in and planting a soft peck on his heated forehead.
♡ ── Zanka slowly leans his head into the pillow, movements growing sluggish with sleep.
His half-lidded eyes flicker to you, “...Thanks.”
You smile softly at him, “Don’t thank me, just rest for now.”
He barely nods, the sleepiness seeping so deeply into his bones that he can barely move, before falling asleep, shoulders dropping in relaxation once he’s out.
