I think Louis really loves music and especially Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, SZA and Megan the stallion are his modern faves in my headcanon.

Good kid, mAad city
Louis is too much of a rich kid to really connect with the class critique of this album, he just can’t relate to that struggle.

Sing of me I’m dying of thirst <- let’s discuss this title. First of all Louis starving himself aka dying of thirst. Second sing of me, he wants to be remembered, and who sings of him? LESTAT
It really captures suicidal Louis still wanting to be remembered. His book being his suicide letter, so he left something behind. But also struggling with rage, revenge and violent tendencies. Also the last part makes me think of Louis reaction to Lestat’s “rebuttal” album so it’s funny
To Pimp a Butterfly
Oh this is the album that made Louis obsessed w Kendrick. It tackles exploitation, black man struggles in capitalism, institutional racism, and oh just everything.
Wesley’s theory <- this went platinum in the Dubai apartment. You make me live forever and looking down it’s quite a drop
It’s about making a deal and ending up getting fucked because it was NEVER gonna be a fair deal with the power differentials with the white men in charge. Very much his experience in NOLA and Lestat.
King kunta <- This. Song. Makes. Louis. Cry. To quote Louis “It was all rigged to burn.” Maitre Louis the same contradiction as King Kunta
How much a dollar cost <- Louis would write an essay about this and still never donate to charity. Louis really feeling like he sold his soul and his spot in heaven. Trying to right his wrong by writing the book (turning the page)
Complexion <- this song brings Louis back to the days when he had to preform as Lestat’s valet. “I’ll say something that critical for survival of mankind” him warning people about the great conversion core
The blacker the berry <- oh this… this takes louis back to the night of the race riot, when he met Claudia. His constant struggle to find freedom and agency in a racist society. How Lestat promised him freedom but only on HIS terms.

This is Louis in his interview era. Self reflection and self destruction.
Blood <- oh. This opening means so much to Louis. Blood, vampires, blood to a vampire with an eating disorder. Him wondering if he accepted Lestat’s offer of vampirism because he’s a sinner or because he’s weak. Louis always being compared to the blind princess…
DNA. <- considering what he got flowing in his veins, what he is as a vampire biologically
Pride <- oh.. this went on repeat. This is him self reflecting on himself and how he treated Claudia. His selfishness, his coldness, his distrust, how he couldn’t be the man in another suit, snatch the candy back, he will not chose the right path.
Duckworth <- this is the Danlou song for me. It’s about Fate and circumstance having a way of brining people together in strange ways. How sparing a life brought unexpected consequences. Louis saved Daniel, and Daniel came back to save Louis.
