Words of Love

Love comes in different forms and wears different faces.

The ancient Greeks had words to express that, and the captains of the Epic Writing Server have selected a few of them as prompts for the week leading up to Valentine's Day. May these prompts inspire you to create your own portrayals of that love - whether it's for the characters in Greek mythology or another fandom!

Edit: There has been a slight change of plans regarding the 7th point of the rules, that being that the repost would no longer have to happen on the day of the given prompt, so being late would no longer make any difference

frankly love that there is a niche literature side of tumblr where people are just writing full shakespeare essays for fun with cited sources, all lowercase sentences, sixteen exclamation points. tags are getting peer reviewed. takes are getting nuanced. best reading you’ve ever heard of the odyssey is suggested in a post by someone with an avengers profile pic with zero punctuation and ended with “screaming crying throwing up.” it’s like role playing academia in an online jungle gym

🚨HOMER ALERT 🚨 a copy of a section from The Iliad has been identified as the text in a papyrus placed on the abdomen of a mummified person, excavated last year, as part of the embalming ritual. Pride of place, not stuffed inside a cavity like previously found texts, and the first piece of Literature found on a mummy and in a funerary context.

Obsessed with this red-figure art because from left to right, the figures are identified as Talthybius and Clytemnestra (on the back of the vase) and Chrysothemis, Orestes, and Aegisthus (on the front). It's dated about 500 BC, almost a century before Sophocles's Electra, the only known play to give Chrysothemis a speaking role, was written. And I for one would kill to know what the story behind it is, because it is so different from the way things played out in Electra. In the play, Chrysothemis is portrayed as going along with Clytemnestra and Aegisthus, refusing to join Electra in plotting their deaths because she doesn't want to risk her own safety for vengeance. Contrast that with Chrysothemis literally standing in front of her brother, who is actively killing Aegisthus, while Clytemnestra charges at them with an axe. I felt like I’d be a fraud if I didn’t end the challenge with anything remotely ‘open legs’. So ended up with a PosePoli drawing based on an au I’m thinking of.

For the final day, Eros, I did ElPoliPeri, I imagine/head canon that them as a couple its nothing but romantic and passionate, gave them specials outfits just for valentine's day as well! so happy valentine’s day
