Jade’s Guide to Building Better Content Communities (related to tulpas and hypnosis)
Heya; I’m having to step away from the internet communities I’ve been recently associated with in order to protect my mental health and IRL standings. Tl;dr, I jumpstarted a hypnosis community (GearHeart), made some serious administrative missteps, and nurtured a malice that continues to burn through my work, relationships, and desire to be here. This is farewell, but I wanted to leave with the positive note of a final set of contributions to the culture here. I’ve made my work hidden to search results, but you can still access my blog through the url and find our YouTube videos are in our channel’s playlists.
Wishing all of you the best
…
It’s going to be interesting to look back on that time someone got kicked out of the tulpamancy community for starting a hypnosis cult.
a while back my best friend linked me to a thread on homemade My Little Pony transformation hypnosis tapes
that’s a really loaded sentence so let me ease into it
they were like, hour long recordings you were supposed to lay down and listen to and focus on nothing else, that started off with some relaxation techniques then eased into like, “feel your hands becoming hooves. remember pinkie pie’s happy memories. imagine yourself literally becoming pinkie pie. imagine your pink mane. you are literally pinkie pie”
all with the goal of putting you in a mental state where you were convinced you were this cartoon pony. and it was full of people like “wow! this was so relaxing. i felt like i literally Became rarity”
the problem is that human brains are kind of, buggy? so people, especially if they listened to the tapes too much, started like, accidentally going to this mental state they’d created at random inopportune times. the thread was suddenly full of people desperate to know how to stop it because they were turning into rainbow dash in the middle of driving on a highway to work, or whatever
anyway, i’m just burdened with that knowledge forever, now. i think about it a lot
Its incredibly weird to read posts like this and remember I literally own one of those pony hypno communities now.
The weirdest thing about the UK is that they don’t clap at the end of movie trailers. What the fuck.
not to mention the fact that they don’t pour their pepsis into their buckets of popcorn and eat the resulting mush, known as “pissy shitties” here in the good ol US of A
What the fuck is “pissy shitties”?
pissy shitties is when you mix pepsi and popcorn to create a rich and smooth treat, excellent for enjoying a movie with friends
Woah woah woah… slow down there. Canadian joining the party. American’s clap at the end of movie trailers? Like every trailer? Or do you mean just the movie? And is “pissy shitties” an actual thing? How does it not leak onto your pants? Oh and sorr-eh for interrupting!
Here in the USA, most theaters sell buckets meant specifically for pissy shitties, called piss buckets, which are usually around like $30 - $40. Some Americans like the feeling of leaky buckets on their jeans and consider it a part of the theater experience like post-credit brawls and sticky floors. I agree with the latter tbh.
The clapping is a normal show of respect and it occupies our hands so we don’t eat all our pissy shitties before the movie starts
As someone who lives in the USA I am seriously hoping you’re joking right now because this isn’t shit I’ve ever seen.

FUCKING HELL IT’S BACK FROM LAST YEAR
This literally gets reblogged every 15th of the month. It’s almost two years old. It’s beautiful.
listen up ya’ll this post is 6 years old now and you’re still reblogging it. every month. once a month, my notifications blow up for this one video, but only until the 16th. then the notes on this vid completely stop. it’s so eerily spot on and impressive how you just all collectively know what to do. if I’m not online, people irl still remind me that it’s the 15th. thank you for six surreal years of me wondering if I completely fucking lost it. here’s to the 15th
Skitty appreciation post

When you hit your elbow against something, but that specific point of your elbow
it’s…called your funny bone…
that gif tho
It’s not a bone actually- it’s a nerve that is exposed, specifically the ulnar nerve. The reason it feels so weird to hit it is that it’s not designed to deliver pain signals, so when you hit it it just wiggs out and sends Garbage signals to the brain, and the brain is just like “uh, dude- Ulnar, what the hell is this garbage?? You’re supposed to curl a finger and a half, and move some muscles in the forearm, why are you sending me this crap? How am I supposed to make this into sensory output?” And the Ulnar nerve is just like “dude dude dude, brain- what the hell is going on?!?” And the brain goes- “idiot. Fine. You’re on fire, freezing and being electrocuted. Happy?” And the Ulnar goes “holy crap brain!! I’m on fire, freezing and being electrocuted! What am I going to do!!??!” And the brain says “you’re an idiot ulnar. A damn idiot.”
I love seeing those posts where people are like “if you have headmates or whatever you should be on meds because that’s not okay” posts. Like neurotypicals just think that there’s some magical pill out there that will ‘cure’ anything they don’t consider ‘normal.’ Meanwhile, in the land of reality, my shrink thinks it’s pretty healthy that I’m finally getting to know my headmates, and has no intention of putting me on magic pills, because as long as I’m not hurting myself or anyone else, who cares what neurotypicals think is ‘normal?’ Actually, let’s be real: who cares what neurotypicals think at all?
It is not a magic pill, it is called “Therapy” and you can even do it in groups!
i… literally mention my therapist… right there… in the original post…
did you not actually read this… do you honestly believe telling someone who has already admitted to being in therapy… to go to therapy… is a “gotcha” moment???
Okay, so there’s a relevant quote from Slatestar Codex here. (The link is to the source; attribution is a Thing.)
Basically, this one obsessive compulsive woman would drive to work every morning and worry she had left the hair dryer on and it was going to burn down her house. So she’d drive back home to check that the hair dryer was off, then drive back to work, then worry that maybe she hadn’t really checked well enough, then drive back, and so on ten or twenty times a day.
It’s a pretty typical case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, but it was really interfering with her life. She worked some high-powered job – I think a lawyer – and she was constantly late to everything because of this driving back and forth, to the point where her career was in a downspin and she thought she would have to quit and go on disability. She wasn’t able to go out with friends, she wasn’t even able to go to restaurants because she would keep fretting she left the hair dryer on at home and have to rush back. She’d seen countless psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors, she’d done all sorts of therapy, she’d taken every medication in the book, and none of them had helped.
So she came to my hospital and was seen by a colleague of mine, who told her “Hey, have you thought about just bringing the hair dryer with you?”
And it worked.
She would be driving to work in the morning, and she’d start worrying she’d left the hair dryer on and it was going to burn down her house, and so she’d look at the seat next to her, and there would be the hair dryer, right there. And she only had the one hair dryer, which was now accounted for. So she would let out a sigh of relief and keep driving to work.
And approximately half the psychiatrists at my hospital thought this was absolutely scandalous, and This Is Not How One Treats Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and what if it got out to the broader psychiatric community that instead of giving all of these high-tech medications and sophisticated therapies we were just telling people to put their hair dryers on the front seat of their car?
I, on the other hand, thought it was the best fricking story I had ever heard and the guy deserved a medal. Here’s someone who was totally untreatable by the normal methods, with a debilitating condition, and a drop-dead simple intervention that nobody else had thought of gave her her life back.
It is not a therapist’s job to make you normal. It is a therapist’s job to give you your life back, on whatever terms are acceptable to you. And if your therapist can’t do that, you need to find a new therapist.
For some people, having headmates and/or alters is a debilitating condition. They’re losing large amounts of time, having trouble going to work and/or school, or hurting themselves or other people. In that case, they probably do need help, but I think most people who are getting fucked up by their headmates that badly are willing to seek out help on their own anyway.
Other people who have headmates and/or alters find it to be a neutral thing, or even a positive thing.
Have you ever been in a roommate situation where different people do different chores, because, (say) Kate loves to do the dishes, but can’t stand to vaccuum, and Toby’s the exact opposite? If Kate and Toby are headmates, they can wind up doing the same kind of thing. Headmates can also comfort you when you’re sad, remind you that your depressive or intrusive thoughts are not true, or help you deal with difficult people.
So, if you’re in that kind of situation, where your headmates are helping you to be more functional than you’d otherwise be? A good therapist is going to treat it like the hair dryer on the front seat of your car.
Sure, it is a Weird Thing. It makes you look a bit eccentric, and it’s not normal. But if having headmates keeps you from having repeated nervous breakdowns, helps you hold down your job, or makes it so that you can deal with your abusers? Then it’s a win, and a good therapist won’t try to ‘fix’ that.
It is not a therapist’s job to make you normal. It is a therapist’s job to give you your life back, on whatever terms are acceptable to you.
As an addition to this post, neurotypicals just assume that all medications work, and that everyone responds the same to medicine. It can sometimes take someone months to find a medication that works for them, and even then the side affects from medication can often times be worse than the benefits. For example, I took a medication for my anxiety that while it did help the physical symptoms of my anxiety, and occasionally lowered it, it made me so depressed I was close to killing myself.
And even if you do find a medication that might work, it can still take weeks for the medication to kick in.
Medication can help a lot of people, and for some people medication is the right option. But for some people it is not the right option, and it is not some magical “fix all” solution.
While I was working in the local hospital a few months back, part of the training included a dementia awareness course, and one of the stories I thought was very telling regarded a woman who had kept stealing towels from others in her residential home and leaving them to soak in her sink. After talking to her and her family, they found out she used to make a living doing laundry when she was much younger, so the residential home invested in one of those old washboard-and-bucket setups for her, and would leave some clothes by it in her room for her. The stealing stopped, and she became much more lively and talkative now that she had something to do that felt familiar to her.
With disabilities and mental illnesses, the reality of it is that many of them won’t go away, not with medicine or therapy or wishful thinking. Treatments are there to manage the conditions. And if the condition is being managed in a way that doesn’t cause harm to the person with that condition or their friends and family, then why should anyone look down on that management?
This just tells me what I’ve known all my life; neurotypicals don’t often care about mentally ill/cognitively disabled people living to their fullest, they just want them out of the way. Out of sight and out of mind. Sure, a person with headmates who deals with them healthily might be living to their fullest and without repression or discomfort, but then neurotypicals would have to suffer them. Stimming might help a dyspraxic or autistic person express themselves and soothe anxiety, but its annoying and embarassing! And we can’t have that can we?

The amount of Deviantart Cringe videos is amazing… There’s these grown adults making videos mocking and belittling children and teens for their art. News flash, not everyone is a good artist. True some of the art being made fun of is fetish stuff but you really have no right to make these videos.
Give people time to grow and improve, can’t imagine anything more damaging than telling some 13 year old that really likes FNaF their OC is a hot pile of garbage for 100k+ people to laugh at. ESPECIALLY when you put their usernames out there. I understand sharing a cringe pic with a few friends that you trust not to go harass the artist. I mean hell I’m sure my photos got passed around and laughed at when I was younger. But just don’t put a child/teen on display like that to be mocked.
Grow up.
Okay. Here’s the thing. Most of the artists I review on deviantSHART are either in their 20′s or 30′s, sometimes in the 40′s. Most of them have also been on dA for around 5-10 years. They’ve had ENOUGH time to improve their artwork, but many of them have not improved one bit.
This is due to one reason and one reason alone. They refuse to take criticism and they don’t understand what faults they have with their art. When someone offers some sort of criticism, they bitch and complain, telling them to “STOP BULLYING ME!!!1!” and then block them. Not only have I been reviewing these manchildren for a few years, one of them even had the balls to take one of my videos down JUST BECAUSE I OFFERED CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
I just feel weird when I see this stuff, so I feel like I should say something here. artists do not have to fit into your definition of good. They can draw anything they want and post it wherever they want, If the work is offensive or overly sexual the people hosting the site can deal with that.
everyone’s got different goals with their art, for some people, deviantART is the only outlet they have for their sexual interests. Don’t make fun of people for what kind of sex they like, Please realize that it’s not a choice they have.
Giving someone criticism without them asking you extremely rude, because deviantART is a social environment, it’s NOT art school, some people use it to learn but that’s not what it’s there for.
who cares if people are 30 and haven’t “improved” art is for fun. not everyone wants to be a studio professional. Art makes people happy in one of the healthiest ways possible. It helps people through depression, it doesn’t matter if it’s good as long as the artist enjoyed making it.
I had an artist I enjoyed because of the childlike innocent of their art. It was very, very, objectively bad. but I enjoyed it anyway. tacky took down all her stuff and left the internet a while ago because of a huge amount of drama caused by people who harassed her for how bad her art is, and dug into her personal life and put her on Encyclopedia Dramatica and shit. It always bothered me, because she was just 18 and enjoying doing what she liked. She started when she was 14 (I think) and she was self aware enough that she made a video once called “how to bne pahpuler on devient urt” and it had advice like “just put CAT SHIT everywhere” and stuff. People can like bad things, and people can make bad things, and if they’re having fun, then it’s not really bad, and it’s helping make the world more beautiful, and I miss watching her improve and stuff.
Screw cringe culture.
PLEASE DONT SCROLL PAST

Hey tumblr,
Above our pictured two good friends of mine @thejudge and @a-controlled-substance .
Yesterday (3/3/17) at 3am, they lost control of their car on icy roads and were hit by a semi. @a-controlled-substance is in the hospital with a skull fracture, and @thejudge didnt survive the crash.
This is a devastating loss for all of his family, friends, and fans, but most of all for his girlfriend.
Once she is out of the hospital, she is going to need lots of help piecing her life back together, and Im hoping we can get some support.
There are a few ways you can support.
One is to donate to their gofundme here https://www.gofundme.com/postwreck-recovery-fund-for-ashley
This gofundme will be used to help with medical expenses, housing, and other basic essentials so ashley can try to live her life as normally as possible after this.
Another is simply spreading the word.
Lastly if you all would be willing to play felix’s game “Home” and spread the word about the gofundme there, that would be great.
I know he was always a bit bummed that not many people played his game, and that the off fandom was dying, itd be great to see some support for it
Felix was a talented, kind individual who was taken away much too early. Words cannot express how horrible of a loss this is.

Reblog if you have an original story!
I’m not talking about fanfictions or AU’s based off of a video game/comic/TV series, I’m talking about a story with a world and characters that are YOURS and YOURS alone.
I love this so much. Cause our adblockers block the post that tells us what the confetti is for.
holy fuck youre right
Thanks, I was wondering.
