Episode Reviews: Finding Ember
Life is full of surprises, but some surprises can really catch you off guard - like the surprises you’ll find in Finding Ember.
After an emotional evening where she reveals to her parents that she got into NYU (against their wishes!), Ember - the main character in the story - secretly heads off to New York to fulfill her dream of being a nurse.
Ember has no idea what’s in store for her as she gets on the train. A frightening masked man threatens her life on the train and she’s forced to fend for her life and go on the run in a thrilling chase that leads her all the way to Ohio (with a broken ankle, of all things). There she runs into a mysterious boy named Mason who helps her get to the hospital.
Ember can’t be on the run from everyone for too long, though - since she’s only 17 years of age, her parents need to come to the hospital and sign off on her paperwork. Boy, are they furious when they find her there!
Something strange happens during Ember’s argument with her mother, though - her mom reveals that she knows the name of the attempted murderer, AND the fact that Ember’s adopted!
Why did Ember’s adopted parents withhold this information from her for so long? How does Ember’s mother know who was trying to kill Ember?
We’re loving this exciting story so far and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Check out Finding Ember today!
Episode Reviews: Gender Switching
Would you rather change gender every time you sneeze or not be able to tell the difference between a baby and a muffin? It’s one of the most popular hypothetical “would you rather” questions out there.
One Episode writer, Max, has taken this question to it’s logical conclusion and written a story, Gender Switching, about what would happen if you actually switched genders every time you sneezed. It’s a fun new take on the Freaky-Friday-style genre where ordinary people are put in extreme out-of-body situations.
Gender Switching revolves around Emilia, a typical teenage girl on Summer break. While visiting the beach with her friends, Blair and Ginger, Emilia is visited by her anti-godmother.
What’s an anti-godmother you may be asking? She works generally like a fairy godmother but instead of making you a princess for a night, she gives you a weird curse. In Emilia’s case she is cursed with switching genders each time she sneezes.
This immediately puts her into some sticky situations with her friends and her main crush, Hudston.
Gender Switching is a fun read with the right mix of humor, mystery and fantasy. We’re excited to see where the story goes next! Give it a read if you’re looking for a fun new take on the “swapped body” theme.
Episode Reviews: Dark Angels
Hey there Episodians! Welcome to the fifth installment of Episode Reviews, where we review the first five chapters of a story written by the Episode community.
This week, one of the stories we’ll be reviewing is Dark Angels by Ryan B.
Dark Angels follows the story of 6 friends in the town of Ravenswood, where supernatural happenings have taken over. Five of the friends head to a party and one of the girls, Celia, goes mysteriously missing.
The story goes back to Celia, who has been taken by a man named Jax, although not after making a cryptic statement about how no one will be able to see him!
After a round of questioning from Celia, we discover that Jax is a Fallen Angel, or an angel that has been cast down from heaven, and there are thousands upon thousands of them in this world. Little does Celia know, she herself is a Fallen Angel and she has powers untold.
Meanwhile, Celia’s friends are freaking out (she did go missing after all)! Scarlett finds a Wiccan fortune teller who can hopefully tell them more about why Celia is missing. The fortune teller, Dawn, sees a frightening vision - but the girls are reluctant to believe it can be true.
In a bold attempt to find out Celia’s true whereabouts, Courtney tells the tabloid news that the Fallen Angels have taken Celia, but now the girls are all in grave danger. Just when you thought there couldn’t be any more supernatural creatures in this story, we find out that Celia is headed over to the House of Vampires.
What will happen next? Will these girls make it out alive? Find out by checking out the rest of Dark Angels!
If you’re interested in the supernatural world of vampires, witches and more, you are going to love Dark Angels. It’s suspenseful and filled to the brim with excitement, drama and some pretty funny lines to boot.

Episode Reviews: Of Royal Blood
Welcome to the fourth installment of Episode Reviews, where we review the first five chapters of a story written by the Episode community!
This week, we’ll be reviewing Of Royal Blood by Chloe.
Of Royal Blood follows Maddy, a girl whose life is turned upside down after she discovers that not only is she gaining princess status, but a new stepmother and stepsister! Maddy’s father is marrying someone new, and his new wife is none other than Queen Maribelle.
Maddy never asked for this life - she's definitely not a girly-girl and she doesn't want to live the life of a princess, or deal with a new stepmother and stepsister, either.
As it turns out, her stepmother Queen Maribelle and her stepsister Princess Arabella are turning out to be the evil variety. Arabella is mean and condescending from the start, to not only Maddy but the household servants. Queen Maribelle won’t stop reminding Maddy how grateful she should feel to be a princess. On top of that, there’s so much to learn and remember a newfound princess!
On the bright side, we discover some potential love interests for the future - Darian, who’s a big part of the royal crowd, and Jake, a member of PEAS (also known as the Protective Action Evolution Society).
Who will Maddy choose? Will Queen Maribelle and Princess Arabella EVER lighten up? Read more episodes in Of Royal Blood to find out!

Episode Reviews: Sinking Slowly
Welcome to the third installment of Episode Reviews, where we review the first five chapters of a story written by the Episode community!
This week, we’ll be reviewing Sinking Slowly by Shannon.
We follow Summer, a beautiful girl with loving and supportive parents. The story starts out happily enough, but in a terrible turn of events, Summer’s parents are killed in a tragic car accident. Summer’s life is turned upside down and she is forced to deal with the aftermath of her parents’ death.
Years go by and Summer lives on, her life forever changed by the death of her parents. One day at school, a hooded gunman appears - and this gunman is none other than her supposedly dead father.
Summer discovers that her parents’ car accident was no accident at all, and her father had to fake his death all those years ago in order for her to remain safe. He only has one thought on his mind now - revenge on the gangsters who caused the death of Summer’s mother.
Suddenly, Summer’s life is turned upside down once more, as she is pulled into a plot of possible love and intrigue. Her father wants to make her mother’s killer pay, and knows only one way to do this: make Jacob, the gangster’s son, fall in love with Summer and destroy their lives as Summer’s family was once destroyed.
Will Summer fall in love with the boy she has vowed to destroy, or will she fall in love with him against her father’s wishes?
Sinking Slowly starts off strong and knocks readers off their feet from the get-go. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing more episodes from Shannon!

Episode Reviews: Luxury or Misery?
Welcome to the second installment of Episode Reviews, where we review the first five chapters of a story written by the Episode community.
This week, we'll be reviewing Luxury or Misery? by Karen.
Luxury or Misery? takes a very entertaining approach to the classic "be careful what you wish for" premise.
A young impoverished woman, Aria, is cleaning her room one day when she discovers an old book called The Fortress of Wishes. She soon finds out the book works like a genie lamp and anything she writes in it will come true within 24 hours.
The Fortress of Wishes, as with any wish-granting mechanism, comes with a few stipulations (If you use it for wickedness, it will turn to dust etc..) Did we mention it also comes with a reality-show-watching ghost companion, Bradley?
This discovery launches Aria into an adventure where she quickly learns that the valuable things in life aren't always what you think they are.
Luxury or Misery? takes a tried-and-true concept and puts a modern spin on it. Karen also does a great job of making the reader care about Aria and her family and root for them throughout the story. We recommend checking it out if you're looking for new stories!

Episode Reviews: Teen Life
Welcome to our new recurring column: Episode Reviews. Starting today, we’ll begin periodically posting short reviews of the first 5 episodes from stories written by YOU, the Episode community.
We’re kicking things off this week with Teen Life, by Rachel.
Teen Life is the story of Blair who, you guessed it, is a teen. With a life. The plot mainly focuses on Blair’s emerging relationship with Liam, a popular guy at school who she begins dating.
This brings a slew of problems for Blair. One such problem is Jenna, her rival who wants Liam for herself. Another of Blair’s problems is Kyle, her jealous ex-boyfriend.
What’s really intriguing about Blair is her home life. With an absentee father and a workaholic mother, Blair gets more parenting from her maid, Olga, than she does from either parent. This seems to be a driving force behind a lot of her actions.
Teen Life is a very fun read with a lot of love triangles and all the drama you’d expect from a story about teenage love.
Good: Offers a lot of reader interaction. The characters are very relatable. Bad: There’s some explanatory dialogue from the narrator that would be better coming directly from the characters in the story.
