Episode 2 of Hayfries and Horseapples is out now! This week, we talk about On Your Marks and address a few comments from YouTube.
Hey there, everypony! Our new podcast, Hayfries and Horseapples, premieres today! Check it out!
Update
Hey there, everypony! Dalken, here.
I know we've been radio silent for quite a while, and I want to apologize for that. We're not dead! We're still working on things, slowly but surely, and once our music team is done scoring Episode 5, we'll have that out to you for your listening pleasure.
I've got a couple of updates for you all today.
First is a heads-up on a casting change. As many of you know, we've had Eileen Montgomery (a.k.a. EileMonty) cast as Velvet Remedy since we started the project. You've heard her in the first episode as well as in the song "Already One Year," and we've loved having her on board. However, unfortunately, she no longer has time for the radio play due to other more important responsibilities as she pursues her professional career. With upcoming episodes featuring Velvet's voice heavily, the demands of the project on her recording schedule are just more than she can set aside. We're all sad to see Eileen go, but we're happy that she's making her way in the world and wish her all the best.
Taking over the role of Velvet Remedy will be our very own "MetalMary" Hamer. You've all already heard her in the radio play as a few raider voices and as the voice of the Stable 2 Overmare, as well as the main vocalist on our cover of "Hay Ms. Derpy" which featured in Episode 1. We know she'll do a fantastic job, and we hope you'll all love her performance as much as we do.
Secondly, I'd like to announce a new project under the EBC tag: Hayfries and Horseapples! It's a weekly talk podcast we'll be posting on our YouTube channel every Friday which will feature hosts from our production team discussing episodes of Friendship is Magic, goings-on in the MLP community, and we hope can act as a better way for us to interact with you all more directly. The first episode is slated to publish this Friday (yes, the 8th!), and we'll of course make another post when it's up so you all can easily see it.
That's all for now! Thank you all so much for sticking with us.
Stay awesome!
-Dalken Starbyne
We hope you’re ready for hour-plus long episodes
Starting with episode 5, we will have episodes that dwarf the length of our previous episodes. Currently, the episode is in assembly, and it’s rated at 1hr 10min - 1hr 20min. Those familiar with the story know that chapters get progressively longer, and they will continue to get longer. From the beginning, we intended to cap our episodes length from 1.5hrs to 2hrs, and split a chapter into multiple episodes if needed.
Just a heads up. No ETA on episode yet, but we’re hoping for another release this year.
What are your opinions on the amount of narrator used in the last 2 episodes?
We’ve received conflicting opinions on the amount of narrator throughout our 4-episode history. We adapted episodes 3 and 4 to use less narrator and more auditory clues per request from the first two episodes. We seek to create the best and most appealing radioplay for you, so your opinions would really help give us a sense of direction for future episodes.

But here you go.
Are you in need of any voice actors, or other positions besides music comp and art?
When we get ready to start casting for Episode 7, we’ll evaluate open roles and make the announcement. Currently, Episode 6 is in casting (ie getting lines in).
Just wondering, but will you be allowing Kkat, the original author of this story, a chance to voice a character or two?
I’m pretty sure that if /the/ Kkat wanted to participate in the radioplay, we’d have a hard time saying “no”.
Hello, I was wondering if you are bringing back the narration for ep 4 and onward. I feel that without him, there are awkward silences and scenes. Otherwise, i'm a huge fan of the series!
We originally had more narration in mind, but we received a fair amount of feedback from the first and second episodes that narration was too much. We can take a look at the issue per your request, however.
is it going to work this time? last time you guys had a little problem with episode 3 where it just stopped and began playing very loud music.
We added an intro and credits music to give us a little gap between when autoDJ cut off the song and when it cut off the radioplay. We’re evaluating if we need more time for lead-in and lead-out, but we do not have control over what happens after our MP3 plays.

Episode 4 is on the Horizon/Bronycon
Apologies for the lack of updates, but good news! Episode 4 is being packaged up for release. We need to finish up creating the Youtube/radio packages and coordinating with our partnering radio stations and EqD, but the episode audio has been completed.
Look for an announcement in a few days once we’ve finished everything up. Because it is a shorter chapter, it is around 20 minutes of audio, but Episode 5 will be much longer due to the content. This episode was originally going to line up with Bronycon for a release, but since we don’t have a panel, you get it sooner.
In regards to Bronycon, we were unable to get a panel this year at Bronycon, but a few of us will be there. There’s still plenty of Fallout Equestria to be had if you are attending! Overmare Studios will have a demo of their game setup in the vendor hall, and Stabletec Studios has a panel. Uncommented should have some Cyber Alicorn 3D-printed models available, and I know of a couple Littlepip plushies being sold by Kiashone.
Cheers!
New Crew Positions Available in the Art and Music Departments
HI all! Thanks again for joining us for Episode 3. Episode 4 is in the music composition stage (right before mastering and release). We currently do not have a scheduled release date, but we never really do until it is done.
One of the things that set us back is a lack of staff in a few departments that - traditionally - have been performed by only one or two skilled individuals. Two of these departments - Art and Music - could really use the right help to speed along episode creation, so we are opening ourselves up again to see if our loyal fans can help.
Music Composition
Warbalist is in need of a well-rounded composer who can accommodate different styles and genres of music. Time is of the essence with composition, and you will usually be assigned certain cues within the episode to create yourself.
Warbalist prefers experience in:
Orchestration
World Music (with an emphasis on ambient)
Spotting film and/or radio
Art
For Art, well, I’ll let Acesential speak for himself:
Hey there folks! I’m acesential, the art director for the EBC, and right now, I need art folks. The Fallout: Equestria radio play demands a lot of work from everyone on the team, from the voice actors to the musicians, from the writers to the head guys, and also from the artists. The art for each episode must both capture the attention of the watcher and reflect the events of the story. It is both an invitation to listen and a mood setter. While the radio play is primarily an auditory experience, the art helps the listener get into the right space for the best impact.
Plus it looks really swanky on top of the EqD posts.
I’ll be frank- I may be the guy who determines what the final art looks like, but I lack the skills to do it alone. I can’t produce everything, hence why I have my brother oPashoo as a background artist, JetWave as another character artist, and Lunilight as a graphic designer. With your help, we’ll be able to make the art of the Fallout: Equestria radio play even better!
