king-in-purpleâ:
Shinsou drifts in and out of consciousness for what feels like forever. Heâs in the hospital, he knows that much, on an IV, which is a thousand times preferable even in his half-conscious state to the tube that had been forced into his throat before. Heâs not sure how much of his drifting, half-awake state is due to the medicine and how much is due to his mind. Shinsou often dreams of being trapped back there with nothing to do except feel his body slowly eat itself. Heâs chewed his lip until it had to be bandaged.
Still, his eyes flutter open as he realizes he has a visitor. Shinsou wondered when Aizawa would come visit. The nurses had told him that he had been here before, bringing clothes and food. Although the clothes were way more appreciated than the food, he was still glad Aizawa was thinking of him at the time. Now he feels a sense of dread. Thereâs only one reason he could be here.
Shinsou sits up slowly and reaches over the side of the bed for a white board he had been gifted so he could more easily communicate. Thereâs a long pause as he writes in neat, small letters, âIf youâre here to tell me I canât be a hero, I already know.â His breathing has gotten faster and his throat hurts. Itâs one thing to rehearse this happening in his head, itâs another thing to actually do it. The loss of his shot at being a hero wasnât the only thing that hurt. The loss of his quirk to a UA student, or to a broader extent, someone living in hero society, was essentially a loss of identity. Who was he going to be now? He was a nobody, someone who needed to be protected. Somebody who should jump off the roof for a chance at a quirk in the next life.
He erases the writing and pauses before writing again. âI donât know what to do. I canât stay at UA, but I canât go anywhere else either.â Yet another acknowledgement of weakness. Staying in General Studies was too painful, yet it wasnât like he had family money, his parents had divorced before he could remember and his mom had a new family. Shinsou had put all his effort into becoming a hero, and had no idea what other sorts of careers he could even go into. All the standard suggestions for those without quirks who wanted to help were bust. Couldnât be a politician or a policeman because of his tongue, didnât have the money to be in school long enough to become a doctor. Shinsou wipes tears away from his face, trying to be as discreet as possible about it. He couldnât take his mentor seeing him as weak as well.
Aizawa is staring at the white walls of the hospital, but heâs quick to notice the flutters of Shinsouâs eyes. He makes no sudden movements, however. Heâll pretend like everything is calm and fine. It was better that way. Heâs got one leg over the other, and his hands are folded in his lap.
âHello.â He greets his student, an eyebrow raised in curiosity but conveniently hidden by his thick bangs. He watches as Shinsou writes on the white board and is slightly relieved but tense when he reads the writing.
He supposes that did make it slightly easier â but he notes that it obviously was not something that was so simple. He can tell by how tense Shinsou is, and his breath which quickens. He blinks a few times to help his own eyes. He watches Shinsou erase what he wrote, and rewrites â showing Aizawa itâs contents. Aizawa takes a deep inhale and leans back into the chair he is occupying. His silence goes on for a bit longer â he notices Shinsou wiping at his eyes but Aizawa canât bring himself to point it out. Heâs allowed to be distressed and sad, he could only barely imagine what itâd be like for Shinsou.
Thereâs an exhale as Aizawa looks away from Shinsou and ahead of him. âNot necessarily.â He starts, pursing his lip. âThereâs still some other options. But, itâll take a lot of work. Youâre lucky we live in a later generation. Prosthetic tongue replacements are an option.â Aizawa shrugs. âYouâll need to work harder than you already have been, but not all hope is lost.â He played this discussion out in his head a few times before. He felt confident, and ready to serve as a guide â he wasnât quite ready to give up on Shinsou just yet.
âOf course, if you would rather opt out of being a hero, thereâs some other ideas we can discuss as well. Present Mic has also came to expressing interest in helping you learn sign language to help you communicate better in your current state â but you might be better off trying to talk to him about that rather than me.â
sodoffyabuggersâ:
[It wasnât that it wasnât interesting, itâs just that Worthâs heard the story a million times before. People usually gimped into his clinic after some kind of fight, with or without a supernatural being with extra special powers, and heâd kind of heard it all at this point as far as revenge fantasies went.
He eyed the yen, shrugged, and pocketed it.]
Thanks. Ya really ainât from âround âere, are ya? Jusâ a second.
[He comes back a moment later after a lot of rummaging sounds and cussing under his breath in the bathroom with some saline eye drops. It looked old as hell and unused, but okay.]
Never had someone complain of fuckinâ dry eye in âere. Donât tell me ya shoot lasers out of âem âer somethinâ. Heh.
[Aizawa takes the eye drops, staring at them with a critical look. He shakes the bottle. Heâd complain, but itâs not as if he has any other option at the moment. Itâs a swift movement, he looks up and his eyes stay open. There is not even a twitch as he drips the solution onto his eyes. Heâs done this a lot.
Much better.
His hand extends, offering the bottle back to the doctor.]
No, I donât shoot lasers out of my eyes. If that really was the case, Iâm sure my life would have been easier.
[Thereâs a snort. He doesnât really go into too much details about his quirk. He really wasnât the type to care to hand out that sort of information. He prefers his life relatively private.]
heroxfm replied to your post ââ i donât give off that vibe. ââ
"I thought I was more of a 'Cockatoo rocks out to Elvis' sort of guy."
âIf only you actually rocked out to Elvis, I might sleep better at night.â
He thinks for a moment.
âNo, itâd be just as bad. Never mind.â
@king-in-purple
Itâs pretty much the next few days that he ends up visiting the hospital, ever since he had rescued Shinsou from that warehouse. He wasnât the only person that Aizawa had rescued - but he was the only one of the few that he personally knew. Heâs steeled himself the past couple of days, a few face to face conversations with Hizashi regarding the situation had assisted him in calming him down and simply reaffirming everything that he will have to do.
Aizawa was completely aware of the implications of Shinsou losing his tongue - heavily affecting Shinsouâs capability to communicate vocally and thus using his quirk. Heâs thought a lot through these past few days about Shinsouâs desire to become a hero, and how logically speaking that all circumstances considering without Shinsouâs quirk, the possibility of Shinsou becoming a hero dropped dramatically.
In fact, Aizawa had even considering steeling himself by simply telling the boy that ever being a hero was out of the question - feeling it cruel to just let a child dream on about becoming something that they could not be, or even worse: lose their life in the process. However, he couldnât help the bitter and pained feeling heâd get when heâd imagine almost never being able to use his eyes again after USJ.
Aizawa enters the hospital room, staring at an unconscious body of the boy he rescued only a few days ago. He sees gifts, and a few cards. He wonders who else dropped by, but decides not to pry. He doesnât have a gift this time, but he left one the first day he came by - food mostly: practical things. He takes a seat at one of the chairs near the hospital bed, and quietly waits.Â
â i donât give off that vibe. â
âHalf of your personality can be summed up from a thirty second video of a cockatoo screaming into a cup, and youâre still actually bold enough to tell me that.â
