Mentioned to my mom I'm asexual a couple months ago and today.... we got into the car and she hit me with, "So you use they/them pronouns now?"
I went, "What. no. she/her."
"How does that work? With she/her/hers and they/them?"
I stared at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Well you came out as-" and I said, "I'm asexual."
She replied, "Like an amoeba, I know."
"Oh. My god. No. Mom. It doesn't- it's not the asexual you learned about in biology. I didn't come out as a single celled organism."
With heavy relief, she said "Oh, it has a different meaning?"
"Yes, mom."
I think they're right. If a woman asked me this, I'd think about it for a minute, and then I'd want to know if she meant what these three jobs were really like (I'm assuming she means taking on one of these roles in the past, since while there are still cowboys and pirates, samurai haven't really existed since the Meiji Restoration), or how they're imagined in pop-culture. If it's the actual, real job, I'm gonna say cowboy, because the other two are different kinds of assholes who kill people, whereas cowboy is, mostly, just fucking hard work. If it's the pop-culture versions, I'm gonna say pirate, because they generally enjoy themselves more than the other two, particularly since samurai spend all their time doing as they're told, fighting nobly etc. and being a cowboy is still a lot of fucking hard work.
And from this, the lady would easily be able to tell that my true personality is that of a pedantic nerd.
i did not have “born in the wrong body” childhood transgender angst i had “blissfully unaware of the concept of gender until the world lucifer’d me and made me bite that fucking awareness apple and then suddenly everything was Wrong” angst

this video has been all that i think about for days now
you are genuinely a horrible person. please, do better.
you can tell that the person anonymously harassing a trans woman really has the moral high ground on whatever this is about
i have it on good authority that i got this hatemail because i vagueposted about somebody who tried to pressure me into sex when i was facing financial & housing insecurity 👍👍👍👍
It won’t let me reblog EVERYONE LOOK
I get asked a lot for tips with coloring black people, so i put together a little tutorial! (and bumps my kofi if you found this helpful)
we really dont think enough about how competitions are just enshrined and widely accepted ableism
the rules of any kind of competition exist to serve the ableds, every single time. For example minecraft speedrunning has allowed the use of an external tool for finding strongholds (because it serves the abled playerbase). Despite being a part of the game, you also can't use peaceful mode.
Super mario speedrunning allows keyboards, because it was decided that it did not create an "unfair advantage". It does not allow any other controller (as far as i know). The rule around controllers is shaped around abled players because they make the rules.
These are of course examples, but I think it illustrates that point, that it never is about the game itself, but about ability. This is true of all competitions, they are all effectively barring disabled players. If you, as a disabled player, find a way to accomodate your disability too much, the ruling body will change the rules to stop you from competing.
A competition is by nature a test of ability. The people who make the rules are the ableds, and they have an interest in making sure that nothing is made easier for disabled players.
Competitions are built to be ableist because ableism is enshrined in society. If someone shows up in a wheelchair at a contest and they're too good they'll find a way to justify banning wheelchairs. The rules on what are allowed are defined by what makes the abled players comfortable.
Because competitions exist to display being abled as an ideal. The prestige and importance tied to being The best at something. Competitions exist because we want (as a society) to be abled. The credit of a competition then also relies on this ableism. Accommodations directly destroy the perceived importance of competitions, because if a disabled player is accommodated (if their experience is made easier), the Struggle of Competition is shown to be a sham and invalidated (ha). If you show up with an accessibility controller at a competition and win, you're a cheater. If you show up Abled, you're just Better.
With that said, there's a difference between a performance and a competition, between being good and The Best. Only one of them, I think, exist solely as a product of ableism. In fact, I think it is possible to have displays of performance in non ableist ways even today.
While watching a DVD from the library my TV popped up a message saying to press a button if I wanted to watch this from additional providers.
It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.
One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.
Fucking hell! Remember when every fucking device in your life wasn't a spy implanted in your home and working against your interests to try and sell your data? Remember how nice that was??
Remember when the TV was just a tool that would play the things you plugged into it?
Why must the future suck SO much?
TVs collect a huge amount of data. Here's how to use privacy settings to limit the surveillance on TVs from LG, Samsung, TCL, and every othe
A good rundown on what each brand of TV is up to and which settings you should turn off.
PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.
You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.
Please watch the Gamers Nexus video on LG Smart TV's and monitors! It's basically malware at this point.
