Just keep doing art. Even if it becomes just a hobby. Even if it doesn’t pay the bills. Even if all the little things in life get in the way, never stop. I had an aunt whose dream of being a professional artist died after college, and she stopped drawing. Years and years later, I was born. I am an artist, and it’s something we bonded on, but when she tried to teach me all she’d learned, it was gone. I think she was as sad that day as the day she gave up on her art.

The only reason you should give up on your art is if it makes you unhappy or you physically cannot do it anymore. But if art is important to you, or ever has been, cling to it. If nothing else, if everything in the world is stripped away, you’ll still have that, and that’s something worth not losing.

Your worth as an artist is not determined by the number of Tumblr notes you get. Followers are NOT a currency. Don’t worry about instant gratification, because you’re creating something only you can own for the rest of your life! It will take you longer to build up an audience around something that doesn’t have a pre-loaded fanbase. In fact it’ll probably take longer than you think, but you’ll have a much more satisfying artistic career.

shout-out to the 11 and 12 year olds who are just starting out and are brave enough to post their art

shout-out to the artists who have been practicing their whole lives and still aren’t “good”

shout-out to the artists who post a piece they are proud of only to have it get 5 or 6 notes

shout-out to the artists who don’t dedicate their lives to art/draw for the fun of it

shout-out to the artists who don’t get support from friends or family because they aren’t talented enough

shout-out to the artists who feel excluded from the fandom because they can’t draw as well as other fanartists

shout-out to the artists who taught themselves how to draw and/or can’t afford professional lessons

shout-out to the artists who can only draw one thing and draw it over and over

you work hard on your art and i think that’s beautiful. you can do it, please don’t quit because people don’t appreciate your hard work.

Honestly thinking of starting on short comic, but Im extremely indecisive. Cant decide between which short story arc to start on first. Should I start a poll and gauge interest or cover my eyes and point? I have no idea how to do good poll.
